They are moving the city so the old city looks like a ghost...

They are moving the city so the old city looks like a ghost town. There is almost nothing to do and you don't see people on the street. Lots of accumulated snow and many fenced areas. The new city is not well established. It looks like a construction site and has few restaurant options. I didn't find any souvenir shops open to buy gifts. The center closes at 3pm and there is nothing to do in the city. I recommend taking trips outside the city, such as sledding, snowmobiling, and not wasting time in the city center until the move is completely completed.

A super cute small town in the middle of the Swedish arctic.

A super cute small town in the middle of the Swedish arctic. Make sure to book your tours in advance as there is not too much to do in Kiruna itself. Walking through the city and the surrounding nature is absolutely gorgeous in winter. Take care that the Buses needed to go to different places are very unreliable and don't run on weekends or holidays (especially the ones going to ICE hotel and jukkasväri). Not many restaurant options and many were closed when I was there (Christmas time) or closed early.

I wouldn't spend more than 4 days in Kiruna, and make sure you book lightsofvikings.com for northern lights hunting, they do everything professionally, you wouldn't regret it. We saw aurora borealis. And dog sledding. Ice hotel is a must visit! really like how they do it, and about 10-15 minutes walk you can see reindeer farm! And we don't like the old city, because they move the city to the new city, giving us the impression like in the walking dead movie, no one there, so quiet and no life, especially in winter.

We enjoyed all the activities we had in the beautiful landscapes of Kiruna, from dogsledding, to northern lights hunt, to snowmobile, to visiting a Saami village and reindeers. We highly recommend this place, preferably staying outside of the center that feels closer to nature.

Kiruna is a nice city, quite, clean, the land is beutifull.

Kiruna is a nice city, quite, clean, the land is beutifull. The visitor center in the mine has to be visited and Abysko National Park. In winter snowmobile has to be tried. Their is nice panaroma about the city from a mountine where seat lift or car takes on.

That was a real winter vacation with a lot of snow and cold. I can’t say that I would want to live there permanently but just for a visit it was a great experience. We had a lot of fun with activities like Husky-tour, Northern-light tour, visiting Ice-hotel…

Aurora River Camp is in a very nice position, in 20 min walking it is possible to reach the Ice Hotel and the Siida Sami museums. The supermarket is also located in between these two. We spent one night in a glass igloo, very cozy. It was an amazing experience. The use of sauna was also included, absolutely recommended! The lounge was clean and cozy, with three bathrooms where was possible to take a shower (which for obvious reasons of space is not present in the igloo!). Breakfast was good.

The room was clean and comfortable. Location of the hotel is perfect and in walking distance of the midnight sun trail and the city center itself. Note that the city is moving so the location of the hotel will probably change in the future. Staff were friendly but not very social. However, I found this to be common for this region in Sweden. People just keep to themselves. Breakfast was basic but has everything you need. Ambiance of the pub downstairs was very nice and cosy.

The best spot to see Auroras. No need to hunt them. On our 1 night stay we witnessed the night sky turned into vast array of Northern Lights! The cabin is clean, there’s a floating sauna, and they offer winter activities. Lizel, the receptionist was also friendly and accommodating. She made extra mile to give us tips where to take photos and videos for the Auroras. She also taught us how to use the Aurora app. We highly recommend this place in Kiruna.

The property exceeded my expectations! Superb restaurant - dinner was sensational and the breakfast was nice also. Their spa is also nice but you need to book it in advance and pay extra, but it is worth it! It was our last day in the North, in Kiruna, and that night we saw a full sky aurora right from the hotel, it was stunning! I recommend Camp Ripan 100%, really really nice!!!

Camp Ripan is a true resort- You can do many activities including ice climbing right on site, and the food is spectacular. We took advantage of the gym, padel court, kicksleds, sleds and snowshoes while we were there. The cabins were perfect- a bunk room for kids and comfy bed for adults. The kitchenette was stocked with sufficient pans to make a stay in dinner one night.

Good option within a reasonable budget. Could see the Northern lights with bare eyes without going to Abisko or taking a costly trip. All the staff members are really helpful. The husky sledge was also good value for money!! The experience of meeting a lot of people from different countries in the common kitchen was great. Gave a hostel-like vibe.

My train was cancelled because of severe cold and I could not reach the hotel in time. The hotel management very kindly refunded me all the price of the reservation, even if they had no obligation to do so. I highly appreciate this gesture and will reserve again in this hotel for my next trip to Kiruna.

the breakfast in this hotel was superb. The personal was friendly and helpful. Check-in was super quick and the rooms were clean and comfortable. On the top floor is a Sky-Bar with excellent views over the city and the distant mountains. Wish that all hotels were like the Scandic in Kiruna.

Our stay at the Auroral River Camp igloo hotel in Sweden during the holidays was truly enchanting. The property’s unique blend of a cozy interior and the magical icy surroundings created unforgettable moments. Special thanks to Océane, Nikos and Tom for their exceptional hospitality.

You can tell it is a new hotel. Nothing's worn, everything still sparkling, facilities are great, staff very friendly, and the location in Kiruna's new city center is perfect. Breakfast was great, and so was WiFi. Gym and cocktail lounge included.

We went to this hotel for the location outside of Kiruna, and the location is perfect for doing short hikes outside and getting away from most of the light polution. The beds were comfortable and the lounge area very cosy.
