They are moving the city so the old city looks like a ghost town. There is almost nothing to do and you don't see people on the street. Lots of accumulated snow and many fenced areas. The new city is not well established. It looks like a construction site and has few restaurant options. I didn't find any souvenir shops open to buy gifts. The center closes at 3pm and there is nothing to do in the city. I recommend taking trips outside the city, such as sledding, snowmobiling, and not wasting time in the city center until the move is completely completed.

A super cute small town in the middle of the Swedish arctic.
A super cute small town in the middle of the Swedish arctic. Make sure to book your tours in advance as there is not too much to do in Kiruna itself. Walking through the city and the surrounding nature is absolutely gorgeous in winter. Take care that the Buses needed to go to different places are very unreliable and don't run on weekends or holidays (especially the ones going to ICE hotel and jukkasväri). Not many restaurant options and many were closed when I was there (Christmas time) or closed early.

I wouldn't spend more than 4 days in Kiruna, and make sure you book lightsofvikings.com for northern lights hunting, they do everything professionally, you wouldn't regret it. We saw aurora borealis. And dog sledding. Ice hotel is a must visit! really like how they do it, and about 10-15 minutes walk you can see reindeer farm! And we don't like the old city, because they move the city to the new city, giving us the impression like in the walking dead movie, no one there, so quiet and no life, especially in winter.

We enjoyed all the activities we had in the beautiful landscapes of Kiruna, from dogsledding, to northern lights hunt, to snowmobile, to visiting a Saami village and reindeers. We highly recommend this place, preferably staying outside of the center that feels closer to nature.

Kiruna is a nice city, quite, clean, the land is beutifull.
Kiruna is a nice city, quite, clean, the land is beutifull. The visitor center in the mine has to be visited and Abysko National Park. In winter snowmobile has to be tried. Their is nice panaroma about the city from a mountine where seat lift or car takes on.

That was a real winter vacation with a lot of snow and cold.
That was a real winter vacation with a lot of snow and cold. I can’t say that I would want to live there permanently but just for a visit it was a great experience. We had a lot of fun with activities like Husky-tour, Northern-light tour, visiting Ice-hotel…
This hotel was a nice cozy surprise in an industrial town. The pub provided excellent fish and chips! Not the thing you look for in Lapland, but we enjoyed it nonetheless. The rooms were on a second floor and the ground floor contained a mini mall. There was a wonderful coffee shop and some seating so we could get out of the rain. The breakfast was excellent. The hotel provided free parking in a busy town center. Enjoy this one while you can before the buildings in the center of Kiruna are all demolished or moved!
The room was clean and comfortable. Location of the hotel is perfect and in walking distance of the midnight sun trail and the city center itself. Note that the city is moving so the location of the hotel will probably change in the future.
Staff were friendly but not very social. However, I found this to be common for this region in Sweden. People just keep to themselves.
Breakfast was basic but has everything you need.
Ambiance of the pub downstairs was very nice and cosy.
Despite some reviews at Google Maps about the poor showers, the shower was just fine.
We had a comfortable stay at Samegard.
Worth mentioning was the staff at Samegard. At some point i needed some extra service during my stay in Kiruna and Samegard provided it, even though i was not staying at their hotel anymore. They had to put a lot of trust in me (just another tourist) and they did so without hesitation.
That is just really special.
The hotel is just beside Kiruna busstation which has free transfer buses from train station and airport. In a walkable distance of 1km radius you can fine stores and restaurants too. The hotel also has a buffet breakfast with wide range of options which is worth the money.
The hotel also has a shared kitchen which is clean and maintained well. They also have a sauna which is included in your rent.
Good option within a reasonable budget.
Could see the Northern lights with bare eyes without going to Abisko or taking a costly trip.
All the staff members are really helpful.
The husky sledge was also good value for money!!
The experience of meeting a lot of people from different countries in the common kitchen was great. Gave a hostel-like vibe.
the breakfast in this hotel was superb. The personal was friendly and helpful. Check-in was super quick and the rooms were clean and comfortable. On the top floor is a Sky-Bar with excellent views over the city and the distant mountains. Wish that all hotels were like the Scandic in Kiruna.
Got a reasonable price for the Saturday stay. Within walking distance of the train station, as well as key bus stops in Kiruna. Access to private washroom, TV and shared kitchen facilities. Wide open space in the room, which is unusual during our trip to Abisko where rooms are cramped.
We had a wonderful experience in Kiruna and a huge thank you to our wonderful hosts for being so accommodating and so hospitable. We definitely recommend this lovely apartment for its accessibility...from. dog sledding to the Ice Hotel, to the mine to shopping!
You have your own toilet and shower. Best stay i had in 3rd building because of super cool chill zone on 2nd floor - it was awesome with pool table, darts and other games and TV! Kitchen is big and clean - easy to use ect!
Free parking around buildings was good.
Camp hotel located in Kiruna offering individual cabins. Comfortable beds and cozy cabins. Generous breakfast buffet. Incredible spa time. Staff was very warm and helpful. Excellent communication with the reception through the Booking app.
The hotel is amazing, the cabins are spacious and comfortable to rest after a long day in the snow.
Breakfast was great with plenty of options plus vegan and gluten free options as well.
The spa was perfect.
New hotel following the move of the city centre. The area is not finished yet, so it is a bit a ghost town for the moment. Parking available close to the hotel for free. Nice interior design.
Our first 3 nights in Kiruna were at Northern Light Camp. The large windows in the facility were great! It was cozy and clean. Northern lights were great!
