How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

It's too far away from any place, but it's still a bit expensive. The room didn't provide tooth brush, tooth paste, and liquid body wash. Those are the places I was not satisfied with..
The natural environment around is good.

The thermostat/heater combo didn't seem to work in tandem with each other. The room was chilly when we entered, and adjusting the room controls didn't seem to trigger the heat, although the under the window heater worked fine.
This was a perfect one-night stay while I was in town visiting family in the area, walkable to food options, outdoor scenery, and any needs we might have.

you can hear neighbors from both sides. other than that - no complaints, everything worked as expected and since there are not many option in Empire in winter - this is an okay one

Requested that the room be made up and it was not. The house keeping staff would sometimes replace the towels but there was no actual cleaning. The floor was not vacuumed the tub was not cleaned and the beds were never made.
The location was nice. The room was spacious

Couldn’t locate the ice machine but that was quite minor.
Location to Lake Michigan, Empire Trail & Sleeping Bear National Lake Shore was perfect. Drove there for the Sleeping Bear Marathon. Went to Point Betsie Lighthouse during my stay.

Nothing comes to mind.
Staff was great. I asked for early check in so I could get the keys prior to heading to Crystal Mountain Resort for a wedding that would go late. While they couldn't guarantee anything, they told me they would call when the room was ready which would likely be early enough for my needs. They gave us a call when we were about 2 hours away and check in was quick and painless!

Most expensive room I stayed at during our trip including Sagatuck and Mears which was right on Silver lake. Proximity to Sleeping Bear dunes is the reason why we stayed at this hotel.
Near Sleeping Bear Dunes. The Dunes visitor center is located right next door. Entrance to beach and restaurant near the “hotel” is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Cute town. Gas station also located next to hotel.

Nothing since we enjoyed having a separate entrance and didnt miss having a lobby.
Loved the location because you can walk to the beach for a perfect sunset and can walk to restaurants. Very clean with comfortable bed and good shower. Has microwave and fridge also. Great place!

It would be nice to have a breakfast option , as not many options available around the hotel.

No staff on-site. Key left in a dropbox, which worked fine but seemed unusual. TV was Spectrum cable but was not in Hi Def which I didn't even know existed.
Spacious comfortable room, huge bathroom. Comfortable King bed. Quiet. Clean.

There was no courtyard as advertised on the website - the courtyard consisted of 2 small metal tables and 4 chairs placed in the parking lot on the handicapped spaces.
This inn had no amenities like a pool or breakfast. We received more coffee. The desk personnel was very friendly. Inn was clean and a good value for the price.

Location, location, location!! 5-10 mins close to everything we wanted to see in the area - Sleeping Bear Dunes and Glenn Haven Beach. Walking distance to local food places.The room was very clean and the hotel was charming and had what we needed for our stay. It was a little pricey for the accommodations but worth every penny for how easy it was to go and enjoy the amazing attractions in the area.
