Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThere were very few things at Totoco that I didn’t appreciate. The location is truly beautiful, but if you are getting around on foot and seek to walk into the town of Balgüe frequently, for dinner, etc., you will have quite an uphill hike of 20-30 minutes where returning. So be prepared to get a little extra workout in, which I tried to view as a positive. The only other thing was that there was motorized construction of the hotel’s outdoor yoga studio directly next to the pool from morning until past sunset. This made hanging out in that area less than relaxing. Again I tried to see the positive : that they are creating something nice for future guests, and it kept me more active off the grounds during the day rather than just lounging by the pool. Hopefully by the time you read this and would be staying here, you will have both a yoga studio and a more peaceful lounge area waiting for you.
The location of, and view from, Totoco is absolutely beautiful. The facilities are clean and mostly ecologically minded. My cabin was spacious, comfortable and felt private. A very good value overall. Nice simple pool with the amazing view. The restaurant was comfortable and pleasant, the included breakfast wonderful and dinner was excellent too. What I want to give the biggest shout out to is the staff. Everyone was wonderful. Tania was so helpful at check-in and with helping with a scooter reservation, and providing other information. Miguel was also super helpful, both with setting me up at my cabin, and when I had a problem; he is really a good trustworthy person who is interested in helping the guests. And I want to give a huge shout-out to Kerwing - he may be the best waiter I have ever had anywhere in the world - super friendly, attentive, personable, humorous, made not only dining there a pleasure but also just to hang out in the common area. He was also incredibly helpful when I had a problem. The reputation of Totoco seems to be built around the location and being eco-friendly, but this amazing staff of people were what made the experience the best for me. And because they were from Ometepe, they made me love the island itself even more. Por lo tanto, muchas gracias nuevamente al personal de Totoco por ser tan maravilloso.

GermanyThe breakfast and dinner menu is absolutely great and had a unique variety of local Nicaraguan and Western dishes. The pool and the cabins are very quiet and offer amazing views of Conception Volcano and sunsets. Very close to the lodge, it is possible to start a hike to the top of Maderas volcano.

Costa RicaBecause of the natural material of the roof, there is a lot of dust. We felt very itchy. The stuff is very friendly, but everything takes very long. When you order something to eat, the drink comes after they serve the food. Very small and badly maintained pool. We didn’t want to use it.
The beautiful view!!!!

United KingdomCan get very hot and there is no AC. Some construction work near by the pool took away from the serene/ natural environment.
Great location with a fantastic view and wonderful sounds of nature all around. It is like a glamping experience. The rooms are very spacious and the outdoor showers nice. It was great to have a pool to swim in, although it is not as big as it looks like in the pictures. Great food and cocktails too! The team was great and made sure we had the best of times here. They were very helpful and helped us organize transportation from Managua airport to Ometepe which was excellent. They also make their own honey which was delicious!

United KingdomWould be really helpful if there was a ‘safe’ list of the insects and bugs you might encounter - lots of amazing creatures, but not being local it’s difficult to tell which are dangerous or not! Expensive to get from the local village Balgue back to the hotel (12 USD one way) - would be great if the hotel had an included/cheap shuttle
Staff were great, food at the hotel was good - especially the local honey! The staff were more than happy to organise taxis (which are generally expensive on Ometepe regardless) for you. The pool has incredible views of the volcano, and the main lodge was incredibly relaxing with a well stocked and reasonably priced bar

United StatesI didn't like the bed and the fact that we only had one fan in the room. I also really disliked the walk to our cabin. It was dark and the path was not lit.
I lived the outdoor shower and the view.

United KingdomNew mosquito nets would be appreciated. I have seen lots of previous reviews complaining about bugs & the steep road up - there is no way you would get the beautiful scenery and peace of the eco lodge without these, you're on a volcano in Nicaragua, enjoy it!!
The most beautiful view of sunset from the bar/ restaurant area or your own balcony. The hammock by the cabaña was perfect for relaxing. We loved the outdoor shower. The breakfast was tasty and lots of choice. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Easy to book tours/ rent ATV from reception (company will bring an ATV up to the lodge for you). The sounds of the birds and howler monkeys around the Cabanas.

United StatesThe only complaint I have was the construction going on nearby but I understand they can’t do anything about the noise.
Definitely a highlight of my trip to Nicaragua was staying at Totoco. I originally planned to do a full day of exploring my first day on Ometepe but when I arrived at Totoco I just wanted to spend the whole day relaxing in my bungalow, eating the delicious fresh cooked meals, and lounging by the amazing pool with the spectacular view of the volcano! I also loved the compost toilets, having my own hammock, and the open air shower. Everything was lovely and a great escape from the hustle and bustle of life. Don’t hesitate and just book the stay at Totoco, you won’t regret it.

United StatesThe road up was a little bumpy, but nothing our car could not handle. Main negative was the lack air in the room, there are no fans so it was hot at night time even with windows open.
Location was absolutely beautiful. It has amazing views of the volcano. You are surrounded by beautiful plants and flowers. There is a lot of restaurants in the area. Many of our activities were on the side of the island

GermanyAs it is an Eco Lodge in the middle of nature we had a few bugs in the bungalow - no problem as we had Moskito nets. Also I am fine with a compost toilet but unfortunately it did smell quite a bit, and as everything was open air, the whole bungalow seemed to smell. Also I think there are a view things that could use a little maintaining/updating. But still we would always come back.
I can’t imagine a more stunning view on Ometepe. We had a bungalow with view of the Volcano from the bed in a lodge style bungalow. The bathroom is open air and you can shower also with this view. Amazing! The food in the restaurant was really great and the staff was super friendly and helpful.

United StatesOverall we really enjoyed our stay, but there are some aspects that would be helpful to point out. 1. The road up to the hotel is very steep and it was challenging on a motorbike even though we are very experienced riders. It is not as easy to come and go for meals out or other activities. 2. You need to be aware that you are gonna be in the jungle with all the living things. The bungalows are really nice, but bugs can get in. Thankfully the mosquito nets on the bed are really good. If you are really afraid of bugs this might not be the best spot for you. 3. Unfortunately the pool was broken and unusable the whole time we stayed there. This was frustrating since we booked it solely for the pool and to spend all day relaxing there. They were able to offer a discount on our stay which we appreciated.
The views here are amazing! From the lobby/restaurant area to the pool and private decks of our bungalow there was always a great view of the volcano. The staff were also very nice. The bungalows are really cool, we stayed in Nim and had a great patio with hammock and view. Also, the food was really good and great options for the free breakfast.
