Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

The location is on the tip of Stonetown. Beautiful views of the Indian Ocean, boats coming in and out of the port and other islands. The staff were wonderful. Our room was gorgeous with a big wraparound porch and hammock.

New ZealandThe beds are very old wooden bases with a hard mattress. Rooms are very tidy but could do with a freshen up and a brighten up. Restaurant food for breakfast and other meals was very hit and miss. Not.consistent. like butter and jams bought to the table quite sometime after your toast had been done. Shell in the omelettes. Then lunch ( club sandwich and chips) was lovely one day, then soggy the next. The one dinner we had there was ok but veges were all cold by the time it reached our table. The restaurant and the beds really let the place down. Also we used the hotel to organize a day trip up to Kendwa, but the driver couldn't speak much English, so was not a great day, and very expensive. Then you had to pay to even get onto the beach. Also expensive.
The hotel is in a great spot. Our room had a wrap around balcony looking over the pool on one side and the sea on the other.

United StatesThe staff were extremely accommodating. Unfortunately I was not well and I needed assistance. The staff escorted me to DR, Spa. They were there with a smile on their face. I also had a 90 minute massage that took away all my aches and pains.

United KingdomWe had a tour around the hotel by Johanes it was so good. We asked at the last minute for the tour it was free and nothing was a problem. The 19th-century old Extelcoms building and the 18th-century "Chinese doctor's residence". He explained in detail about the interior and exterior and it was very interesting. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

United StatesEverything was grand.
The staff is most welcoming and smiles every time you walk by. The rooms are nice with a dish of fruit. The breakfast has many choices and they aim to please. The restaurant food is wonderful! The hotel has a lot of Arabic accents and the pool and grounds are well kept. You can walk right into Stonetown. The hotel is right on the beach. I would stay here many times over.

United StatesI would especially like to thank Mister Kurwa Uledi, one of the managers - he is one of the best people I've ever met. Asante sana! We had a small issue with the room, and he immediately fixed it, and checked in on us regularly to make sure everything was okay. Outstanding customer service! Most probably the best location you can stay in while visiting Stone Town. 100% recommend. Just book it!

South AfricaThe room was smaller than I expected, but having said that it was comfortable, very clean with lovely things like the fruit basket and complimentary wine on arrival (which we didn't drink...but was a lovely touch regardless).
Really liked it's location. We were right on the beach and easily able to walk to the Old Fort and the food market. Great location. Interior decor very much Zanzibar feel, ornate, intricate and beautiful. We also enjoyed our meals (the best food we had in Zanzibar). We had beef biryani, a penne pasta, a beef burger. Totally yummy! They were also quick to organise breakfast boxes for us and transport given that we had an early morning flight. The welcome drinks were divine and the staff were very friendly and polite.

United KingdomThis a lovely old world fell hotel, situated directly on the waterfront with a small beach. It is also very close for all walks around Stone Town. It has been beautifully renovated We had a large front sea facing room with a large balcony which was perfect for relaxing. The staff are so friendly and helpful and made us really feel at home. The restaurant serves lovely food on a terrace over looking the beach Plenty of restaurants and bars nearby. Trips can be arranged via the helpful front desk staff.
