How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

We were unlucky with the double room, it was the only one without a window so it was very stuffy when the electricity got cut off during the night. They put us in the dormitory upon request for the second night though!
Great location, very clean, lovely staff, comfortable beds in dormitory!

The hostel has a perfect location, the rooms and the toilets are very clean. Very helpful and friendly staff with some extra services that might be useful for the stay in Zanzibar (with good prices). Extra plus: free drinkable water!

We made a deal about transport to airport with 35000 tzs and when came time to go airport, it was 40000. But i think it was misunderstanding ans the ride was good.
Good place for that price. Small room with double bed and good aircondition. Clean nice place.

The shared kitchen is clean and tidy, but there was only one teaspoon and 2 sharp knives. There is a nice, cold fridge .There's no place for hanging so you'll need to use a laundry service. A balcony or rooftop would be nice, as the interior does get warm outside the bedroom.
Lovely staff in an old house in the centre of historical Stone Town. The house is well maintained, and my dorm room was air-conditioned with a fan as well. Beds are comfortable, and there's a little drawer in the cupboard for storing valuables.

The stairs to get to your room are so steep they're almost a ladder. I have an injured wrist and struggled not being able to grip the hand rails with both hands, so I can't imagine how difficult it may be for someone with a leg injury, no matter how minor.
The staff were so friendly and knowledgeable, they went above and beyond to answer any questions that we had. The aircon in our bedroom worked well and the room was comfortable. Location is fantastic and we rarely needed to walk more than three minutes to get anywhere.

The price of the laundry is very expensive!!! Maybe a common area apart from the kitchen at the top floor would have been nice.

Toilets were very small but that's the only thing I could complain about
Awesome hostel, the best we've been in Tanzania. Everything clean, great price and amazing helpful staff at the reception <3 We came back after our safari for another night, they were so nice to store our big backpacks for 2 nights when we were away. Top!

Staff was super helpful and they can always give you recommendations or arrange any tours you need. Great location, super close to the Old Fort and just next to Jane's Corner

I noticed that the bathroom and kitchen was not in the cleanest condition. It was evident that due to the large number of people using the facility, cleaning it twice a day should be necessary.

Had to use artificial lights for the room the whole day otherwise it would be dark.
Loved how clean the rooms were. The staff were welcoming too.

The dorm room door was a bit loud opening and closing so you could get disturbed by others in the night.
The dorm room was clean with comfortable beds and a/c. The staff were great. Location is right in the heart of Stone Town.

The shower on the 3rd floor only had cold water. I also didn’t like that the shower and toilet were in the same room.
The hostel is located right in the heart of Stonetown. I had a very small private room (with shared bathroom) but overall, it was of a good value for the affordable price I paid. The communal kitchen with a big fridge was very useful and the staff were very kind and helpful. I highly recommend this hostel for those looking for a cheap and decent accommodation.

We had cockroach on room but I guess it's old stone town and cockroaches are everywhere.. Otherwise good
