Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

FranceEverything was great
The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The activity guide (Sinoun) and the yoga teacher were impressively kind. The villas are perfect in every detail and the food is great. To go we did not use the hotel boat service. It was a big mistake. The way back with the resort boat was much more enjoyable

United KingdomAlthough so lovely it felt a little soulless. The staff were lovely BUT it all felt a little contrived. Given that the hotel was empty as the manager I would have made the effort to go and talk to guests and see see what they thought of everything and if anything could be done to improve the place. I thought the food prices were higher than anywhere else I had been (including the Six Senses on Krabey island) and unjustified. Maybe offering service on the beach would also be a good idea. I think it just lacked the magic it could have and should have given its location.
The beach was beautiful and the beachfront room spacious and welcoming. Breakfast was a solid good. And sunsets fantastic.

HungaryWe spent here our honeymoon in a villa with pool. The Royal Sands Koh Rong was our Earth paradise. We have never seen such a wonderful environment like this. It was stunning, amazing like a dream which became reality! This place is the perfect location of absolut relaxing. We felt like we were the only one of the beach, it was totally unique. The beach with white sand was incdeible beautiful. The architectural view of the villas were understatedly elegant. The interior atmosphere of the villa was excellent with local materials and simplicity. The pool was enjoyable and cozy. The villa was well equipped, always clean. The staff was really friendly, helpful, kind and smiley. In the spa we felt like we were in the heaven. We had the best balinesen massage ever!! The western and asian menu of the Royal Sands Koh Rong were incredibly delicious with a professional staff. The breakfasts were colorful and tasty. It was easy and fast to rent a motorbike and go around the island. The village was just 15 minutes motor ride from the resort. The amazing sunset was a daily program with delicious coctails. We highly recommend Royal Sands Koh Rong!

IsraelBe warned to take a anti sickness tablet for the boat journey , it can be a little rough .The Vila could have had a desk or a table added , the fact that you get only 1 key and have to use it to operated the air conditioning meant that you come to a boiling and extremely uncomfortable heat, for the cost you pay to stay in the the resort , they should allow you to decide if you want to keep the Vila air conditioned on in readiness for you. The resort could also have had free shuttle to the nearest Village, to help the locals benefit from the tourists and to stop the feeling of being completely isolated from everywhere. The cost of a one way tuktuk was double at $15 each way if you book from the hotel . The spa treatments were far too expensive for Cambodia , they could do with including free water sports into the resort. Perhaps some loan board games etc.. Finally Cambodia could do with re education in cleanliness they should stop throwing rubbish everywhere , perhaps this should start at their schools . All you need is to walk out of a resort or a hotel and it is like visiting a rubbish dump .
Great luxury resort , loved the sea , sunsets and everything in between . Outside shower was my husband’s preferred shower room . Amazing white sand .

GermanyThe sandflies… they killed us. Kind of ruined it a bit. Because after that we didn’t step foot onto the beach anymore. We are still suffering so much from the bites. We were also staying on the other side of the island and we didn’t get any sandfly bites there… that hotel was turning over the sand with a tractor daily… which obviously is also annoying to hear while you’re at the beach. But honestly rather have that then these bites 😅 Maybe there is more you guys can do in order to get ride of them 😭
Super friendly and accommodating staff Great breakfast and good food overall Had the best massage/ also very nice Spa Very nice room. The bathroom was amazing / so massive! Also got a private pool which was fantastic Beach is definitely one of the nicest I’ve ever been on Hotel Pool is also massive and close to the beach and great with getting drinks / happy hour

AustraliaCons -The power would intermittently drop out. It generally will come back on within the hour as they do have back up generators, but it can be frustrating because it also means the WiFi, water pressure and AC drops out. -The rotten wood decking. The resort is slowly replacing the wood with treated wood. However twice my partners foot broke through the deck in the outdoor shower. Make sure you tread very carefully in your outdoor shower because you could seriously injure yourself. The resort staff make you aware of this and to their credit the maintenance staff come out and fix it in no time but for the price you pay for a room, they need to consider alternate flooring for the safety of guests. I would recommend getting rid of the wood altogether in the outdoor showers and replacing it with grass, flat stone pathway/shower floor and plants like many other outdoor tropical bathrooms in resorts do. Then your only maintenance is caring for the plants and grass. It also would make it look very attractive. -The marine waste. We went on a snorkelling trip and while it was nice and our guide Savy was wonderful, you can see how bad the rubbish and marine waste problem is. This isn't the resorts fault but a general issue in SEA countries. The coral beds are strewn with marine waste (nets) and other rubbish. I counted over 30+ fishing boats surrounding the island which I'm sure contributes to this. We may be spoilt coming from Australia and having the most pristine reefs in the world, but the resorts on Koh Rong should consider collaborating with marine conservation/clean up groups to protect their reefs. -Privacy. The outdoor areas for the rooms afford little privacy from other villas and the walkways. I recommend for the resort to put up some bamboo screening so you can at least use the pools or relax on your deck without worrying about people looking at you. -Boat transfer times. Website says 9.30am.
We loved our stay at The Royal Sands. Looking at the less than 5 star reviews here on trip advisor I can tell that the resort has put in considerable effort to improve their services. Visiting in late 2023 you will notice that they have taken peoples feedback seriously since 2017. Pros: -The waiting lounge in Sihanoukville was lovely. We were apprehensive about our wait in Sihanoukville because of what we have read online and from comments from Khmer people, but the Royal Sands have a lovely check in lounge with cold complimentary drinks, AC and very comfortable seating. - The boat ride over was fine and on arrival we had a group of staff waving and waiting to greet us all which is always a nice experience. -The check in at the resort was great and very informative. We received details about the resort and some of the ways they have tackled the sandy fly problem which leads to the next point. -The sandfly problem has been dealt with fantastically. Our room had complimentary DEET repellent but we also brought our own tropical grade repellent. The staff use a tractor daily to rake the sand for rubbish and sandfly eggs and the staff spray the resort twice a week. We had absolutely no bites and thus were able to enjoy lying on the beach lounges with no issues. Well done Royal Sands for combating this issue so effectively. -We asked for a complimentary upgrade which they organised. We ended up in a beach front pool villa which was stunning. The room is large, the pool is beautiful and the view of the ocean is magnificent. -Koh Rong has a big issue with rubbish, but we found very minimal rubbish on the resort beach. There is a kiosk with a bin on the beach so do the environment a favour and if you see something pick it up and put it in the trash. -The kiosk has beach towels which makes lounging on the beach easy and enjoyable. - The breakfast and food at the restaurants is lovely. They've addressed a lot of the price and comfort concerns.

GermanyNothing to critisize.
We stayed one whole week at the Royal Sands and it was simply amazing! After the busy cities of Siem Reap and Phnom Penh this was the perfect place to relax. The Villa was perfectly clean with a lot of space. The breakfast had a huge variety (especially for western guests!). It really looks like a place out of paradise. The ocean is so so clean and they have the best setups for sunsets (including cocktail happy hour :) ) But the best thing was the staff: Everyone was exceptionally friendly and helpful - and always with a smile. We really felt at home there and were sad that we had to leave eventually. Also special shoutout to our guide Savy: We had so much fun going snorkling, fishing and driving with the banana boat! :)

IndiaBreakfast could have a few more options. As someone who doesn’t eat beef or pork, I felt the available options were too limited.
Loved absolutely everything about the property! We booked a sea side villa with private pool and this was the best experience we have had till date. It was my wife’s birthday and they were able to arrange us a lovely table right on the beach with an amazing meal. The staff was super friendly and made the stay even more enjoyable.
