we booked our stay including breakfast, unfortunately it was not very clear what was and what wasn't included in breakfast. So when checking out, we received a bill that exceeded our expectations... If we would've known that for every extra (such as a little pot of guacamole or 3 strips of bacon, a glass of fruit juice instead of coffee, etc) you need to pay extra (this would be up to 25q per item). It would've been nice to be informed about this, just to avoid any unpleasant surprises. Other than that we had a good time at this hotel.

No A/C in the room. However surprisingly this wasn’t a problem as the room is really well designed with great ventilation so the fans are enough.

- Food was delicious! - Staff very helpful! They recommended El Boquerón to us which we hadn’t heard about and absolutely loved it. I left a pair of swimwear behind after checking out and they kindly sent it to Rio Dulce Travel office for me to collect. - Location. There’s lots of great hotels/hostels/eco lodges along Rio Dulce, but Tortugal was perfect because there’s access to the main road where you can then go to the hot waterfall or Boquerón and also into Rio Dulce easily.

Within five minutes of placing a call we were whisked off to this charming riverside location. Our pleasant host, welcomed us and showed us to our well appointed room. Special thanks to Angie who was really helpful. The breakfast was first class as was the service. I just wish we had the time to stay longer.

No a/c but we knew this before we booked. Beds could be slightly firmer.

The rooms are very clean, spacious and sealed from jungle critters! Our bathroom was lovely and the showers were piping hot. We were able to walk into town and a boat was also available if needed. We took advantage of the free kayaks and saw lots of wildlife in the local area. We thoroughly enjoyed our complimentary breakfast everyday and enjoyed a couple of dinners there too, the food was excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful and supported us with the next leg of our trip. A wonderful stay!

Very nice place. We loved it. The restaurant food is awesome. It closes at 7pm though… but after a full day in rio Dulce, it is very fine to have dinner early. We loved the jumping platform with our kid.

Fantastic remote location, only accessible by boat. Very easy communication via WhatsApp to organize for a pick up. We stayed in what can best be described as charming jungle lodge, loved it! So much character. We also enjoyed our nature walk ... Breakfast/dinner place is very charming, lovely food and very good value for money. Helpful staff that speak English. We loved our stay. Would highly recommend it.

Beautiful natural design that compliments the jungle and lakeside setting. Lovely staff. Arrived in torrential rain and was taken straight to my room for a hot shower and they kindly dried my clothes for me. Angela who runs Tortugal was very caring when I was suffering with epilepsy related symptoms. I felt tired and confused and she helped me plan a little walk that wouldn’t overwhelm me. Food was great too.

A great location in Rio Dulce as it’s close to the town but away from traffic noise . The manager was extremely helpful and efficient at arrangements to connect with onward travel. The bungalows are cute and the facilities include a good restaurant.

We had to say goodbye

Everything at Tortugal is exceptional from the love you receive from everyone who works there and docks their boats (you truly are treated like family) to the views and location of Tortugal the phenomenal food and beautiful rooms. We didn't want to leave this little slice of paradise. You can walk the property, swim, kayak, read, meet other travelers, and we will always be grateful for Angela. My SA mum :).

Everything. The rooms are so unique, the restaurant facing the river, an excellent quality of food, free access to kayaks, and the staff’s attention. We got our deserved relaxed days in the best part of the jungle. I totally recommend trying the coconut pie, it was amazing!
