It was the perfect location with beautiful views in every direction. It was the perfect place to end our last 2 days in Switzerland. Staff was very friendly and personable. The morning we left, we needed to leave before the regular breakfast time, but the chef got up early to prepare a very nice breakfast. The room was large, well decorated, had a huge bathroom, and our own personal balcony! Avoid any hotel in or near the centre: the church bells ring...
Avoid any hotel in or near the centre: the church bells ring loudly every 15 minutes right through the night, so it's impossible to sleep well! The shops really cater for tourists, so although there are interesting products it's extremely pricey. The best is the hiking around Appenzell - lovely scenery.

The architecture and painted facades of the buildings were unique,we saw a lot of Switzerland and this was different and lovely. Uncrowded, good restaurants, wonderful folk museum in an ancient building. The train ride from Zurich was beautiful.

Colorful painted buildings of Appenzell, right outside, and efficient train station minutes away by foot. Wonderful visit to nearby Ebenalp: could not have been easier to get there on the train. Took the cable car up, and hiked down past the cave, stopping at scenic cliffside hut for coffee, and hiked down a steep slope to a beautiful lake. (There may be an easier route down.) Then walked down to Wasserauren, the original train stop.

Everything felt welcoming, starting with the staff and the wonderful location. The restaurant is more than excellent. Breakfast was plentiful and cooked to order and perfection. Since we stayed for 3 or more nights, we received the Appenzell card which included not only many discounts, but free cable car/gondola rides. It was the best bargain in our 7 weeks in Switzerland. We loved this hotel and highly recommend it and the area to others.

The apartment is perfect for a short or long stay in appenzell. The bathroom was a little small, and some of the decor is quite dated, but for us, it was absolutely perfect for what we needed, and great value for money! We would definitely stay here again!
