We travelled to Assen to attend an important art exhibition at the Drents. We had no other itinerary, other than to see the exhibition, and leave. What a pleasant surprise! Friendly, engaging locals, and a pretty little town that is really easy to get around. We stayed the night, and were happy we did. An unforeseen highlight of our visit to Holland.

Assen is a beautiful city, and is perfect for a visit, We go every year for the BSB races, we always come away feeling like we want to stay longer, locals are so friendly, the streets are clean, I always visit Deer Park a lovely park with friendly Red Deer who will happily take carrots off passing visitors.
Take the walk or cycle through Asserbos a wood full of paths and trees with bird houses on them the Dutch care.
Eating out is full of choices, various restaurants are located in the square.
The station is in the centre so go to Gronigen a city of diversity and students, the museum is worth a visit, marvel at the Martino Tower and walk up to the top for a view of Gronigen. Train takes 17 minutes. Two hours away is Amsterdam and trains are comfy, regular (even on Sunday) so no excuses.

There are lots of places to eat and drink in Assen but the town is incredibly quiet at night with no one walking about. This gives a bit of a dead atmosphere in my opinion. Not the place to go if you want to party. Fortunately, for me anyway, this meant quiet nights with plenty of sleep.

Assen is a small and quite city in north Holland, I wouldn’t make a speacial trip only to visit here, but if it’s on your way, you will find a lively center with shops and great restaurants with delicious food! I especially recommend the Tapas bar Villa Tapas and on Wednesdays morning there’s a market right in the center. Nice to walk around.

Assen is a paradise place!
Assen is a paradise place! So compact, but so classic and historical. There are many cute houses, cozy cafes and restaurants in the center. Visit also the museum and the garden with birds in the forest.
The facilities were clean and well organized. The accommodations are starting to show its years but people are doing a good job keeping it up.
Althoug the hotel was full and the hotel's section of the parking lot was fully occupied, there are more alternatives to park your vehicle.
The breakfast was excellent and varied.
I was in the area for business and didn't have time to explore the rest of the complex, but evidently more is offered that a simple stay, should you happen to be with your family.
Great spa. Comfortable spacious room with terras. We travelled with a dog which was not allowed in the restaurant but we could dine in the bar without leaving our dog alone in the room. For breakfast, there are tables in the lobby which provide a solution. There is a forest next to the hotel. Breakfast had many choices and was good value for money.
What can I say. Everything was just perfect, the entry, the parking, the beautiful cottage, the clean rooms and the phenomenal breakfast and to our host Esther: wow, such a sympathetic, friendly, helpful lady. The accommodation is definitely worth a recommendation and everyone who stays there will agree with me, I promise!
Very nice park and surroundings. Lots of activities and clean. Nice to have a private room and terrace. Centrally located for access to Assen. Very nice area to walk and cycle. The staff tried to resolve our problem. (See below). We were offered lunch as compensation for the inconvenience.
I booked this hotel for my parents as they came for the first time to the netherlands to visit my fiance's family. it was exceptional and it was in the city center so there was a lot to do! My parents loved it and also said that the free hotel breakfast was amazing.
The hotel is in a great location. It has excellent facilities such as swimming pools and places of entertainment and games for different ages. The hotel staff was very good and professional. The breakfast was very good. There were great spaces for car parking.

The hosts, Bert & Anneke, made our stay very memorable. Very comfortable and beautiful accommodation and great breakfast spread! We enjoyed the extra touches, like the new weber so that we could bbq!
I come to Assen every once in a while for work and always stay here if I can. The breakfast is amazing (so much food that I also pack a lunch), the b&b smells lovely and the location is perfect.
We were in Assen for a 5 day cycling event. The apartment was the perfect location and our hosts were very welcoming and their provision for our bike related needs was most appreciated.
