Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Great location and has a wonderful charm as it was a restored home that is very unique. We stayed in the family suite with a queen size bed plus two other twin beds. Very nice. The highlight is the lady at the front desk was so nice. She called us family.

United StatesWe loved everything!
I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. It is a former colonial home with large, beautiful rooms, a bright breakfast area with lots of beautiful plants, and the nicest and most helpful staff we’ve ever encountered. Karla was especially wonderful, explaining the history of the hotel and telling us about Ecuadorian history. She also explained the traditional breakfast items to us, which was very interesting. Byron answered all of my emails promptly and Juan stayed up late to welcome us after our middle of the night arrival. The shower was strong and the hot water was plentiful, the hotel and the rooms were immaculate. All of the staff we met were very kind and friendly. If you travel to Quito, stay here — you will be happy you did! We loved everything!

United StatesThank you for your kindness and helpfulness during our stay at Hotel La Basílica. The hotel and accommodations were wonderful. Our boys loved the loft bedroom. We had a similar room on a stay in Brussels years ago. They were happy to have a similar room. We wish we had longer to stay. We hope to return and spend more time in Quito and will stay at Hotel La Basilica when we do.

CanadaThe choice of breakfast is not too much.
The location is prefect and a couple blocks to all major historical sites. The hotel is traditional Andalusia Style. It has two beautiful central courtyards whit lush plants. Each room has very elegant wood painting hanging on the wall. Airport pickup service is provided too, which save lots of hassles.

CanadaI needed an early check in as I was arriving at 6 am from Canada on my own (my family was arriving the following day). I calculated that I would arrive around 8 am in the morning at the hotel. I asked the Admistration, Byron a few times what the earliest was that I could check in. He told me that I needed to book the night before (so an extra night), so another $165 USD for a few hours for myself. (Instead I stayed at a cute little hotel near the airport that had a 24 hour check in for $26.00.) When I arrived at the Basilica Hotel I saw a sign that said that an early check-in was available for $40.00.USD and that our room had NOT been ccupied the night before. So, I could have easily checked in early, which would have greatly facilitated me, but the Administrator did not give me this option unless I paid for a full nights accomodation. I don't think that for a hotel of this calibre that this is an appropriate service. Other than that Byron was very helpful and always prompt in his communications. Persoanlly, I'd love to have a kettle in the room, so I can make a cup of tea any time I like. That would be a nice touch for a classy hotel like this.
We had the family room. It was really quite beautiful and immaculately clean! The location was perfect for visiting the historical center by foot, with the Basilica on one side and the Grand Center Plaza (I don't know its exact name) and other great sites such as the Iglesia de la Compañía de Jesús (the golden church) on the other side. There were numerous very good restaurants in the area. The staff was very friendly and accomodating as well as helpful. Juan Carlos was very sweet and always had a smile on his face. :-) One of our party got food posioning the first night. And the manager was a nurse. She was very helpful and concerned, she told us which products to get from the pharmacy. The pick up from the airport was also very good, comfortable and the drivers were both pleasant. The cleaning staff were very friendly and did an excellent job! Overall the staff and the room were great!

United StatesI like it to be cold when I sleep, and could not get my room cooled down despite the cold outside temperature. There was a fan in the room, but it was loud and didn't help much.
A beautiful historic building close to all of the sites of the historic city center. Wonderful, helpful and caring staff. Good breakfast. Comfortable bed. Quiet due to thick walls and good doors. Small, locally owned boutique hotel.

United StatesWe stayed at Hotel La Basilica for 4 nights in October 2023. Hotel La Basilica is a charming boutique hotel in Quito. It is a beautifully decorated colonial stye building with covered interior courtyards. We found the staff helpful and the included breakfast excellent. To be noted, is the fact that only a couple of the rooms have outside windows. Most rooms have windows opening onto the courtyard walkways. Our room did not have a bathroom fan and for ventilation, we usually left our room door open which was not a problem as there wasn’t much traffic in the outside walkway. There was a provided fan for room air circulation. We were relocated after check-in because our initial room had an unpleasant sewer smell. We were reassured that that wasn’t a usual occurrence and in the reassigned room there was no unpleasant odor. Of note is that the hotel has a great location in the old historic district and easy walking to shops, restaurants, and sightseeing.

United KingdomAll fine - but make sure it is what you want. If you are after a sterile, modern, purpose built hotel, with soundproofed rooms and facilities, then not for you.
It is based in a traditional Spanish-colonial architecture house, with rooms around a courtyard. Beautifully set up rooms. Very well located in the historic centre of Quito area. The staff could not be more helpful, organising an early taxi to the airport when needed.
