Unfortunately it was 36° when we were there and the fan was not effective. The rooms are metal shipping containers and very basic. They are not comfortable in intense heat. The double bed was also a bit small.

Great location and incredibly lovely, very helpful, accommodating staff. Big, shady roof terrace with breeze and hammocks. Useful info provided about local area and taxis. Well equipped kitchen.

Very friendly staff from the moment we booked. The check-in process was easy and we felt welcomed the entire time. The beach is very close to the property and doesn't get a lot of people, which makes this paradise to just stay and chill.

Nothing we didnt like. We would just suggest a few more tables and chairs for guests. Also, a curtain separating the bedroom and toilet.

We had a wonderful stay here. After we booked, we were sent a message with lots of information and help for our stay so that we came prepared and new what to expect (Bring food as there are no grocery shops here). The owner Faith is super lovely and welcoming. Good kitchen and clean facilities. We would stay again :)

One thing we would say is that casa maya is a 20 minute drive out of town, however the hosts very kindly offer guests lifts if they are going into town. It also makes the place a lot cooler and quieter, making for some of the bests sleeps we’ve had whilst travelling!!!

What didn’t we like would be the easier question to answer!!! We initially came to Casa Maya for a week, and then decided to come back a couple weeks later for an extended 2 weeks!! As hosts, James and Faith made our experience absolutely exceptional- we can honestly say that Casa Maya was a home away from home, and we easily could’ve stayed for up to if not over a month! Since we are both surfers, there is almost nothing that could’ve made our experience more convenient- casa maya had outdoor showers, places to store boards, and was just a 30 second walk away from the beach, which had good quality board rentals and beachfront bars and restaurants. To top this, El Romanso was easily the BEST beach in SJDS when it comes to both surfing and good vibes- a conclusion we made after renting a car to explore other beaches! To top this, there were much less mosquitos in comparison to other beaches in Central America. Very rarely do you find affordable accommodation at such high quality, which is why we HIGHLY recommend visiting if you are in the area- we would just love to be back!!

The location was very close to the beach but you are so far out of town that it might be hard to get food to cook. You can eat at the beach (thats pretty expensive) and also buy a few basics from the host.

The hosts just started this hotel, they were open for comments and tips and we're really trying. The rooms were really beautiful and there is great water pressure under the shower. You're so close to the beach that you can be there in 3 min.

The only negative thing worth mentioning is that it is remote so not a lot of facilities nearby, however you are in the middle of the nature nearby a beautiful beach so you can not complain about that one. They offer grocery delivery aswell to tackle this problem.

U definitely need to rent a bike because the downtown is about 20 mins by car\bike. Taxi prices to the city would cost almost the bike price for the whole day.

there was no door in the bathroom in our privat room. it was no big deal but good to know.

We liked the location of the hostel. Its not on the main beach of San Juan del sur but on a beach thats even more beautiful. Its the perfect place for surf beginner. we liked our room and the shared kitchen had everything you need. we also liked Faith and James as hosts. The communication was very easy and they gave us a lot of information. we can really recommend this hostel and would stay there again.

as smoker, too strict on smoking rules but understandable and as personal opinion, I’d put a curtain on the toilet door. just more privacy.

Lovely eco-place immersed in the natura, only few meters from beach, surf rental and bars. was amazing to ear all kind of birds, waves crushing and sometimes monkeys in the morning. just loved it. nice shared kitchen and dining tables. big spacious rooms which stay cool without need of AC. we used fan couple of times. private bathroom. James and Faith are doing an amazing job looking after the place and making it very welcoming.

The bed was probably the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in! We lost out on 3 nights of sleep because of the bed. I had back pain as the bed was so hard. It would be nice if the front (garden) area was cleaned up a little so people could hang out in the evenings. Needs doors or at least a curtain on the bathroom! Also just be aware that a $100 deposit is required but is voided by the property once you leave. There is additional costs if you want to check in early or check out later which I have never come across before and I think this is a little extreme considering the property doesn't have a lot to offer apart from WiFi and a small kitchen. No supermarket close by. The closest one is in San Juan Del Sur which is 20 minutes away in a car/shuttle.

This location was great if you want to escape the craziness of San Juan Del Sur. There's a nice beach right beside the property which is great if you're learning to surf. The beach is quiet and chilled. Faith and James were lovely hosts. Really nice people and lovely to talk to. It was really quiet too which is what we were looking for.

At this price, add a curtain a the dorms window, mosquitos net and propers fans. And seriously, 100usd security deposit for 1 night in a dorm is too much.
