Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United Kingdomcan't think of anything
My Husband had difficulty climbing stairs and we were moved to a ground floor bedroom as soon as one became available. All the meal that we had were top quality and nothing was too much trouble if we needed it.

United Arab EmiratesA bit worn down. Didn't have an elevator. We had to carry my parents luggage up and down the stairs. Staff are great, but things can go a bit slow during the shift transition.
Decent english breakfast and dining area with sunlight coming in during the morning. Helpful and polite staff. Reception staff, Steve, was friendly and gave great local tips.

United KingdomThe fact that there was no food being served other than breakfast on a Sunday meant I wasn't able to get a meal on Sunday. I was only able to get my breakfast. I don't drive so I wasn't able to venture anywhere closer and there aren't any takeaways that I was able to order to be delivered to the hotel. Bit of a shame and maybe some consideration to have the restaurant open on a Sunday for people in a similar situation.
Location wasn't too far from the stations, about a 20 minute drive. The size of the rooms were great!

United KingdomThere were no staff to man the bar. A sign on the bar said ask at reception for service, another guest asked at reception if there was someone to serve and was told a straight 'no' without any explanation.

United KingdomIf I was being picky the room wasn't spotlessly clean but it was acceptably clean as the beds, toilet, washbasin and bath were clean. Just could have done with a cloth/duster around the windows, door frames etc.
The staff were very friendly, welcoming and extremely helpful. The receptionists were very understanding about the situation I was in and kept my room available for me while I was unsure how long I would be staying for. The shower was excellent and the bed very comfortable. The breakfast was very good.

United KingdomIf breakfast is not included then what was available when I stayed was nowhere near worth the price of £15.99 for continental plus cooked breakfast. The evening meal was fine because it was convenient, but there are better places to eat. I asked if they did pancakes for breakfast but they did not and nor did they do porridge. I didn’t bother chancing my luck asking for an omelette. The pool is very small and usually used for lessons for children up until a certain time. Not worth taking your swimsuit.
The hotel is convenient and the room was large and reasonably priced. There are large, if empty, rooms downstairs where you can sit/eat and the grounds are attractive but pretty grounds are not what I would call a priority. The food I ate during the evening was nice enough but not top quality. I had a lasagne but didn’t bother with starter or dessert. I have stayed here many times but, when there’s a crowd, we invariably eat out in the evening. Personally I really dislike the new minimalist décor with different coloured tub chairs and melamine tables on a tiled floor. It may be easy to clean but it completely lacks any welcoming atmosphere and class.

United KingdomThe bar wasnt manned, the changing rooms for the pool was very dirty and there was a awful smell in them. The pool area and pool water was freezing. The breakfast wasnt great everything was cold. Not a great choice.
The room/hotel was spotless where you could see but when opening the bedside drawer there was rubbish in them, lynda on reception was brilliant and seemed to be the only member off staff we seen, she was very helpful and came and got us drinks on the bar despite it not being an area she would cover.

United KingdomNo real dislikes. Television remote needs replacing.
The Oriel is a very comfortable and friendly Hotel, the room was spacious, comfy and clean with all the facilities that you would expect in the room. Some of the fixtures and fittings were slightly dated but this did not affect the comfort. Breakfast had a decent selection along with the standard cooked fayre which was cooked to order. The evening meal was also very tasty and reasonably priced, although the restaurant / Bar area lacked atmosphere. I did not have the opportunity to try the leisure facilities.
