A very picturesque town right on the water. However most restaurants were closed in February, the shops were closed on Monday and there was very little to do except take the ferry to Isola Pescatore and Isola Madre. After travelling further around the Lake I would stay next time at Arona. Much busier little town with lots of restaurants and shops open. As well as being on the Lake.

Proximity to the lake was excellent.
Proximity to the lake was excellent. Majority of restaurants very good, some pricier than others of course but several with sensible prices. The food on the whole was excellent and plenty of it. The owners of the restaurants and their staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. the fish featured prominently on all the menus and was excellent and fresh.

Not very much to do historically - BUT wonderful for restaurants, ice cream shops, views of the lake. A really good centre for a holiday on Lake Maggiore. Great to be able to go from there by boat to the islands very conveniently. There is also a railway station which is very handy.

The people are really friendly and not at all pushy.
The people are really friendly and not at all pushy. It feels peaceful and happy. All of the food we had was excellent. The ice cream is amazing, the tiramisu I had even had sponge in it (not all the outlets do have this). The boat trips are very good and run on time. We did the three island trip and loved it. Also there is a Cliff side monastery Santa Christina (may have spelt that wrong) it’s had a varied life but is in use now and is well worth the trip.
We stayed in Locanda Verbena only 1 night on our way to Stresa and the lake Maggiore.
The room was very clean, the bathroom had all facilities, the bed was very comfy and the sheets so clean despite it is not a hotel. A typical Italian "locanda" with its local charm and a restaurant downstairs.
The host was a very polite lady who spoke perfect English :). She served a nice Italian breakfast and tried to respond to all our requests and needs. I would recommend the place for its price and cleanliness.
We were completely blown away by this incredibly beautiful hotel. Breakfast was extensive, with lovely tables overlooking the lago, wonderful pools and spa/wellness center in glass pavillion is brand new and included in your stay, staff is perfect, we cannot find enough nice things to say. Our family plans to return as often as possible for a truly relaxing experience - not to mention the very cute town of Stresa.
This lovely vintage hotel is well maintained, nicely located in Stresa, and has exceptional service. Sylvia checked us in, providing gracious and professional help to ensure we had everything for a comfortable stay. Every hotel employee, the bartender, wait staff and cleaning crew were all excellent. it was so enjoyable to have a lake view balcony with our room so we could have a drink and enjoy the scenery.
Breakfast was outstanding, the location close to the ferry to the Islands is great. The staff was very helpful and allowed us to freshen up and store our bags as we arrived early in the morning. We also left very early in the morning our last day and they accommodated our breakfast even before the hotel breakfast opened. It is about a 10 minute walk to the train station, and 15 mins to Stresa city center.
Room was absolutely incredible!!! Room 603 with a full wrap around balcony! Never seen anything like it - and Lake Maggiore was beautiful! Perfect location, too. Staff very attentive, Sky Bar great with gorgeous views and furniture. We will return one day to this hotel. It was fantastic. Thanks to David for his warm welcome on our arrival, too.
The hotel, service, facilities, food and staff were all exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble. Hotel La Palma is in a wonderful location right on the lake with stunning views from the rooftop lounge. We wish we'd had longer and will definitely be back.
Thank you to everyone for making it such a memorable 4 day break. We'll be back.
Very nice view of Lake Maggiore and the Borromean Islands, hotel located on the heights of Stresa, accessible by car or on foot for good walkers, very clean and comfortable, quiet, beautiful terrace and garden overlooking the lake, good sweet savory breakfast, welcoming and accommodating staff
Very nice little house, big garden/yard area shared with a large villa. Moderately equipped kitchen (fancy looking but otherwise bad coffee machine), the house has a balcony. Possible to work from there as they have 2 separate rooms. Close to the train station and the center of Stresa.
Great place to stop on Stresa on a bike tour of Northern Italy. Dario is very kind - he found us a safe spot for our bikes, and allowed us to wash some clothes. Inside the accommodation there's everything you need to prepare some picnic food and enjoy the views of the lake!
Extremely friendly and helpful staff - across the board. Full service hotel- with a smile. Centrally located just across the street from Lake Maggiore. Close to all the cafes, restaurants, bars and shops. Secure covered hotel parking just a 5-minute walk from the hotel.
Everything.A second visit proved all our great recollections of this hotel were true. The setting is incomprable, the hotel staff are warm and helpful, the rooms are very comfortable and the restaurant and service are top grade. We hope to return another time.
Nice family-run hotel, not pretentious, but you have everything you need for a wonderful stay in the area, and nice and helpful staff as a bonus. It is very close to the main square of Stresa, but facing a quiet street, so no noise is coming in
Fabulous hotel ideally placed in Stresa. Beautiful decor particularly the Murano glass chandeliers, stunning. All the staff were so friendly and helpful, going out of their way to assist. Excellent breakfast, great range of buffet style foods.
Good quality/value ratio
Simple and clean hotel. Do not expect something fancy.
A good place to stay for a sleep, everything you need in the bathroom is there, A/C works perfectly.
A cheap option to stay on Stresa, 2 min from the lake.
Very clean friendly hotel with great staff. Nice breakfast and very welcome pool. Near to ferry for islands and a pleasant walk into main part of stresa.
