Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United Arab EmiratesI completely understand it is a boutique hotel and I absolutely love the place, but I would prefer having some sort of television in the room or better wifi connection as we were unable to even download videos.
The restaurant on the rooftop was simply amazing. Fresh food being cooked to order and the perfect portion size. The hotel is just 5 mins walk from the beach near stone town, so very easy to access (which is only by foot from the main road). Perfect hotel to stay at to complete the stone town walking tour and visit Prison Island.

AustraliaI think the hotel is better suited to a younger, trendier clientele. I was unable to use the pool as when we got back in the afternoons from daily activities, they were having their sunset sessions with no one allowed in the pool, then afterwards when I tried to swim they had already put in chemicals. This however is a minor complaint.
The boutique vibe of the hotel was great, views stunning, staff super helpful, especially Benjamin who was wonderful.

FinlandRoom could have been a bit more spacious for the price they have. Ask for balcony room in the corner, they are the best!
Upendo House is a beautiful little gem in Stone Town. Rooms are not big but stylishly decorated and you have everything you need. You find a small pool with amazing views and a nice bar on the rooftop and there’s also a spa. Absolutely could choice to spend some nights in Stone Town.

United Arab EmiratesThe rooms are pretty small - dont know if that is a Stone Town thing and then I got a balcony view room but it didnt really show anything. Also, full length mirrors are very important for people on holiday.
I feel like the space is beautifully decorated and the rooftop restaurant as well as the bar with rooftop pool is a nice touch.

DenmarkThe only thing we missed was a door to separate bedroom from bathroom- but that might be a matter of taste and need for privacy. Other than that - nothing to wish for!
It is a little gem inside of Stone Town. Very close to all “must see” attractions and the staff was really kind to us. The facilities were great and it was well taken care of. So were we as guests. Highly recommend!

United StatesThe only drawbacks of the hotel are the walls are very thin so you can hear everything happening around you and the Wi-Fi was very slow so it was difficult to work if you're on a business trip or have video calls.
The staff were excellent and very attentive. They went above and beyond. The hotel was very centrally located, modern, and has a great rooftop. The daily made to order breakfast was yummy.

South AfricaI think it is quite overpriced. I also think that a popular place like it, should have speed points which allow clients to use the tapping function.
The rooms were clean, the pool and the view of the city were beautiful.

United KingdomThe soundproofing between rooms is a little less than expected but equally didn’t disturb me. It was mainly just through the door onto the corridor but there are only 4 rooms to each floor so isn’t a huge problem.
The hotel is super central so you have stone town on your doorstep. The staff are so accommodating and friendly and also made sure I was safe as a solo female traveller. The rooms are clean, cosy and I felt very comfortable. The restaurant serves brilliant food and the rooftop bar is gorgeous too.
