I loved this place! Liana is just absolutely fantastic, she really cares about the place. Her and the women that work in the hotel / kitchen are amazing! They always make you feel welcome and are so sweet. Cute cats and vegetarian food is the cherry on top! Totally recommend!

Staying at Black Mamba was such a great choice! I was traveling with my mother and sister and we absolutely had the best time there. The owner and staff are so welcoming and warm, they made us feel right at home! Also, the food is great and the location is also a plus. It is close to Vale do Paul and very easy catch the colectivos to other parts of the island. We definitely recommend staying here.

The shower is not very warm or powerful. I ended up just using the sink in the end.

Great place with a lot of character. Room overlooking the ocean. Friendly, family vibe with the staff, owners, pets and other guests. The vibe is a bit like that of a backpackers' hostel except that you get your own room. Lots of character and cool fixtures and fittings and decoration.

An absolutely must when visiting Santo Antao. Beautiful hostel, with an amazing atmosphere, and Liana, who is the owner was amazing. From the food to advise about where to go and what to do. It was a great base to go hiking in the area, and we ended up staying for 5 days. Absolutely, wholeheartedly recommend to stay here!

This is not a criticism, it's a caveat: Black Mamba is a lively place in a real local neighborhood. Expect roosters in the morning, football matches on the dusty pitch in the evenings, neighbors chatting outside and the sound of the ocean to lull you to sleep at night. It may not be the best choice for someone who's looking for a very quiet respite or absolute privacy. I wasn't -- I wanted a place with soul. It has plenty.

Everything about this place is fantastic. Liana and her staff were charming and helpful, the food was delicious, beer was cold, the facilities are great, location is close to perfect and even the cat was pretty cool. I called it home for 3 nights and would have gladly stayed longer if I could have. They also accept credit cards for a small fee (convenient and not common in CV). You can walk to town in 5 minutes. Liana will suggest excellent hikes that are not commonly known, as well as good spots to eat and drink.

Liana is such an inspiration and is passionate about giving her guests the best experience of Santo Antao. Her hotel is welcoming, quirky, characterful and very comfortable. The food is home cooked and it was a joy to have such excellent vegetarian meals during our stay. Liana gave us great advice for a trek nearby which was absolutely amazing. The wifi is good for the island. Just know it is still difficult to be a digital nomad anywhere on Antao. Black Mamba staff did lots of tricks to make it the best they could!

Black Mamba deserves its high rating. Everything was great-the ambiance, the kindness and conviviality of the owner and the location. She was so helpful for planning a hike, making travel arrangements, making drinks. A bonus was housemade pasta and pizza. When I misplaced the key : (( she was most gracious.

Only thing is that there was quite some noise from the dogs and laughing guests when we tried to sleep. But we were only there for 1 night so wasn't a big problem.

The toilet discharge wouldn't always work

The room was really cosy with a good view of the neighbourhood. A lot of common areas to meet other people and work if necessary. It's super close to the ocean so you wake up listening to the waves :)

The shower (the actual shower head) wasn't great. The bathroom was only separated from the bedroom by a half height door.

great location for hiking all across northern and eastern and Santo Antao. Manager is lovely and has fantastic advice on where to go walking and how to plan days. also she went above and beyond to sort out things for the stay.

Liana and the staff made us feel so at home during our stay. They were helpful and created an environment where all the guests could get to know one another, especially over the delicious food and drinks in the restaurant. When I wasn’t feeling well one day, they went above and beyond to help me recover; it was like staying with family.
