It was the perfect location with beautiful views in every direction. It was the perfect place to end our last 2 days in Switzerland. Staff was very friendly and personable. The morning we left, we needed to leave before the regular breakfast time, but the chef got up early to prepare a very nice breakfast. The room was large, well decorated, had a huge bathroom, and our own personal balcony! Would highly recomend this place as by far, the best of the 9 places we stayed during our two weeks in Switzerland!!

No problems but the wastes - having the dog I did not know what to do with „it” and nobody could tell me
Generally there are no waste bins☹️

Pleasant place to visit and probably also to live in. Nice historical town center, wonderful views on surrounding mountains. I did not have time to make hiking trip unfortunately. Plenty of restaurants, we choose the restaurant of Hotel Santis and were satisfied.

Avoid any hotel in or near the centre: the church bells ring loudly every 15 minutes right through the night, so it's impossible to sleep well!
The shops really cater for tourists, so although there are interesting products it's extremely pricey.
The best is the hiking around Appenzell - lovely scenery.

Beautiful, well preserved, tiny village with plenty of handicraft shops and superb pastry typical for the region. Hospitality is great and it is all so spotless clean. Only disadvantage; Switzerland is far too expensive!

The architecture and painted facades of the buildings were unique,we saw a lot of Switzerland and this was different and lovely. Uncrowded, good restaurants, wonderful folk museum in an ancient building. The train ride from Zurich was beautiful.
The hotel staff were friendly and the service was truly excellent. We were provided with great recommendations for walks and hikes. We asked for an early breakfast on the morning of our departure and the team went out of their way to accommodate this. The hotel is located near public transport and is great for accessing hiking routes in the region. Appenzell is a relatively small town and can be explored by foot from the hotel. We also enjoyed the relaxing Spa which is a few minutes walk from the hotel.
A cost-effective wonderful authentic Appenzeller apartment that felt welcoming and warm as if the owner-family opened their arms to us. Warm welcome on arrival with our two vehicles very well catered for, too. Accepting of our small old dogs. Apartment had everything needed for a great stay in the region; in fact, we were only there one night and didn't get to use the place like the second home it is intended as! Very close to the charming centre of town, which is always worth a meander.
I recommend you to choose this hostel for your stays in Appenzell area, which has a real feeling to live here as in a hotel (even more).
- near to the downtown and 3-5 min by feet to take a dinner.
- 20m away is a bread house which can easily take a breakfest and coffee and tee in hostel is free too.
- fresh, clean and modern decoration in rooms and WCs and Bads.
- parking is also fine and prepared for drivers.
This is a lovely Pension, and by far the best that we stayed in during our 3 week tour of Switzerland, Germany, and Austria. The bedding was of high quality, the facility was clean and updated, and you cannot beat the close location to downtown Appenzell.
The owner makes sure that you are very happy with your stay, and this was one of the cleanest hotels I have ever stayed in!
Lovely bnb in Appenzell. Only 5 min walk to the train station and 8 min into town centre. Claudia was friendly and provided a lovely breakfast and some general information on restaurants etc. The Appenzell card provided by Claudia was excellent for free travel on the local trains and cable cars. I would recommend Claudia's bnb to a friend.
The location of the hotel was great. Close proximity to the all hiking trails. The food at the restaurant was excellent and staffs were friendly and attentive. We loved the eggs menu on breakfast but found the sweet options limited. There is a sauna in the hotel too but no parking. You would need to pay for CHF8 per day parking nearby.
It was very convenient just outside the hubbub of town, quite, clan and comforting with access to the breakfast area beverages honor system. Smart design and thoughtful accommodations. Owners are first rate hosts and genuinely friendly, happy people of Appenzell. Good memories.
We love the breakfast and staff in the restaurant- th location of the hotel on the main square is ideal. This was our second time visiting and staying with the Hotel Appenzell. The downside is that it can stay noisy a bit later but the hotel is so quaint and authentic.
Lovely traditional Appenzell apartment with lots of facilities in a short distance from train station. The hosts were very friendly and generous. It was one of the best apartment we ever stayed in.
Great staff !!
delicious breakfast
excellent food in the restaurant
We have been to the restaurant many times, but never to the hotel.
We will be back for sure.
What a nice little place with good food in the restaurant downstairs. We arrived just in time for the bringing down of the cows from the highland. So cool.
It was a traditional "old-school" room. Simple, no nonsense. The chef owner of the hotel made us feel very special. He even served breakfast personally.
