A paradise in the Austrian state of Salzburg, Zell am See is located along the shores of the Zell Lake and surrounded by mountains like the 2000-metre high Schmittenhöhe. It is an important ski centre in the winter and a hiking and mountain-biking paradise during summer.
The area has been occupied since Roman times, but the village was founded around the year 740 by the order of Bishop Johannes I of Salzburg. The picturesque Old Town includes typical Alpine style buildings, as well as the oldest building of the region, St. Hippolyte's Church. The Austrian area of Zell am See offers a wide range of hotels, B&B’s, apartments, and guest houses.
The leisure centre has a covered pool, a sauna and steam bath, and special facilities for kids. Zell am See is a gateway to the Hohe Tauern National Park, the biggest of the Alps and Austria’s oldest.
The nearby town of Kaprun is home to the 12th-century Kaprun Castle and the Kitzsteinhorn glacier. Salzburg Airport is 100 km away, while Sixt Innsbruck Airport is 150 km away. Whether you’re searching for hotels in Zell am See with ski facilities, or a cosy ‘gasthaus’ with a garage for your bike, check out the variety available on Booking.com!

Zell am See didn't have the quaint alps village feel at all, more like a regular large town, the high street was very disappointing.
The scenery of the lake and mountains was breath taking. Simply beautiful.
Snow for skiing in Feb 24 was absolutely awful given the low altitude! A lot of mud patches on the lower runs rendering them unusable. I would consider elsewhere for skiing option tbh. The ski resort was small and good for beginners/families primarily.
I felt very safe walking around the town.

We loved Zell am See.
We loved Zell am See. From the ease of getting here (the train from Salzburg is clean, quick and on time), to the scenery, beautiful town and great people. Everyone was pleasant to deal with, the facilities are excellent (although watch out for the supermarkets closing early compared to the UK) and the skiing is brilliant. Lift queues were generally short. However, as expected, everything is expensive!

What I like the most: Friendly staff, free use of washing machine and dryer at the lobby, underground garage, spacious living room and fully equipped kitchen, near the lake for a leisure walk and near to town and near to a lot of ski lifts and cable car to Schmittenhöhe
What I don like: nothing. Just be sure not to have a late check in so that you can seek for help before the reception close

Zell am See is truly beautiful.
Zell am See is truly beautiful. We had an amazing week of skiing with an excellent ski guide (Thomas Hager, https://www.alpin-guide.com/eng/), who added so much to our ski holiday experience. The town of Zell am See has an array of great restaurants, bars and shops. We travelled over the Christmas period and the place was festive with lots of Christmas spirit in the air! We would highly recommend a trip to Zell am See.

Zell am See is a proper small town with a lovely pedestrian zone and not just a ski resort. It is located on one side of a beautiful lake, surrounded by mountains. There's a good choice of places to eat and drink and I particularly like the Gin House and Steinerwirt. I get the sense it's quite a good place for a mixed group of those who ski/snowboard and those who don't, but it's particularly good for skiers as there are several lift options from and around the town, so wherever you stay you'll probably be close to one of the base lifts. Accommodation on the hill just above the town will have great views and, provided you leave your equipment at a base station or have a car, the walk is quite pleasant.

My four days stay at Zell am See was an unforgettable...
My four days stay at Zell am See was an unforgettable experience. Nice weather, romantic evenings and alot of activities to do. Cable car, Alpian hiking, gorges, cruise tours, boat rides, ; In short everything was there. Driving through the mountains and waterfalls feels like heavenly.
The location of the hotel was great, in the centre of Zell am See and the staff were really helpful, providing information about public transport and how to get to places.
Ok size room with a good ensuite. It was great to have a fan in the room as it can be hot in the summer and you definitely need the ventilation to be comfortable.
Another good thing was the fact that the double bed was an actual double bed rather than two singles stuck together.
Me and my wife enjoyed a lot the stay at the Hotel Landhaus Zell am See, the staff is very kind and attended our requests and have a very good english level.
The place offers great value for the price including the region's summer card and breakfast and for an extra there is a nice dinner menu at night which we recommend.
The rooms are tidy and comfortable and offered all that was necessary for our stay.
Free parking in the hotel.
The hotel staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel is excellent, providing easy access to ski lifts, nearby shops, and restaurants. Moreover, the breakfast was awesome, to be honest, we weren't expecting it to be that good. Besides, having dinner at the hotel is a great choice too. The meal was so delicious that it left us craving for more. We would definitely love to stay here on our next visit.
We had an excellent time at this hotel. Super clean, right in the centre of Zell am See. They provide bathrobes and slippers. Breakfast was really good. They can also cook a la carte omlettes with different fillings and fried eggs. There is a rooftop bar with amazing views over the lake and the surrounding mountains. Would definitely book again. We chose to stay here because we drove on Grossglockner road the next day.
The staffers were all extremely pleasant, very friendly, always willing to help and to attend our needs. Clearly, the friendliest place we have been so far in Austria, for 8 years of living here. As non German speaking people, we were also always spoken to in bery good English. We give 5 stars to Dahoam by Sabrina and wish them the best.
Comfortable room. Very good breakfast. Ski / boot room warm. Just over 300m to Ariet gondola. Ski bus stops just outside for Kaprun or Zell Am See on the lake.
Bus depot is 250m from hotel where Line 260 bus departs to Salzburg airport.
Zell Am Zee is a very pleasant town to stroll around with loads of restaurants and cafes.
It was a very nice hotel with clean room, heated pool and nice, quiet wellness area. A stay at the hotel provides you with Kaprun sommer card which gets you free entry to several cable cars, boat trip on the lake and etc.
Our 2 families with kids from 2 to 13 years old enjoyed the hotel as well.
It was my first stay at Hotel Gruner Baum ....I have been in Zell am See many times before but never had a chance to book my stay here. It was a great choice and I really enjoyed it.
Perfect location in heart of Zell am See. Really great breakfast and dinner. Close to ski resorts....
Amazing location. Very close to CityExpress lift. Our rooms were cleaned every day. Friendly staff. Big ski room. Table tennis. Hint for the visitors: When you come back you can slide down from the slope (#7) right to your the door of your apartments.
The house is in a fantastic location, close to the shops, restaurants and ski slopes.
The house is well laid out with lots of space. It was warm, well equipped and the owners were friendly and welcoming.
We will be rebooking it for next year.
Location was nice, and close to shops and ski lifts. The sauna was amazing after a long day snowboarding. Apartments themselves were amazing, clean, comfy and felt like brand new (:
