Great location for those who want to travel in the province of Salzburg. We went for a walk on Ghost Mountain (the cable car a few hundred meters from the hotel). We took a trip to the Lichtenstein Gorge - this place is a MUST! Its five-minute drive - during busy times in the summer, it's convenient because you can start the day there when it's not too busy and hot yet. The trip to other attractions and sites is also short and the hotel itself is very close to the highway for those who want to reach sites such as the salt mines in Hallein, Hohenwerfen Castle, Salzburg and more. The town of St. Johann im Pongau has many shops and the area has some good restaurants with local food.

The city has all what a tourist needs.
The city has all what a tourist needs. One may say typical Apline city, but has it's nice unique spots - for me: the old bridge neighbourhood (I'd say the old town). As it is located on a slope for me it's more pictureous than others located just in a valley.

Sank Johann was a very pretty town with a good range of shops, restaurants and cafes. We were there for the Skiing so did not spend a lot of time in the town, or at some of the attractions. However I have been coming to Sank Johann in the winter since 2009 and have never been disappointed.
I have never visited in the summer but I can only assume that it will be also be an excellent base from which to explore the area.
Bus service is excellent and Salzburg is only 1hr 15 away. €11 by train and does not require you to change trains.

The mountains around St Johann im Pongau are wonderful, the town its self has changed a lot. It used to be the main place to stay for winter sports in the area, but this has slowly been superseded by Alpendorf where there are a number of modern hotels and apartments (often moderately expensive).
This has caused a lot of the change which includes many of the great bars and restaurants closing and being replaced by some modern residential buildings (most recently the Silbergasse which we all loved).
Of course, if you stay on the edge of town, or a little up the hill (as we did this time), then there are beautiful places to stay. The remaining Hotels like Alpenland, The Brückenwirt and the Lerch and others can also be highly reccomended. Recently, the local Hahnbaum chair lift (where we started skiing in the early 80s) was removed and not replaced. That used to be a great place to ski with the locals on a Sunday after a later night out at ski lovers bar (also long gone). A beginner's area with a T-Lift and Banana lift still exist on the Hahnbaum, but in general you will ski out of Alpendorf (5 minutes drive up the hill), or you just have a short drive to many of the other "Salzburger Skiwelt" areas such as Großarl and Hoch König to mention just 2 out of many.
The town has expanded somewhat over the years, on the plus side this gives plenty of scope for food shopping if you are staying in an apartment. It is a town that many (like us) still love as we have been visiting for so many years, and it is always great to see familiar faces when on a winter holiday. The local people have always been extremely welcoming and very friendly.
Some prefer Wagrain, which has retained its quaint mountain village / town atmosphere and not as crowded as Flachau. Close by is Kleinarl which is a perfect Family resort.
For us, St Johann was and still is the center of the Salzburger Ski Welt, and we will hopefully be regulars for many years to come.

It's a tiny boring village with nearly zero apres-ski activities - just to sleep in the night. It's good enough for the locals but not for the guests. I guess it's better than Altenmarkt but less good than Flachau.
A good place to spend an evening is Havannah. Platzl bar - is also a good place to drink beer or local wines with an exellent kitchen stuff.

The hotel offers an unbeatably beautiful view from both the terrace and the balcony. It has been such enjoyment to sit on the terrace while eating breakfast/dinner. Dinner was homemade authentic Austrian food, very tasty, and at a reasonable price. The lady who received us was super friendly and helpful. Due to my health conditions, I cannot eat many things so they always tried their best to attend to my need, which was highly appreciated. The room was spacious, with a fully renovated bathroom.
Location: the guest house is nestled in the stunning Austrian Alps with breathtaking nature. Not far from the city center, offering the best of the county side and the city
Apartments: spotlessly clean and incredibly cozy.
Area: well-maintained and beautifully groomed.
Parking: conveniently available for guests.
Walking Passes: great paths nearby for walking and exploring. There are several playgrounds also
Hosts: extremely helpful and ensured our stay was comfortable
Cosy family hotel with great view and tasty breakfasts.
The owner and his family were very friendly and helpful with all our queries. We had a beautiful view from our balcony and could enjoy the saunas and a pool every day after skiing. There was a bus to the slopes, what was very comfortable for us, but we also tried an option to come down from the slope directly to the hotel. Interesting experience!😊
The hotel was clean and offered a lot of activities . The breakfasts were amazing and the dinners were generally good with lots of choice. An excellent salad bar. Sadly the waterfall pool was not working but the spa, the roof top and indoor pool were excellent. The location was superb and we were given lockers in the ski shop next to the gondola and were able to ski off directly.
Extremely cosy room (which was even nicer than on the photos), very spacious with a huge shared balcony to enjoy the most amazing view I have ever seen before. We really enjoyed that the Austrian feel was still maintained at the hotel. Breakfast was very nice too, and the host was very sweet and accommodating. We felt very much at home :)
Everything is new, has a great fireplace, sleeping section is separated from living room section.
Has everything you need in the kitchen.
Host Tanja is very welcoming and provides genuine milk, eggs and bread produced on their farm.
20 minutes from 4 different ski locations.
Scenery is great, peaceful surroundings.
We stayed at the farmhouse appartment, and were blown away by how spacious it was! Very clean and well equipped appartment where we spent 10 great days with our dog. The food at the hotel was absolutely great and exceeded our expectations. Lots to do in the surrounding areas as well.
We went there after Christmas for ski holiday, hotel was very nice, clean, room were good size. Easy access to ski storage. Stuff / owner very friendly and helpful. Delicious dinner with soup and desert ( choice from 2 )
highly recommend it !!
The best view in town 😀
Beautiful location... ski to door. Very friendly staff/owners.... Responded quickly to any enquiry. Gave us extra duvets or kitchenware when we needed them. Another family was able to stay in the same house, which made it an extra special holiday.
Very clean and spacious room, nice breakfast.
Although the hotel is next to a main road, it is very quiet thanks to the great soundproofing.
I forgot my favourite sunglasses there, they found it and we picked up the next day, thank you again!
the hotel was in a great location. the property is very well equipped, especially with the inclusion of the spa and pool. the staff is awesome to an employee and the restaurant is absolutely the best to include the breakfast in the morning.
Beautifully located and newly renovated apartment. It's also very well equipped, so everything's perfect for your skiing/snowboarding adventure in Austria. The nearest ski resort, shops and restaurants is 10 minutes away.
Wonderful hotel! We loved the pools, playground, animals and the pony rides. The hotel is clean and beautiful with wonderful mountain views. The staff were very kind and we enjoyed the breakfast too. Highly recommend!
Comfy, spacious and well-furnished apartment at the outskirts of St. Johann im Pongau.
A private terrace with a view on the city and surrounding hills.
Great location - only 2 minutes away from the city center.
Everything. It was perfect. Super clean, the manager and the staff were very friendly and kind. The breakfast was tasty. Parking at the hotel. Highly recommended!
The hotel is amazing. You are on the mountain and ski directly onto or off of a great run. The Staff is great and the restaurant makes incredible food.
