The staff and reception were very polite and helpful, I personally thank Trevor, Connie and Marie for their smile and helpfulness. FAQs about hotels in Beijing

From Chinese Dynasties to Cultural Dynamics

A world-renowned gem, sprawling Beijing has magnificent monuments and peaceful parks. At its heart is the world’s largest square, Tiananmen, surrounded by important museums and the amazing Forbidden City. This 15th-century, walled complex of palaces neighbors Jingshan Park and Beihai Park with its imperial garden.

Across from Tiananmen Square is the ultra-modern National Center for Perfoming Arts, a beacon of the city’s culture so impressively displayed at the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the Bird’s Nest Stadium.

To its east is the UNESCO World Heritage listed Summer Palace, a lakeside retreat of emperors, while also UNESCO listed is the grand Temple of Heaven in Chongwen district, where remnants of Ming dynasty city walls are visible. Nearby are several hutongs, narrow alleys with traditional architecture, that contrast with wider, modern roads like Beijing Financial Street, the city's business area.

The most popular Beijing shopping street is Wangfujing, and other must-see sights include the giant pandas at Beijing Zoo and the Great Wall of China, an easy day trip from Beijing.

As you would expect from the capital of the world’s most populous country, there are a good number of 5-star hotels in Beijing on Booking.com, mainly in the Dongcheng and Chaoyang districts. There are also several hotels near Beijing Capital Airport in the northeast.

If your prepared to join a log queue the 6 day stopover free visa gives you the opportunity to see some great sites e.g. Forbidden City (but book in advance) , Bejing Zoo (Pandas), Great Wall (40 miles away), the Botanical Garden etc.. The Metro is a cheap way to access the city, although you'll need help from Metro staff in buying tickets. Taxis are cheap. Also pick your restaurant carefully and you'll get to try genuine Chinese food.

The hotel location is average n requires 15 mins walk to Metro n eating places. Didi application for foreigners is not user friendly n at times unable to connect due to constraint if knowing the street name in English translation to Chinese words. Frustrating especially during peak hours as the taxi will apply their own fee in addition to the indicated charges. I had already secure a taxi by number that I book earlier. It stop n pick another passenger in front of me becos the other was willing to pay extra n driver just cancel my booking n claim he waited for 5mins for me at the location. I saw him drive off in front of me .. There is no authority that I can report to about his misconduct n unethical behavior. The software for Didi is not user friendly for tourists who goes not speak Mandarin to date.

When in Beijing, it will be easier if you have a language translator application since not everyone can speak English. Or if you know how to speak Chinese, then there is no problem for you. Another thing you should have is WeChat app or Wexin Pay (I think) or if you have UnionPay credit card, since not all shops especially fast foods accepts cash or any credit card. Make sure to have these Chinese government-allowed applications since most western applications on your mobile is not allowed by their country, Also, dont bother buying tourist Sim, use your own network's roaming plans. Local tourist sims offer poor signal.

A great capital city with lots to see.

A great capital city with lots to see. Super easy to get around by metro or didi/taxi. Close to the Great Wall which was a highlight for us - go to the less touristy parts of the wall for a better experience! Forbidden city has to be seen but the crowds and immense size make it pretty exhausting after a couple of hours. The park to the north of forbidden city offers an amazing view of the whole complex but again super busy if you go at certain times. We also enjoyed exploring the hutongs with their small local restaurants and bars. Four days was about right to see the main sights and not get overwhelmed by all the people!

Travel in winter means all taxes & restaurant are smokey.

Travel in winter means all taxes & restaurant are smokey. I wish I know that to start. Restaurants do not offer tea in pot but water only, disappointing. Still would travel in Beijing, perhaps in autumn when is not cold and smokey in doors.
