Great location for those who want to travel in the province of Salzburg. We went for a walk on Ghost Mountain (the cable car a few hundred meters from the hotel). We took a trip to the Lichtenstein Gorge - this place is a MUST! Its five-minute drive - during busy times in the summer, it's convenient because you can start the day there when it's not too busy and hot yet. The trip to other attractions and sites is also short and the hotel itself is very close to the highway for those who want to reach sites such as the salt mines in Hallein, Hohenwerfen Castle, Salzburg and more. The town of St. Johann im Pongau has many shops and the area has some good restaurants with local food.

The city has all what a tourist needs.
The city has all what a tourist needs. One may say typical Apline city, but has it's nice unique spots - for me: the old bridge neighbourhood (I'd say the old town). As it is located on a slope for me it's more pictureous than others located just in a valley.

Sank Johann was a very pretty town with a good range of shops, restaurants and cafes. We were there for the Skiing so did not spend a lot of time in the town, or at some of the attractions. However I have been coming to Sank Johann in the winter since 2009 and have never been disappointed.
I have never visited in the summer but I can only assume that it will be also be an excellent base from which to explore the area.
Bus service is excellent and Salzburg is only 1hr 15 away. €11 by train and does not require you to change trains.

The mountains around St Johann im Pongau are wonderful, the town its self has changed a lot. It used to be the main place to stay for winter sports in the area, but this has slowly been superseded by Alpendorf where there are a number of modern hotels and apartments (often moderately expensive).
This has caused a lot of the change which includes many of the great bars and restaurants closing and being replaced by some modern residential buildings (most recently the Silbergasse which we all loved).
Of course, if you stay on the edge of town, or a little up the hill (as we did this time), then there are beautiful places to stay. The remaining Hotels like Alpenland, The Brückenwirt and the Lerch and others can also be highly reccomended. Recently, the local Hahnbaum chair lift (where we started skiing in the early 80s) was removed and not replaced. That used to be a great place to ski with the locals on a Sunday after a later night out at ski lovers bar (also long gone). A beginner's area with a T-Lift and Banana lift still exist on the Hahnbaum, but in general you will ski out of Alpendorf (5 minutes drive up the hill), or you just have a short drive to many of the other "Salzburger Skiwelt" areas such as Großarl and Hoch König to mention just 2 out of many.
The town has expanded somewhat over the years, on the plus side this gives plenty of scope for food shopping if you are staying in an apartment. It is a town that many (like us) still love as we have been visiting for so many years, and it is always great to see familiar faces when on a winter holiday. The local people have always been extremely welcoming and very friendly.
Some prefer Wagrain, which has retained its quaint mountain village / town atmosphere and not as crowded as Flachau. Close by is Kleinarl which is a perfect Family resort.
For us, St Johann was and still is the center of the Salzburger Ski Welt, and we will hopefully be regulars for many years to come.

It's a tiny boring village with nearly zero apres-ski activities - just to sleep in the night. It's good enough for the locals but not for the guests. I guess it's better than Altenmarkt but less good than Flachau.
A good place to spend an evening is Havannah. Platzl bar - is also a good place to drink beer or local wines with an exellent kitchen stuff.

We had a lovely stay in one of the 1 bedroom apartments. It was on the ground floor, with a small kitchen and pull out sofa which our daughter used. The bedroom was very large. Some kitchen items were a little light, but overall, it had what we needed to cook some basic meals. Parking out front was convenient and there was a small balcony. The location was great, in Alpendorf, nearby many things to explore and a good stop over coming or going to Salzburg.
The hotel is near the train station, which was convenient as we arrived late. The room was clean and modern with a very nice bathroom, the breakfast was good as well, cold cuts, tea, coffee, juices, bread and buns, cereals, eggs made to order. We did not have time to enjoy the wellness area but bathrobes were provided in the room. A cute dog welcomed us at the reception, a nice bonus to our stay!
Die Reinbachstube is an exceptional hotel that offers a charming and cozy atmosphere. The staff is attentive and friendly, providing excellent service throughout our stay. The rooms are well-maintained, comfortable, and adorned with tasteful decor. Overall, Die Reinbachstube provides a wonderful experience for those seeking a memorable stay.
Very nice and peaceful place on a slope of a mountain - 250 m above the town of St. Johann im Pongau and a bit further away from a busier Alpendorf. The apartament looks very fresh and modern with all the facilities for a comfy stay. There is a nice terace and inner yard with a nice view of a town down the slope.
Panorama Alpendorf is absolutely perfect. Well plannedout, thoughtfully designed and decorated. Super comfortable beds, amazing view of the Alps. But the Wirth family are the top attraction. Kind hosts, super helpful and genuinely good people. Will definitely look to plan another trip!
I highly recommend Pension Appartements Reithof. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. Rooms are very clean and comfortable. Breakfasts are very good,
Pension Appartements Reithof is located just next to the skibus stop. The bus takes you to the Alpendorf gondola in 2 minutes.
Everything was perfect. The accommodation has a very good location, it is close to Alpendorf chairlift. The only minus that the property has is that they haven't updated their photos on booking. It's much more beautiful in reality. Exceeded our expectations.
We had a great week in Alpendorf, would recommend this appartment complex. Great view of the valley. New property (2021), well maintained. Friendly staff who operate on the basis of trusting their guests (which is nice for a change). Nice pool for the kids.
Beautiful location... ski to door. Very friendly staff/owners.... Responded quickly to any enquiry. Gave us extra duvets or kitchenware when we needed them. Another family was able to stay in the same house, which made it an extra special holiday.
I have stayed at dozen of hotels. This was on the top of the list of best stays/experiences ever. Great location. We really loved the character of the hotel. The restaurant was fantastic and staff was friendly and helpful. Thank you so much.
The hotel is locates in a ski resort, so for the summer holidays it’s not the perfect ambiance.
The room was okay; it has everything you need, Wifi was working fine and a there was a balcony.
Breakfast was good, with enough to choose from.
A perfect location with a great view. The apartment is modern and well equipped with a cosy traditional feel to it, and the hosts are really friendly. We booked this place for a skiing trip, and it was everything we hoped for and more.
Staff were very nice.
Room was great.
Hotel itself had nice meals, spa, pool sauna etc which were amazing. There was even a live music performance by the hotel bar one night.
Highly recommend.
Everything. It was perfect. Super clean, the manager and the staff were very friendly and kind. The breakfast was tasty. Parking at the hotel. Highly recommended!
