Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe standard of the food on the dinner menu wasn't high. We understand, however, that this has a lot to do with supply of produce etc.
Location is superb. Staff were excellent. Nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was OK. We understand the challenges of supply for such a remote location. Dinner menus impressive - they changed each day and offered variety. Activities available were impressive. Enjoyed having bicycles available FOC to use around the resort as well as on the main island. Loved the cultural nights with wonderful dancing, great music and fire dancers.

AustraliaWe had a dead (smelly) gecko in our kitchen draw when we arrived - it meant we were not comfortable with the cleanliness of the cutlery etc. The heat in the kitchen / dining area in Room 11 is too much (only fans and no air con). The arrival and check-in process was a little painful in terms of being too drawn out. In fairness, we had better dinners at the Boat Shed than at the resort.
All of the staff were excellent - very friendly and professional. The location was superb.

AustraliaThe food could improve with more variety. A hot component within the breakfast package should be included.
The lagoon is spectacular and the resort is small that you feel like it’s only you at times in the resort. The staff really care and know everyone by name.

New ZealandReally well thought out resort. We enjoyed that every bungalow had a bike we could ride around, and water sports equipment readily available. The staff were lovely, and everything was clean & tidy. Absolutely loved our stay and wish we stayed longer!

AustraliaThere was nothing that we didn’t enjoy about our stay.
This stay was exceptional. The staff were extremely kind and helpful and did well at remembering your name and personalising your stay. The facilities were perfect and the resort was immaculate. The food was really good and there were good salad options, which was not as common in the Cook Islands as a whole. The staff did well to keep the spirits of the resort high, which snacks, cocktail hour, free cultural dances and crab races. We had a really lovely time and would definitely stay again!

AustraliaA music channel on TV would be great but not a big issue!
Our stay at Aitutaki Lagoon Private Island Resort exceeded all expectations! The overwater bungalow was truly a dream come true – easily the most amazing place we've ever stayed. Everything you could possibly need is provided, from bicycles to snorkeling gear, reef shoes, kayaks, paddleboards, and more, making it effortless to explore the breathtaking surroundings. A special shoutout to Wise, Luke, and Jerry for their exceptional hospitality and for ensuring our stay was nothing short of perfect. Our only regret? Not extending our stay for longer. Aitutaki Lagoon Private Island Resort is a slice of paradise that we can't wait to return to.

New ZealandStaff are amazing!!! They quickly learn your name, personable and know what service really is. Ille makes the BEST cocktails because she gets to know what you like!!! Thank you Jerry, Mere, Ille, Luke and the team! And having an out door shower that you can see the ocean from is an experience.

PortugalIncluded breakfast was okay but for the price I would have hoped the warm options and barista style coffee to be included but both had to be purchased extra
Dinner was always very good and the staff was super friendly and welcoming. The location was great. Views were great and you can go to uninhabited, lush islands via a short kayak ride across the lagoon. We preferred our Beach front bungalow to the deluxe bungalows. Views are nicer from the deluxe ones but the Beach front bungalows are more private.

United KingdomWe used the bikes and the clamp bolts used to adjust the seats on both bikes were ceased in place, so I could not tighten them up, so this made them difficult to adjust either upwards or downwards. were very loose . There were no small size beach shoes for my wife who has small feet, and those available were not in good condition.
The staff were all very engaging, happy, and delightful and always willing to provide excellent service at all times. There was a great feeling of a very happy team, who made our stay a very positive experience. The environment and paddle boards were great fun.

AustraliaThe only thing I could say was probably the pictures that reflected what our beach front would be from our room on the booking site to what it was fairly different.

GermanyCommunication and planning ahead of trip was unprofessional - by Joseph the alleged supervisor (not sure why he has that position). I got no answer regarding the two boat bookings (only upon insisting), and no useful help to book two different boat tours (minimum effort approach at best). I had to insist to get answers to my questions. There would never be even only the hint of an apology for the miscommunication. For 750 USD/night that is inappropriate. The boat tours worked out only once on the spot, when Ron helped me to find a different second boat tour. I was lucky that option was still available short notice. The alleged concierge website does not allow for registering the arrival and departure flight, which is not practical, and there is in total too many standard/repeating messages coming from the hotel. Not sure in light of all of this the 8 is actually merited.
The overwater bungalows are great, as well as location and food. Ron from the reception was exceptional - a true professional and great person who makes you feel at home and well taken care of, same with service by Mere. Overall, I would have given 10 points - if it had not been for pre-arrival communication.

New ZealandWe would have liked to have fresh towels after a day or two. We noticed some of the towels were just folded again but they were dirty (e.g makeup on them). We weren’t sure whether all the towels were just rehung/folded or just some.
