Chatel is situated in a picturesque valley.
Chatel is situated in a picturesque valley. This village has everything needed for tourists: shops, cafes, restaurants.
We visited city during school vacations, so it was overcrowded. If you want to have a dinner at the restaurant, you have to book at least 1 day ahead. I would recommended Le Duche creperie, small family business with perfect food.
I did not like skiing in Chatel, as the slopes are splited into 3 parts far fro each other.

Chatel is pretty and seems to attract sunny days (maybe we were lucky). Access to the other Porte du Soleil villages is also excellent. The variety of skiing too is huge - possibly not for beginners as you need to have a couple of years experience on skis to make the most of the resort.
People in the village seemed very friendly and helpful.
Another side - my wife fell heavily and required helicopter to the medical centre in Chatel. We were skiing in Switzerland at the time. The support from the pisteurs who came to help - and the whole management of the accident was first class. The medical centre in Chatel (Dr J Granet) were brilliant and highly professional and helpful. Ask me if you want to know more about a heli rescue!

I’ve been visiting Chatel for 20 years both winter and summer. Skiing, hiking and biking. Brilliant village and fantastic location. Great restaurants and I particularly like Pici Pasta an Italian themed family owned restaurant. Very comfortable. Remember to book!

Skiing village.
Skiing village. Probably extremely nice and lively in Winter period. In September, it is clearly off-season period. Still it us very nice to walk around. Other big touristic places are relatively far away (>45 min. driving); Charmonix/Mont Blanc: 1.5h by car.

Free travel to ski resorts.
Free travel to ski resorts. Very clean town with plenty of good standard of eateries. Stunning views of the alps and valleys. Would love to visit again. Lovely old chalets but too many apartments being built. Needs more single family small chalets.
The chalet is near to bobsled track. This is great for children. We had a pleasant view on the Linga. We appreciated the clean rooms. The bathroom is small but charming. It is a real "chalet" ambiance. The radiators work perfect. We say thank you to the courageous and smiling staff that helped for all the things that went wrong in the very few hours they are allowed to work. We could park close. The outside ski room is a great idea. The pool with a part outside is great (but fresh).
Could not stay at the property the landlady was drunk and abusive. Demanding additional cash and deposits. The chalet had a very bad smell and the abusive, rude and drunk landlady lived directly under the property on the ground floor. we have a disabled child who was becoming distressed and so were forced to leave and stay in a hotel nearby, which was excellent. Avoid this place and landlady at all costs.
Excellent location a short walk from La Linga lift, opposite a ski hire shop and a good restaurant. Free parking, friendly staff, very clean and pleasant rooms, good shower, excellent breakfast at good value. Asked and got a balcony room facing away from the road for the same price. Not a de-Lux hotel, but more than you could expect for the money and the stuff we’re very friendly and helpful.
The chalet is very well located, about 200m away from the telecabin/gondola and the ski rental Sport 2000.
Amenities, access to slopes, shops, shutlle.
The chalet is extremely well equipped even with a boot heater room !
Having a jacuzzi or a spa after a day of ski is the perfect combo.
All very convenient.
is exactly as people say - a relaxed 2 star hotel in good location - bus to Vonnes 50m from hotel - bus to Pre La Joux/Ligna within 5 min walk with ski boots - now bars and restaurants all within 10 mins walk max - very clean and comfortable - value for money
Lovely staff, good breakfast, great dinners. Hot showers. My friend got injured and without hesitation they changed our reservation to leave 2 days early without us even asking for it. Would 100% go back here
Very close to ski lift (La Linga) - about 100 metres away. This is on the right side of Chatel for access to Avoriaz. Also, there was a choice of ski hire shops across the road. Excellent breakfast.
Great place to stay for 3 nights in Chatel. Very reasonable with good breakfast. Very friendly. Always had the hot tub, sauna and steam room to myself, so felt very spoilt! Stayed end of March 2024.
Very cute and cozy with a central location. Very friendly and helpful manager. We really enjoyed our stay and thought is was a great value for a hotel that accommodates families.
Rooms were very comfortable and nicely decorated. The sauna was super after a day of skiing. Breakfast was plentiful and varied and the restaurant in the evening was excellent.
Really great location, the staff were very helpful, the room hotel and spa were really nice, always clean. Not too busy! Really relaxing atmosphere. Would highly recommend
This is a budget hotel and you get what you pay for. Parking outside. Ski bus pick up outside property. 8 minutes walk uphill into town which has great restaurants.
Friendly welcome, charming building, clean and comfortable room, great sunny location close to the centre of Châtel with an amazing view down Val d’Abondance
Free day busses to lifts and cheap bus travel to other areas. Good ski runs and not crowded at the time we stayed. Good choice of ski hire and easy access.
Great location with Ski bus stop right outside. Restaurant and Bar superb and fantastic staff. Skyfall the Flat coat retriever was the star of the Hotel.
