United StatesOnly one small niggle. In a completely empty breakfast room being told I couldn't sit at any of the empty tables near the window, because they were all reserved for a party of tourists who would be arriving in around three hours!
Very nice welcome from a cheery lady and my room was upgraded. It was all very comfortable indeed. There is plenty of parking behind and in front of the hotel. Breakfast was great and had to be ordered the night before. But great options.

A wonderful place to stay as long as you don't mind driving. It was semi centrally located to most sites you may want to visit while in Orkney. The staff was excellent and extremely helpful. Breakfast was delicious and prepared to order. The restaurant offered a nice variety of meals for dinner as well as beer, wine, and cocktails. The tv room/lounge was always available if you wanted somewhere to unwind. The staff was also kind enough to allow me to stay there a couple of hours after checkout while awaiting my ferry. I highly recommend this hotel.

United StatesThe bed headboard appeared to be a little soiled and the bed cover seemed to be near the end of its useful life.
We had a tire that was leaking air. They had a friend who has a car repair business on their personal property - that person identified a small leak on the tire sidewall, so the tire would need to be replaced. The Smithfield then called around and found a shop that had our tire size and they make an appointment for us to get the tire replaced. This was amazing because the local tire shops were slammed with business and somehow, they got us an appointment quickly. The staff at this hotel went above and beyond to help us with our tire problem and we are extremely grateful for that! Breakfast and dinner were very good!

United KingdomDounby is not picturesque but the location is good for the ancient sites. The best thing about the hotel was its excellent restaurant. I ate there three nights running and would happily return to eat more. I recommend all the sea food, especially the crab chowder.

The hotel was comfortable and cozy. Our room had everything we needed, was tastefully decorated and very clean. The staff was very accommodating both in the pub and the hotel. We arrived to town in the evening and had trouble finding anywhere to eat in Kirkwall, due to multiple cruise ships being in port. The hotel was able to accommodate us in their restaurant on short notice even during a massive rush. The food was wonderful in the restaurant and for breakfast! I would recommend you order the scallops. They were amazing! Would highly recommend this hotel!

The staff were all very welcoming and friendly, but not intrusive. There if you needed them and always helpful. Location was perfect. Quiet village away fom the busyness of the big towns. The bedroom was homely - not like a generic, bland hotel room. Bathroom was perfect, with a really good shower. Good selection of foods for breakfast, with generous portions. A lovely sitting room made a relaxing place to chat to other guests.
