Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesApril in Antigua did get hot, and the air machine was ineffective in cooling the room. Taking showers to cool down as well as leaving our door open for air circulation was helpful to help ourselves feel comfortable. Perhaps this is not a Mestizo hotel thing but a Guatemala thing - AC or fans are not part of hotel accommodations.
The staff is exceptional: Cristofer, Evelyn, Uber, Marvin, William et al. The place is beautiful, classy, and just overall comfy. Breakfast selection was delectable, and staff was so helpful to provide breakfast after breakfast hours - after we returned from our am hiking or walking tours. Mestizo through Cristofer was already servicing my stay way before I arrived, by taking care of my transportation needs, and any and all inquiries I had throughout our stay.

Definitely our best stay in Guatemala. The staff was exceptionally accommodating and hospitable. We also got to meet the owner as well, who was very welcoming. The hotel room itself was very clean and the beds were very comfortable. They also have their signature scent, which smells amazing. I wish I had bought some products at their shop before I left. We would definitely stay here again.

United StatesThe “SAFE” to keep valuables is not anchored, it can be easily lifted and removed (aka: disappear). Given that I had visited Antigua in the past and know that Guatemalan coffee is fantastic, I was disappointed on my 1st day. The coffee was very water down. The next day the manager suggested a cappuccino. That was stronger and good ! The transition from the “day /evening” staff to night shift staff appeared to be off. Initially I requested a 2nd floor and the manager knew but somehow the night staff gave me the first floor. The rooms smell great but there is an automatic “mister” in both the bathroom and bedroom that is very strong. It’s a great scent but it’s not always welcoming to everyone. High scents can cause allergies. I had to request that it be turned off. I paid for a taxi in advance and asked for it to be there at midnight. To be honest, I do not think the taxi was reserved. The staff on duty at that time told me it would take 5 minutes for a taxi to arrive. After 5 minutes, I inquired where is the taxi ? The response was it was now 15 -20 minutes away. The end result is that the taxi arrived 50 minutes later than initial time of booking. Let’s just say this caused alot of stress, given that it’s a 50 minute drive to the airport and not a good way to end the trip. This could have been avoided.
The location and staff are great ! It is 2 minute walk from the square and easy walking distance to the key restaurants. Across the street is great speakeasy bar. The hotel is clean, the beds are comfortable and there is plenty of toiletries. In addition, the Manager Bryan was very accommodating when I extended my stay by an extra day.

United StatesAn employee by the name I believe to be Don Roberto (not quite sure) the evening person on duty. One evening during my stay I went out to dinner with some friends, upon my return to hotel Don Roberto began a conversation with me of which I thought nothing of it as he seemed to be courteous and respectful. He asked me to have a seat in one of the benches in the lobby at which he sat next to me and continued talking about his personal life. I began to feel very uncomfortable as at this time the front door of hotel had been locked for the evening. Not wanting to be rude I continued listening to him, but then he grabbed my hand and had the awe to want to kiss me and asked me to be his girlfriend. At this time guests who were coming back to the hotel started knocking on the door to be let in at which time I made my way back to my room. The next evening, I didn't go anywhere and stayed in my room all night as I didn't want to see this man again. The following day was my check out and I gave the complaint to Brian. I travel all over the world and have never encountered such awful situation. I am a widowed woman who is very courteous, formal, educated and friendly person, but not for this man to disrespect me and misinterpret my friendliness and kindness. I was very offended by this man's actions as this was a total audacity and disrespect on his part. I assure you this situation is totally unacceptable and one that I have never encountered in any of my travels. I loved staying at Mestizo's but I am very reluctant to go back again because of this terrible experience. I hope some measures are taken in order for this situation to never happen again. Thank you.
I truly enjoyed the entire hotel and staff. Staff went out of their way to make me feel welcomed especially Brian. The managers were very polite and hospitable. I did have one bad experience during my stay with an employee during the evening watch. I will elaborate in more detail below. Overall excellent stay.

United KingdomThe room had a window into the courtyard which was noisy early and late. The stand alone AC meant the window had to stay open (or no AC) which made it louder still. The room was decent enough other than this.

The hotel is just amazing. Small but beautiful, and with a lot of attention to detail. We loved it. The house has many spaces that are a pleasure to visit and the owners just a pleasure to deal with. It is also centrally located with plenty of "Antigua" around. We loved it.

United StatesWell, I would normally talk about the few shortcomings found everywhere, honestly, there were none!
I have stayed at many fine hotels, but this raises the bar far beyond any expectations. The hotel is unfathomably beautiful with art and decor that accentuates the old stone walls and the tile floors. The terrace has a breathtaking view of two volcanoes, one which irrupt every five or ten minutes. . The staff were helpful, friendly, and professional. And, they have the rare quality of making us feel special. her last evening, we asked to have dinner. We arrived at the appointed time to find a table in a courtyard with candles and rose petals, leading up to the table and spoon across the table. The food was amazing the special cocktail they prepared with ground, pumpkin seeds and rum , what is the revelation? I have never been so spoiled.
