Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThere is not much else around and it is only accessible by dirt road. If you want to explore Popoyo town then hiring a car or motorbike is recommended because the town is a 15min drive away.
Located only a 10min walk away from the secluded Popoyo surf break, it’s a great place to stay for surfers. The rooms are clean, well presented, have air conditioning and hot water. The pool area is well maintained and a relaxing environment with hammocks surrounded by nice gardens. The restaurant serves good food for a reasonable price. The staff are always very friendly and helpful. You can hire surfboards and the staff assist with organising taxi drivers when required. We would definitely recommend staying at nicawaves.

United StatesWe had a car so this was fine with us, but the main part of Popoyo would be a very long walk if you didn’t.

NicaraguaThere were electricity blackout like 3 times only lasting a 1 min. So no big issue. Unfortunately, a few minutes before leaving, there was no potable water but that’s ok ‘cause it was the end of my trip.
I liked the place overall. They have different spaces to chill: Bar, sofas, outdoor tables, the pool and hammocks. Staff was kind and helpful. And the room was just like in the pictures.

CanadaThey need to get a sign off the main road as its not well marked and hard to find the place.
The location is great only a short walking distance to Popoyo beach. The food at the restaurant is really good with great daily specials and a great selection for breakfast.

New ZealandThe food on site is unfortunately quite expensive for budget backpackers. Luckily we had a scooter and went elsewhere for food as there isn’t anything else around close. It would have been nice if we were given some information on the area, surf breaks etc upon check in. We were told by other guests about having access via Finca Popoyo, the staff didn’t mention this to us.
We were upgraded which was lovely! The room was big and the AC was fantastic in the heat. The shower was hot which we loved! The location is great - if you let the people at Finca Popoyo know you’re from Nicawaves they let you use their beach access which is fantastic. The pool area is super nice to hang around. The hammocks are bliss.

FrancePrices are ok at the restaurant. However, we did get billes almost $2 for refilling our bottle of water but it’s ok. We did find weird spots in our beds and a t-shirt underneath one, but I mean, it’s a relatively cheap hôtel and we only stayed for one night so we let it pass.
The location is quite nice. It would seem to be a bit in the middle of nowhere, but it’s very calm and the beach is close by foot. The staff was very nice. I would like to make a honorable mention to Karen Acevedo, who was exceptionally sweet and did all she could to help us!

GermanyIt is a bit further from the beach, if you don’t have a car or motorbike, the walks to the beach or restaurants can get annoying, especially at night.
Great place to stay if you fancy a pool and good food. Ensure to get one of the better, larger rooms. The staff was kind and helpful. We loved the food and the prices for drinks and food are fine. The pool area is lovely and you can hang out there the whole day. Beds are comfortable.

CanadaIt's a rip off to pay $1.50 for a cup of coffee. I've never had to pay for coffee, even in crap motels in the USA. Not only that, the cup size is like a demi-tasse There is no beach access from this property. The pool area is very nice but Popoyo is a beach town.
The rooms are large and spacious; most comfortable bed that we had while in Nica. The room also had a fridge which was great for us because we had water bottles with us. The pool area is nice and there are lots of places to rest in a hammock or lounge by the pool.
