Absolutely wonderful ‘holiday park’! We stayed in one of the cabins (SKI), and it was lovely! The most comfortable and ‘stylish’ place I stayed in New Zealand during my long journey. I love how they paid attention to details and actually put effort into making it extra pretty and cozy! It was spotless and spacious, with kitchen and outdoor seating. So well-maintained! It’s on the lake, which was so peaceful… would highly recommend it!

Breakfast was excellent. Associated with the Hare and Copper, which is an amazing restaurant, in our opinion. Hosts were very friendly, with a little guidebook to attractions in the area. They also help with advice and bookings for local activities. One of the best places we've ever stayed.

A comfortable apartment with great views over Lake Taupo. We stayed two nights and used it as our base for doing the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, so it was perfect for that. Oreti Resort is about 14km from Turangi, so you definitely need a car for eating out etc.BenNetherlands - 10Scored 10
We found plenty to do in our 3 day stay.
We found plenty to do in our 3 day stay. We popped up to Taupo and went to Orakei korako. Then to beautiful lake Rotopounamu and walked around that. And did the picturesque river walk. We hired a rental car so we could look around easily. We could have easily filled in a whole week.

Central to some wonderful activities such as great rafting, the walk Tongariro crossing, Ruapehu. 'Up market' accommodation is very limited but if you can get into the Tongariro Lodge, it is excellent. Worth the extra cost. The locals are helpful and the town has a nice relaxed non-touristy feel; however avoid leaving your car parked overnight on a street. Turangi is a lovely little town.
Turangi is a lovely little town. Not much going on in the actual town itself but has everything you need in terms of supermarkets etc. and easy access to the Tongariro Crossing and lots of other beautiful walks nearby. Recommend the Tongariro River Walk and Lake Rotopounamu walk too. Lovely swimming spots! I stayed for 4 nights in the end which was great. Recommend staying here! And also use Panda Shuttles to get to the Tongariro crossing or anywhere in the local area. Stay at Riverstone Lodge if you can!

The river is outstanding. Plenty of river walks and trails. Easy access to Turoa and Whakapapa ski fields and to Waiouru Army Museum. We ate at the local Hong Kong Takeaway-big servings, fresh food and hot. Turangi is flat-so very easy to get around for walkers, bikers and vehicles. We drove out for a trip and immediately passed the steaming cliffs and stopped at wonderful reed bedded beach, by lake Taupo. It had been prepared to welcome me - milk in the fridge, heating and lights on. The bed was comfortable, kitchen well equipped, bathroom excellent, furniture in lounge really good quality. There was even a newspaper at my door in the morning, a great touch. I'll definitely stay there again - I've struggled for years to find somewhere nice in Turangi.
