Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomMosquitoes were a real issues in the dining area (that also has a relaxing area) and the ‘chill’ zone. Bring repellant. the hotel could consider mosquito coils at meal times. Notably, Wi-Fi is only available in public areas. One point to note is that any card payment, debit or credit, incurs a 5% surcharge. Airport shuttle is a little expensive at $40, but there is little option.
Whilst there are a number of little things that could be done to improve the experience, it is certainly somewhere I’d consider coming back to. It is about 30 -40 minutes from Stone Town, the last ten minutes on a dirt track, but sign posted from the main road (if you are in a taxi/Uber). This last bit can get muddy in wet season. The restaurant view is of a creek and boat workshop, but the beach and pool view is idyllic - the photos on booking dot com are accurate. The staff are very attentive and proud of the establishment. Food is simple but well prepared and tasty, they ask you to order at leat an hour ahead. There is no alternative restaurant close by. Breakfast (included) is a buffet with eggs to order, perfectly adequate. The room was basic but very clean, well protected from mosquitos (with nets on the beds and windows) and plenty of power points. The bathroom was surprisingly modern and very clean. The shower is outside with a privacy screen, plenty of hot water if you remember to turn it on. Each cabin s sufficiently isolated and surrounded by vegetation so that privacy is guaranteed , although the are ‘semi detached’ - we had no neighbours during our stay. If travelling as a family this means you can effectively have adjoining rooms. Rooms are air conditioned and quiet. Noting that Mangrove Lodge is significantly cheaper than a lot of other hotels/resorts on the island, it is certainly worth consideration

United Arab EmiratesLove the place it was in the middle of the forest then open to a very clean and clear beach. The place was very quiet. The staff were so friendly and very welcoming i felt like staying with a family. It’s a very good choice for solo, couples and families as well. The only problem we had that when the electricity shutdown happened there was a delay in connecting the generator power, despite this is a very common problem in Zanzibar. And one more thing regarding the road to the hotel was not a proper road it takes forever to go in and out. But overall i will come again to this resort. Hope my comment helps you.

IndiaLack of WiFi in the rooms. Road leading to it from the main road. Rest I can live with.
Location was great. Breakfast is so-so, not much options. WiFi is only in 2 locations and not in rooms. That is not acceptable in today's world. The approach road is horrible. But once you enter the property, it a different world and nice.

NetherlandsThere were some great people among the staff. Super helpful and always checking in, to see how you are. Great place to relax, enjoy wonderful view of the beach and go on day trips. Cabins were comfortable (but don't expect too much of the beds) and outdoor shower was a great feature. I had a perfext, relaxing stay at Mangrove Lodge.

United StatesThe road to the property is long, windy, and an absolute mess. It was so difficult to traverse by vehicle or by foot, we limited the number of times we left the resort.
Lush surroundings, comfortable beds, good food, and incredibly warm and helpful staff. While the resort itself is peaceful and private, the beach is a playground for local children. Seeing them and interacting with them was a treat!!

South AfricaLocation is quite difficult to get to, however this gives it its charm. Very frustrating that the card machine didn't work on checkout. I noticed another guest had the same struggle. I was basically forced to pay cash which was an inconvenience and almost delayed me in catching my ferry. The ocean is lovely but not practical to swim on this part of the island.
Service was friendly. Food was amazing. Nice pool and very quiet place. The nature is brilliant and feels disconnected to the rest of Zanzibar which was nice!

United KingdomNowhere in the description does it say that there are steps to everywhere, so it's not suitable for anyone infirm . I am lucky enough to have travelled with family, but having recently had a 2nd hip replacement, I would have had real trouble if I had travelled alone.
It was idyllic, very beautiful. The staff were lovely. The food, though limited, was very good

United Kingdomwe were shouted at by the locals on the beach purely because I was a woman swimming in the sea, they crowded round us until we got of the beach which was very uncomfortable. This was very upsetting and sad as a woman should be able to swim in the sea peacefully without being intimidated. - however this was not the hotels problem.
Perfect for nature lovers, their is so much wildlife amongst the bungalows and its amazing to see and hear. The food was really good. the bungalows were very clean and peaceful with lots of space. the outdoor showers were also very nice and the staff were very helpful.

SwitzerlandFood at restaurant was expensive for what it was, bathroom and toilet in the bungalow were very calcareous and low pressure, taxi/pick-up was expensive (but we didn't use it as the guy never showed up and no consideration from owner). Better to find a way on our own (and cheaper) to move around.
Calm, inspiring, very natural and green, great and diverse breakfast, free teas and coffees all day, some nice staff members as well, well decorated, cute cats and dogs

South AfricaFood was overpriced and they never had a lot of what was offered on the menu. Would be lovely to offer more light snacks for lunch. We asked if they could make a cheese sandwich for a child who was not feeling great which was not possible even though bread and cheese were included in the breakfast buffet. The manager/owner was around but never greeted a soul and spent all his time on his phone.
The rooms are gardens were lovely. We were met by a wonderful young gentleman who showed us around, the biggest asset, staff wise, we found on the property.
