Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IrelandCan be a little loud in the night/early mornings but that’s to be expected pretty much everywhere in stone town
We were on elective in the hospital and it was the perfect location but also only 5 minutes walking from town and all the restaurants/beaches. Basic rooms but great communal areas and a nice place to meet people. Always somebody on the door and the cleaning staff were great ! Felt very safe here. Gorgeous rooftops to chill out on also

FinlandThere was some mold in the roof of our room, the smell was bad and the airquality was not good. Also room was pretty noisy cause there is busy road next to the place.
Common spaces were very nice and pretty, balcony was lovely. Location was good and near to everything important. Price was cheap so that's also really good!

United KingdomRoom was in between main communal space and traffic-facing balcony with door that didn't close so often disturbed by sounds of people/traffic. One of showers also didn't work.
Great communal area and lots of cool balcony areas to chill on. Great room size with desk and great location near old town of Stone Town.

SlovakiaThe bed was not really comfortable.
Very good location. Everything is close a good bakery in front of the building. The host was perfect- friendly, helpful. We even got our room 2 hours before check in time, and we were free to stay in the common areas after check out. We even did a tour to nakupenda and prison island through the hotel (very good) and he arranged a taxi to the airport. Everything was clean, the toilets also. Very good terraces on the each side of the building. Overall a superb experience. I definitely recommend the stay to everyone.

United KingdomLovely old style house in Stone Town, the manager Said is very helpful and organised transport for us at a good price. There's a kitchen and shared social areas so this would be a good place to stay for a few days for a solo traveller.

SloveniaFor my need of rest at that time it was just a bit to loud from the city street.
I really loved the place because it had so many layers & the top roof has a very nice view of the ocean. There's also many places to just sit & relax & maybe chat a bit if you're in the mood. There's also a possibility to use the washing machine which is awesome. I also loved the simplicity of the room, the bed was big & comfy. You also get very welcomed & taken care off.

United StatesThe WiFi was not so good, I guess that's how Africa is.
The building is old and charming, very tall ceilings, the location is fantastic, close to everything, our room has the sea view, with a huge balcony on top, large room, great large common area and kitchen, free tea and coffee, laundry, the $5 breakfast was superb 👌👍 They let us leave the packs at the lobby because our flight arrived early, and they offered to use the common facilities while we wait for our afternoon flight after we checked out on the last day. Overall great stay! Thank you Balcony House 👌👍👍

United KingdomNothing.
It is an unexpected property, up a lot of stairs which gets you to the lovely roof terraces. My room was on the highest of these. Very simple but a gorgeous sea view and the terrace is fab for sitting late at night. I had an early flight so didn't use the facilities such as the kitchen and fridge, and the communal areas which are huge. I would definitely stay here next time in Stone Town.

FranceUnfortunately there was no breakfast because the person in charge of the morning service was ill.
Great location, large room, friendly owner and staff. It was easy to find when arriving. The rooftop terrace is perfect for chilling and the "hidden" room with a colonial style balcony is an extra plus for romantic travellers.

GermanyBalcony House is a great hostel in the mid of Stonetown, nicely furnished rooms, cool chill zones, balconies and terraces. We loved it! Very good price for what you get, intereseting and communicative hosts, friendly staff. You should not be too delicate concerning noise, as Kenyatta road is small but frequented and sound isolation of the rooms not too good. We did not mind given the overall charme of the place, felt at home and (partly) slept well ;))) Recommend to go for it!

UgandaWe had a great stay at the Balcony House, they are really family friendly and made our 4 year old feel welcome and safe. Saidi on the front desk was very helpful and kind, we enjoyed his friendly chilled manner. The location was great with a bakery opposite and a short walk to all tourist attractions as well as a nice little water side cafe with affordable food. We felt very at home and want to stay back here at the end of our trip!
