Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SwedenNothing The bedsheets did not smell good but it wasn’t a major problem. Note that the apartment has steep stairs.
The location was great, right in the middle of Stonetown. It’s very practical, especially if you don’t have a lot of time to see Stonetown. The room had AC and a fan that both worked. Overall the place looked as expected and we had no issues. (We had the room with private bathroom).

FinlandUpon arrival, you must be able to call on the phone to get inside/find the apartment. Our room was double booked through Booking and Airbnb, so it took almost an hour to find out and get a room. The toilet and shower were in separate spaces outside the room, although they were private, so you had to go through the common space to get to them.
The room and common areas were clean and the location was great. The shower water pressure was good.

GermanyHost was very nice the night we arrived, but the next day he was stressing / pressuring us out of nowhere via texts to come out and make the payment right that instant, because „he wanted to leave the house now“ - we haven‘t agreed on a time or anything but he made us feel like we made him wait for us all morning. We stayed for three nights so there was really no reason for the rush. The A/C sometimes just blew air without cooling it for a while, usually it was fine but one time it got quite warm before it started cooling again. Also, there was no remote, only a switch to turn it on and off, and it was set to 17 degrees. So we woke up a few times every night to turn it off because it got too cold, and later on again because it got warm. This issue could be fixed so easily, so I don‘t understand why they don‘t get a new remote. As many other reviews said, one bedroom has an en-suite bathroom, and the other (ours) is outside of the room. This isn‘t a major issue by itself, apart from the fact that it‘s not clearly indicated on booking which (bath)room you‘re going to get. Also, the A/Cs are only in the bedrooms, so the outside bathroom gets very warm, like the common area / the kitchen. Lastly, we had one almost empty roll of toilet paper in our bathroom with no spare roll, and it was not even replaced after it was empty during the whole time we were there. Thankfully, we also had our own paper with us.
Nicely decorated room, comfortable bed (mattress a little hard for one of us, perfect for the other one), two pillows per person, A/C was working most of the time, no power outages, fully equipped kitchen with fridge, microwave, water boiler, stove, etc., free drinking water, in the center of Stone Town and close to the Night Market.

FranceVery well located in the city center. The hotel owner helped us book a taxi from airport and then to next destination. The place is basic but has everything you need, especially if you like to have a kitchen to boil water, cook something, have a breakfast. The place is clean, someone comes everyday to check. To be noted that one room has its own bathroom and shower inside the room while the other one has it outside the room.

BangladeshThe place has two rooms and only one has an attached bath and toilette. The other room has separate bath and shower for which one has to walk through the common living area. The place was empty but the owner refused to allow me a late check out for only two hours, though I am a level 3 Booking dot com user. The guy also has no POS and charges extra if paid through POS, refuses to accept dollars, bills in Tanzanian Schilling, while converting dollar to Schilling converts in higher price but in POS converts dollar in lower rate so he takes more money. He actually took 20% extra by this.
