There is not much to see at Arthur's pass so there is no need to stay the night. if you do, this is a nice place to stay but I wouldn't call it a 4 star hotel. The rooms spacious and the staff is very nice so that definitely is a plus.

Best location! Cozy, quiet, and clean. Everything we needed was there. Hosts were great about giving us directions and useful information for our stay.
Built in 1865 and restored in 1902, Otira Stagecoach Hotel is located in the heart of the Arthur's Pass National Park. It offers antiques throughout as well as stagecoaches and horse wagons outside.

Was a last minute booking and left early without breakfast. Friendly staff with comfortable rooms, common shower facilities were fine. Location was good for lack of noise, not too far to drive to Arthur's Pass village.
Basic, Super 'Cosy' Cabin in The Middle of National Park and Mountains is located in Otira, just 7.3 miles from Devil’s Punchbowl Falls and 7.8 miles from Arthur's Pass Train Station.
Arthur's Pass is a 'shadow' of its former self. I first visited in the 1970's and for several decades since it has been a vibrant and busy alpine village boasting several cafe's, restaurants, and accommodation choices - plus a large and informative DoC Centre. Not any more. Very little accommodation choice in the village, and just one cafe open only during the day so you must bring your own food & supplies if wanting an evening meal. And the original DoC centre is closed and moved over the road into a container! All a little sad really, although the surrounding mountain views are definitely compensatory! So fine if planning to use AP as a base for day walks & multi-day tramping expeditions, Otherwise it is hard to justify a stay there other than as an overnight transit stop. As we were. But remember to bring food & supplies for dinner!

Overall I thought the place was great.
Overall I thought the place was great.
We only wanted to have a nice relaxing break in our journey, so we just did some short walking 🚶♂️ tracks to the waterfall ect, the scenery in the area is very good, the place is very beautiful and relaxing. And the Bealey Hotel is a must go to place for dinner with its knockout scenery and top shelf food and drinks.

Enjoyed short walks around Arthur’s Pass village,...
Enjoyed short walks around Arthur’s Pass village, especially the Bealey Valley walk. Visitor’s Centre didn’t have guide books (out of print),so best to plan online in advance. Exciting to see keas in village and at top of pass (Death’s View car park). Wish we could have stayed longer to explore longer trails.

Arthurs Pass is one of those places I love coming back to.
Arthurs Pass is one of those places I love coming back to. Not just for the Kea but also for the drive there, it is magical. It can get very busy in the summer months though. One thing to note. If you are staying the night, there are no shops there to speak of and the cafe is usually only open from 8 to 5 (at the moment 4.30 due to staffing issues). So best to stock up on your food and fuel (!) before you leave either side.

Its a long drive to see devil's bowl waterfall.
Its a long drive to see devil's bowl waterfall.
You can skip this if you already went for milford sound. The hike is short but had to climb several flights of stairs. Mum who is 73yrs gave up at the start. The experience was gd to be upclose to thw waterfall but it is much smaller than ive expected. There are several other hikes along the same paths but we didnt have time nor the energy to try the rest
Extremely Scenic (we fortunately got superb weather - Sunny :))
We stayed at The Tussocks for 2 nights (highly recommend the Tussocks) and did the Devils Punch Bowl and Bealy Spur Track.
Devils Punch Bowl is steep but short, and waterfall is majestic.
The Bealy Spur Track is moderately challenging, not very steep
but has a nagging gradient all the way through to the Bealy Top Hut
which is at 1540m. There was lot of snow near the hut (Mid Sept)
and enjoyed and
played in the snow while it was sunny. The forests, plateaus with Tussock grass are extremely enjoyable to walk and views of the surrounding mountains are stunning from the top.
Took us 2.5 hours to climb and 2 hours to descend for total 4.5 hr return walk. Highly enjoyable. Highly recommended.
The loft was easy to find, clean and had a really cosy feel. Very comfortable bed too! The addition of coffees and chocolates was a lovely touch.
Prior to staying, Rochelle was very helpful in getting in touch with the Bealey Hotel about dining options, and giving us information as to what cooking facilities were in the property. We stayed mid week in early winter, so (understandably) neither of the cafes in town were open during our stay - it was helpful to know this in advance to bring our own food. Thanks Rochelle!
A beautiful, cozy cottage set in a gorgeous location. Surrounded by snow covered peaks, rugged landscape, and wildlife. We had Kea visit everyday and we loved watching the rabbits hop around in the evening. The house is in a quiet location giving the peace and rest we needed. It was equipped with everything we needed. Very comfortable house in a gorgeous location. Arthur’s Pass is a delightful village with very generous locals. It is a hiker’s paradise and has become my favourite place in New Zealand.
This was such a lovely little lodge that gave us a much-needed break from the city. From the moment we checked in, Pete was so attentive and helpful, giving us tips for sightseeing. Their reception also has books, DVDs and board games you can borrow and take to your room which my partner and I loved! The room itself was huge, with everything we needed to make meals. Would definitely recommend this place.
This place offered me alot more than I expected. The place was really big and had more than enough room for me. The front entrance was quite decieving as it didn't look like much. But when I went to the 1st floor, was quite surprised to see how massive and luxury the place was. The kitchen was too good. The house had everything we need. Would definitely go again if I stay in Arthur's pass.
Beautiful little lodge situated at the picturesque Arthur's Pass. There are panoramic views of the mountains and the floor heating is divine to shield us from the cold!
Such a cosy stay after a day of heavy rain from the West Coast. It was snowing so hard in the morning so it was wonderful to see and absorb it all.
We enjoyed our stay at Arthur’s Pass Alpine Motel. It was warm, clean, and comfortable. Also it was very convenient to have a kitchenette as restaurants were limited and/or closed early. Fi was personable, welcoming, and very helpful with information and hike suggestions.
The great location, just sitting by the Waimakariri river bed, the mountain views are amazing. The friendly staff made us very kind of comfy. A simple but nice breakfast fitted a morning full of energy. Appreciate and recommend hotel.
Great kitchen facilities, and spacious room! The hotel provided loads of helpful information before we arrived (such as the fact that there is no grocery store in Arthur’s Pass), so it helped us be very prepared and enjoy our time.
I liked everything about this place. the actual rooms of built off of the main lodge and they felt very private. the views and location are also amazing. highly recommended.
The double bed in the triple room was the most comfortable bed we've had so far on our trip. Showers were clean and private. Location was perfect for the national park
Location is right in the heart of Arthur’s Pass village. Comfortable and spacious room. Thanks to Steve for recommending where to have meals and their closing hours.
Everything!
it was clean, comfortable & suited us perfectly
Handy location opposite the Bealey Hotel where we had a wonderful dinner. Quiet and great value
