Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe staff were excellent, they had recommendations of what to do around Antigua, the option of either traditional breakfast or pancakes and fruit (both delicious). Rosa does a great job at keeping the place clean with daily housekeeping. The owner was super friendly and had great stories. Also the owner has a small personal gym set up (dip bar, pull up bar, rings, weights) that he let us use which was great! Was about 10-15 minutes walk to the centre. Safe area. They create a very homely feel! Would highly recommend!

United Stateslocation was a healthy walk from downtown. The shuttle driver showed up almost 30 minutes late, and traffic to Guatemala city was very heavy and we missed a flight, costing us double for an in country flight. Not the hotel's fault but it was their suggested shuttle driver. Yes, it was unusually busy due to Holy Week, but the shuttle driver should have calculated how to pick us up on time.
Nice balcony, friendly staff. Comfortable rooms.

United KingdomI highly recommend staying here for a few reasons - the view from the roof terrace where you can have your breakfast from is amazing, the hotel is about a 15mins walk from the centre meaning that it is a peaceful location, good room size, finally and most importantly, the host Irving goes above and beyond to make sure you're comfortable in your stay, in planning transfers, sharing recommendations etc and all his recommendations are fairly priced. Thank you. There was also good WiFi connection throughout the areas I used in the property - ground floor and terrace.

The lovation was beautiful. Seeing the volcanos in the morning when having breakfast was amazing. The room was small but that was ok. The room was clean. The location was away from the tourist area so the place feels like being in a local barrio which was good and felt like a real area where people live.

South AfricaLocation a little out of town which makes it quiet and private, but shuttles and tours don’t collect from here.
Beautiful property, very safe and secure, great value for money. Rooms large, clean and neat. Easy check in process with good communication. Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff - they even called an embassy for us to talk in Spanish when we needed assistance. Would definitely return.

PolandVery nice home-style room, in a house with rooftop with amazing view. There is a desk in a room so it's comfortable to work remotely. The host and madam Rosa are very kind people. Madam Rosa makes delicious breakfasts and cleans the places very thoroughly. Would love to come back one day.

United KingdomIrving could have been more forthcoming with useful information and help guests. When I booked a taxi from the airport it turned out another couple were on same flight but we had to take 2 different taxis. Irving knew this and could have provided one taxi instead of making us pay separately. Also nowhere to put / hang clothes in the rooms was annoying.
Rosa and her smiling face and delicious desayuno! Great view from terrace. Relaxed homely feel.

South AfricaWonderful little hotel with friendly, caring staff and a lovely rooftop terrace to enjoy breakfast. Maison Bougainvillea is a great place to stay. The owner, Irving, was a wealth of knowledge with some top recommendations for things to do, eat, and see. It is very quiet at night. The breakfasts, a choice between traditional and pancakes and fruit, were delicious. And although it seems like it is situated outside of the center, Antigua is small. We walked from Maison Bougainvillea to the open market on the other side of town in 25 minutes. If you want to save your legs, Uber X is the same price as the Tuk-Tuks, and WAY more comfortable on the cobblestones.

PortugalIrving was super helpful. The place is clean and cosy. The house is a 10min walk into the centre which I enjoyed because it can get busy and noisy in the centre of the town. Hot water pressure not so strong but it's the norm from where I have been so far in Guatemala.

United StatesThe mattress was quite hard and uncomfortable. This is the ONLY thing we didn't like.
The staff is excellent. The location is a quick walk from the center of town. The breakfast choices are excellent (especially the traditional) and Rosa should be named employee of the year. The owner (Irving) is a great guy with lots of information about the surrounding areas and beyond. His English is perfect.

United StatesThere is one dog, who I assume is the neighbors who likes to bark randomly throughout the night. The building itself echoes a bit so if other guests are loud in the common areas it’s easy to hear. Neither of these things falls on the property, more just a heads up to light sleepers.
The property is outside of the busy city center. However, not too far to make it difficult. A nice morning walk will get you directly into el centro. The roof terrace is a wonderful place to start your day. The included breakfast is delicious. Irving and Rosa continuously make you feel at home. I felt welcomed immediately.
