We chose Bad Wiessee as we wanted to be within easy-ish reach of Munich, but surrounded by nature.
The setting is lovely, at the edge of the Bavarian alps. However, the town itself is not very interesting ☹️ It seems almost totally devoted to quiet, sedate home-grown tourism (maybe for an older crowd) and we felt slight oddities, as English speaking visitors. For example, the tourist information lady was not especially welcoming and gave us the wrong info about the boats over to Tegernsee. And the crew lady of one of the boats was also very unhelpful (rude in truth) when we didn’t understand the somewhat confusing boat timetable. Others (German speakers, unlike us) also seemed perplexed.
Really, we would have preferred to stay in Tegernsee on the other side of the lake, as the boats only operated for limited hours and the train station is over in Tegernsee. Buses weren’t reliable!! We missed a train because we waited half an hour for a bus that never materialised. Bad Wiessee isn’t really suitable for those travelling by train / public transport , as we were. I’d pick somewhere else unless you have a car or fancy cycling everywhere. There were lots of cyclists (mostly older, on e-bikes). Plus food options weren’t that appealing. A lot of places seemed closed and/ or very traditional.

The location on the lake is quite lovely with fairly easy access by public transit. The Christmas markets were worth the weekend trip! I'll definitely come back during the spring to enjoy the lake in warmer weather.

The town was great, location for the dogs and walks were fantastic, it is just an overpriced hotel with little to offer! Would not go back because we have done it, but will definitely go back to the area to visit and walk more :)

Beautiful Lakeside village.
Beautiful Lakeside village. We stayed at Horel Lada Am Eck, a no frills relaxed hotel. Very quiet with a few very good restaurants. We loved the Italian La Vela - but do book as it gets very busy and Gasthus Zum Post for an amazing mixed grill sharing platter.
Easy to use boats for touring the other lake towns and bus system for getting about the area.
It seemed the quietest of all the towns but lovely and relaxing walks along the lakeside. There’s a yacht marina.
Lovely clothes shops and an amazing Gelateria.

Bad Wiessee has beautiful lake side walks and lots of lovely places to sit. Very well kept. Very helpful tourist information staff. Good concentration of facilities, including some very nice restaurants (particularly enjoyed our meal at the Niederstub'n) and great provision of public toilets. Schmid Franz bike hire in Bad Wiessee was fantastic value for money - only 7 euros for the whole day and you can drop the key off if you get back late - very helpful and friendly too.
Not many places accepted cards which meant taking money out all the time. Could be more cafes open in the morning on the lake front - most places only opened nearer to lunch time. Felt like a more sedate town compared to Tegernsee and Rottach Egern - even though we were in our early 40s, we definitely felt we were some of the younger visitors!
In Tegernsee the brewery restaurant was very busy, but excellent value, as is its gift store (watch the gift stores next door are very pricey though!). Also Cafe Aran on the lake front is a real gem - lovely place to enjoy coffee and cake. Again really helpful Tourist Information staff.
Really recommend hiring bikes to cycle around the lake all day. We did the cable car up to the top of the Wallberg and walked down but you can take it down too. Also can recommend the walk between the Schliersee and Tegernsee - we took a bus to Schliersee and the stopped off half way at a gorgeous little hut which sold food and drink, halfway. It was about 9 miles and can 4.5 -6 hours depend how much you stop. Amazing views, good paths and very well signposted - you don't even need a map!
Overall, Tegernsee is a fantastically beautiful area and very set up for visitors. Make sure you ask about the Tegernsee Karte.
The owners of this hotel are very friendly and gracious. The hotel is well maintained, clean and cozy. Our room was large with two balconies, spotless and equipped with all amenities.
The breakfast buffet was excellent and the owner himself looked after each guest with anything you might want additionally to the breakfast buffet. Our stay at the Landhaus Marinella was wonderful and I can definitely recommend this hotel as a very nice place to stay during your holiday.
Beautiful spacious apartment. There is a lovely restaurant in the same building suitable for breakfast. StayFtitz also offer delivery services for breakfast (additional costs), which could not be used during the Pfingstferien (holidays). Mostly clean. Kitchen appliances were good. There is a tile stove. A balcony surrounds the apartment, very nice.
Location was excellent right on the lake. The room was nicely renovated with "light Bavarian" furnishings and the entire hotel very clean. They offered a good selection for breakfast until 11am. Nice size indoor pool and quite a few saunas and steam room. Bikes were available for rental and the staff was quite helpful with our various requests.
The hotel exceeded my expectations in every way. The owners are great hosts, the rooms and shared spaces are clean and comfortable, and the breakfast is superb. It's the best price/performance option I've found in Bad Wiessee and it's 5 minutes walking distance to the Tegernsee lake and boat to Tegernsee town center. ⛴️
Very clean, great location with easy access to the Bad Wiessee city center and ferry stop, easy self check-in, apartment was very well stocked (kitchenette had salt, pepper, and every utensil you could need), wifi was excellent for both my partner and I doing zoom calls all day.
We would stay again!!
Great location, very close to the lake
Lovely room with rustic decor, just perfect for the area
Good breakfast in a lovely breakfast area (Wintergarten)
5 mins walking distance to the boat stop and lovely park in Bad Wiessee. We enjoyed peaceful morning walks with great views.
The room was spotless, I'd say the cleanest room I have ever seen in a hotel. The location was very convenient for access to the lake, hiking trails and also local amenities. The staff were lovely and the breakfast was delightful.
Stocked Minibar included in the room rate 😊
The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, and the breakfast is absolutely worth the ride to the Tegernsee. Such a yummie start into a relaxing day! Planning another weekend there cause it was such a great experience for a short getaway from the city life.
I had a fully equipped apartment close to public transportation and close to lake Tegernsee. The woman who is the host exceeds my understanding of friendliness.
Nothing can beat the family hotel!!! You can feel it from very first moment. I wish you guys 5 more generations of this hard but nice job. Thank you very much!
Very nice, newly renovated, clean hotel. It maintains the traditional bavarian style with modern amenities. Breakfast is extensive and the staff very nice.
