Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Sensational setting in a game park on a hillside with long views across Kenya. Lovely old building. Plentiful good quality food. Lovely staff. Super relaxing.

ColombiaThe rooms where very poorly maintained and dirty. Front desk people aren’t friendly at all. The drinks at the bar are very poor and food was just ok.
The outside is beautiful, the gardens and the animals that roam around. Beautiful setting!

KenyaDon't use the fireplace in your room! The room attendant had lit the fire pit in the fireplace for us in the evening, but shut all doors, chimney wasn't properly working. The room had no ventilation slits in the walls. We came after dinner and weren't able to access room for 45 minutes because of thick heavy smoke. (Smoke detector in ceiling didn't work.) We tried to ventilate the room but eventually had to request night manager to allocate another room which we obtained within ten minutes. Unfortunately, all our travel clothes for the onward trip stank like smoked trout and we weren't off any laundry assistance
10 points for the beautiful landscape and location! Stunning scenery, beautiful garden with tame peacocks, herds of antilopes passing by morning and evening. Food countryside style and fairly decent. Checkin staff and some restaurant team were very friendly and helpful. Horseback riding available in conservancy next door. Nice outdoor pool, a bit chilly though. Property a bit challenging for the walking impared, ask for nearby room - do mention any requirements when booking.

Czech Republic- wifi almost not working (and not at all in the rooms) - the game drive was a little overpriced considering that we were guests in the hotel - price generally a little higher than it could be - many different staff were asking us all the time if we are doing good and don’t need anything (like everyone passing in 5 minutes around us would ask) which was a little annoying and simply too much (and I would recommend not to do it so that people can enjoy themselves and order when they want or finish their drink) but overall everyone was friendly and nice - not much info available prior to your arrival so it was necessary to communicate via email to understand how it works and how to get there and what is available for us. Would be better if there is already a package information available - prices of the accommodation are actually cheaper via Booking than when you try to organize directly with the hotel. I do not understand why it is not the same and I perceived it very weird, that it made me doubt the choice of the place at first. Which is a pity because it is a really great place to visit.
- very nice environement and a great place to visit - colder mountainious place that is refreshing - many activities that you can organize for additional prices with the staff who will be happy to help you - you can see wildlife wondering freely in the compound or opposite hills which is awesome - comfortable and well arranged rooms, cleaness - I loved the option of making a fire in our own fireplace in the room during the evening/night which we used and it was an amazing experience, especially during Christmas time to have the atmosphere and be warmer

SwedenSome of the reception staff were not service minded and it looked like I bothered them when I came and asked them something. The food/buffet was way below expectations considerung the cost of the stay. I got the feeling that Aberdare Country Club has become very fat and happy because of all the tour companies that send their clients there.
The room was excellent and most of the staff were as service minded as you could expect.

KenyaThe reservations, check in process. THe reservations messed up our booking, a very unhelpful man called Paul who dint even apologise. THe check in process was made worse by rude front desk staff. 2 ladies who were completely tone deaf. Rooms need upgrading. still very old 80's/90s, Buffet set up very limited and standard meals. No consideration for children and toddlers. The kids club especially during the holidays was not up to par, no supervision, no structure or fun activities for the kids.
The gardens, general structure and hotel and views truly make Aberdare country club beautiful and it has not changed as i have been here before many times, as far back as when i was a child. (80's Born, so do the math).... BUT

United KingdomVery disappointed that the pool was out of action and that this was not mentioned. We were appalled at the state of the tennis courts, still had a knock about but not possible to play properly. I do hope that they are next for renovation, such a bonus if they were.
The location is stunning. Views of Mt Kenya and giraffe from the bedroom window. Also wildlife roaming around the grounds. Having a fire in the evening was great fun. Bar area very comfortable and plenty of outside seating.

KenyaHistoric hotel that has maintained the allure of its past glory. Well situated within nature (you are literally in the midst of the antelopes, zebras, giraffes and engulfed by sounds of birds) and with the most amazing sweeping views of the Aberdare plains. You also get to visit "the Ark", their sister location in the Aberdare Game Reserve, at no extra cost!
