Ulaanbaatar is a great location (and one of the only options) to base your Mongolia starting point out of. Having a few nights in the city is all you need, but when traveling to Mongolia, your goal should be to get into the country and tour what makes Mongolia and it's nomadic culture and open landscape so unique. For example, in a 10 day trip to Mongolia, I would only spend 3 days in Ulaanbaatar and the rest with a guide out in the countryside.

It was noisy and very busy with traffic.
It was noisy and very busy with traffic. Footpaths are a walking hazard. Very few people spoke English and weren't very helpful.
I found a delightful vegan cafe that had modified traditional Mongolian food so I ate there a couple of times. The Gandan Monastery precinct was interesting.

Ulaanbaatar s a great base for exploring Mongolia.
Ulaanbaatar s a great base for exploring Mongolia. It’s a modern capital but with the added extra that it’s the centre of a nomadic country. The 1930s purge means that there is not a lot of old culture. So if you like temples and castles, go somewhere else. Sukkbataar Square is great to wander around in teh evenings. Families and young people having fun and socialising. The Chinggis Khan museum is excellent.

A city in progress day by day with mixture of old building and modern buildings in harmonization to let you feel both history and development at once time. There are paintings on wall of building on street reflecting either traditional culture, modern art pr commercial advertisement, but all very nice. but traffic is little bit heavy at summit time. There are construction field on street in summer may block the way.
The temperature in summer (in June) is good for travel on day and at night for sleep.
Airport is new and highway is also new and convenient, People are friendly. The city is close to forest, grassland and some sand dunes, landscape are diverse, My only concern is the grassland under great pressure of overgrazing and risk to degradation.

During my recent visit to Ulaanbator, Mongolia, I had the pleasure of staying at Eagle Town Apartment - a unique and authentic accommodation that allowed me to immerse myself in the local culture and lifestyle.
Located on the western front of the city, the apartment offered a truly one-of-a-kind experience that allowed me to get a glimpse of the traditional Mongolian way of life. The apartment was spacious, clean, and well-equipped with all the necessary amenities for a comfortable stay.
What made my experience truly unforgettable, however, was the opportunity to explore the local culture and landscape. I rented a car from my hotel and was amazed by the beauty of the countryside and the warmth of the locals. Despite the language barrier, I felt welcomed and appreciated the helpfulness of the people.
Overall, my stay at Eagle Town Apartment in Ulaanbator was a truly unique and memorable experience. I highly recommend this accommodation to anyone looking to immerse themselves in Mongolian culture and lifestyle. Whether you're a traveler seeking adventure or a cultural enthusiast looking to explore a new way of life, this is the perfect place for you!
The owner Bobby is amazing. She is the best host ever. I’ve stayed more than 100 guest houses, but Bobby is the best. She is super kind and nice. I asked airport transportation, and her sister picked me up, and she was also very very nice.
and the guest house has very clean bathrooms, that’s what I really liked about this place.
Also it’s in the great location, very central of the city, nice cafe is next door, ATM and convenience store is just outside of the guest house. but quiet. it was just perfect.
I booked the Tuushin last minute due to a change in plans and got a good deal on the rate. I only needed to stay one night for business, but the location is great, the room was spacious, and the wifi worked well. I want to especially compliment Mr. Davaatseren at the front desk for his friendliness and great customer service. One important note, if you refer to the hotel as the Best Western, people won't know what it is and will look at you confused. The locals call it the Tuushin.
We really enjoyed our stay at Platinum Hotel, we were especially delighted by the wide selection of breakfast, the location of the hotel, and the wonderful staff. They were genuinely hospitable, polite and friendly. The hotel’s rooms are spacious, with very comfortable beds. Everything’s clean and nice. Truly one of the best hotels in Ulaanbaatar. We are happy when the expectations match the reality! Thank you and we definitely are looking forward to visiting you again.
The hotel has great location, the twin room actually has three separate rooms, two balconies with awesome views on UB and breakfast in the room. The staff was very helpful and we could check in before the official time. We also appreciated that we could fill out water bottles with filtered water in the staff room - however, we do recommend to make such a water tank available for everybody's use since the water in the tap is not good to drink.
The facility was absolutely perfect. We were quickly picked up from the airport and settled into our room. The kitchen and bedroom areas were very clean. Also, everything was fully stocked in the shower. The room was warm enough. Their staff was extremely friendly and attentive, and they met our few requests immediately. We stayed for 1 night, but if we tour Mongolia, we will definitely stay here. Thank you very much everyone.
The host was very hospitable and accomodating. The place is so comfortable with stable Wifi and even free coffee. I am definitely going back here if I come back to Ulaanbaatar.
The host even arranged for my transfer to the airport early in the morning and provided free breakfast before I left.
You can also pay in dollars or VISA/mastercard if you have limited tughriks converted.
It’s definitely nice to have a fully equipped apartment to call home while in UB. However, they are not really “serviced” - room cleaning is only once a week. They cater more to long-term guests which made for a fairly uncomfortable and lengthy check in / check out as we had to go through every single item in the apartment (even when I had to leave for the airport at 5am!)
Very good service. There is a shopping gallery at the ground floor, including food store, where you can buy all you need during your stay.
I had to leave earlier and hotel made reimbursement of my advanced paid amount within a few days after my departure. This is very nice and deserves respect. Next time in Mongolia I will certainly stay at this hotel again.
I arrived in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, from America a few days ago. I needed a very comfortable hotel, so I chose the Nomado Boutique Hotel after searching on Booking.com. When I arrived, I was greeted by friendly staff and loved the ambiance. The hotel room allowed me to think calmly. I left the hotel feeling satisfied.
I was pleasantly surprised and for a moment had to remind myself I was still in Mongolia. A gem in the city. There was even an air purifier & humidifer in the room. I wasn’t able to use any amenities but the room was comfortable (a little on the hot side but that’s not their fault as the heat is determined by the city).
Hotel's location was centric, but a bit tricky to reach since I had to walk through small streets. The room was very spacious and the bed comfortable! The staff lady was very kind and helpful, and the breakfast was delicious! I wish I could have stayed longer!
The location was top ,the room was huge and very confortable it was super clean and the stuff was very friendly and helpful I wish I could have stayed more time here but it was full booked and I can understand why :) really nice place to stay in Ulaanbaatar
Best place in UB. Breakfast was good and changed every day. Staff was helpful and friendly. Rooms were basic (it is mongolia) but comfortable, lots of areas to hang out, kitchen to cook in, good location.
Everytime when I visit Mongolia I stay here. Great location. Everything in walking distance. Save so much time. Excellent breakfast buffet with many choices. I really liked the traditional food section.
Locafion of Hotel 9 in central UB is excellent for sight seeing. Attached Mongolian restaurant was good. Staff were very helpful. Rooms were clean and generally the hotel is fresh.
maybe location .. but overall it’s anyway far from airport . but free pick up transfer provided .
very good host , helpful and everything..
but apartment was not good at all ..
