Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ItalySmoking around the pool should not be allowed, why would a non-smoker be forced to smoke along with his impolite neighbors?! Internet was at times unstable. Towels by the pools were hardly available, as opening hours are never respected: quite a shame for such a beautiful place, please work on it!
Adults only.

SwedenSmall downside is that tha pools close at six in the evening. Also, the workforce, and especially room service, might be a little understaffed at times which might be something for management to look at because the staff are doing a great job so really deserve a great work environment without stress.
The hotel, rooms, and area was really nice. Great pool area with a bar in the middle and great drinks. Food was great by british standards, absolutely ok by everyone elses. The personell where all really nice and helpfull and we (me and my wife who visited for our honeymoon) especially want to mention the bartender Domingos, and Charlene at the reception, who really helped make our stay wonderful. All in all a really great stay and hope to come back soon! Oh, and if you afford to stay there you afford to tip because those €uros make a bigger difference in the workers pockets than in ours. If you go to Santa Maria and not only want to eat at tourist traps both Cam's, and Georges, are great little restaurants with a genuine feel. Available in the area we did a personal tour of the island with Union Tours (our guide was Rony Monteiro and he was great, just remember to bring a few extra euros for entrance fees), jetski (with really nice instructors down by Bar Marley, a really nice reagge bar at the beach), and the Ziplinecabovervde that was really fun and also offered some live local funana-music that was awesome!

United KingdomI think the location is good if you want to just stay in the resort. However, if you want to do a bit of exploring you can't really walk to the main town of Santa Maria and even if you do there isn't that much to do in the town. Sal does seem the place to just relax and chill by the pool/sea rather than explore.
The Melia Llana was fantastic, I loved that it was adult only and it was never too busy. The food was good, and as a coeliac (gluten free) you can ask the chef for different options which was great. There are two pools and we never struggled to get a sun bed. Overall the rooms were clean and comfortable and we had a lovely stay

United KingdomNothing!
The hotel provided a good range of meal options at every meal. I was very pleased with the vegan options which were always so tasty. Staff were always very welcoming and happy to help, particularly Daniel in the restaurant. I used the gym a few times and the machines were fine although there are limited options. It can get quite busy in there but still much better than many hotel gyms that i’ve used before. The drive to santa maria is about 10 minutes so not too bad and it costs €5.

SwitzerlandThis is the most poorly organised resort I have ever been to. It has a lot of potential in terms of infrastructure and location, but it is managed very badly. Almost every day we had some issues with the organisation of the hotel, from the room not being cleaned to the towel station being closed, from disappearing restaurant bookings to wrong food delivered at the table, from certain items being charged twice to water only sometimes available at the gym or in the mini bar. This hotel has clearly a lot of potential and could be amazing, but as it stands we will not recommend it to friends and family as every day is a struggle because of the poor organisation.
The location is really nice and the weather is pleasant even in December. Good food choices, even in terms of vegetarian dishes. Getting a swim up room was definitely worth it!

LuxembourgThe all-inclusive buffet, with its constant recycling of left over food from the day before into new dishes. It is much better to cook a restricted quantity of food and then when there is no more of one particular dish, refer the guests to other dishes. The all inclusive wines were hardly drinkable, so we recommend the local beer which was good. A summary, on paper, of the facilities and services of the hotel would have been helpful. The digital info by a QR code did not contain very much, which meant many trips to the reception to ask about various things. A street map of the nearby town would also have been helpful.
Helpfulness and friendliness of staff. The pools and the beach protected from the wind by two piers.

BelgiumThe facilities are very poor for a 5* hotel. We had an all-inclusive bracelet, but due to the employees strike we werent able to enjoy our stay - breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner were very limited in quantity, the bedrooms were not being cleaned, the beach towels were not changed, because the hotel was not able to offer proper solutions for the strike. I do not recommend Meliá hotels in Cabo Verde, unfortunately based on our experience.
The beach was great.
