Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandFriendly, personal and accomodating team / staff. Able to rent vehicle / scooter directly at reasonable cost. The resort appears to have been recently tided up / partly renovated - everything works, it’s comfortable and on the beachfront. There are a couple of good cafes and restaurants close by. Good value - I would return tomorrow.

New ZealandThis is a superb spot. It is close to the airport, we got picked up and shown around. It has free kayaks, a nice pool, and it has safe swimming within metres of your door. It is very picturesque, the staff are fantastic, it has scooter hire, and it is a very short walk to the Blue Lagoon restaurant and bar.

New ZealandNot really a biggie, but just be aware if you want crystal clear water to snorkel in you need to go out on a boat to the reef. But having the scooters onsite helped immensely.
We loved the spot being right on the beach so we could swim and kayak out to see the turtles. The owners we VERY friendly and helpful with lots of ideas for eating, activities etc. The room was Very clean and well maintained and had all we needed, Loved the outdoor shower. Good value for money. Having the onsite scooter rentals was a definite bonus as well. Vodafone top up and Hotspot is available

FranceWe had a wonderfull time at Ranganuis retreats!! The accomodation was very clean, we stayed in a nice one bedroom unit with ensuit bathroom! With the turquoise water, white sand and coconut trees, this look like paradise! The location of the place is very good, close to Koru cafe and other good nice places to eat! The beach and the pool are great! You have kayak available for free! The hosts are very nice, very accomodating, he gave us a lot of tips for where to eat, go and what to do... He is also very helpfull for booking activities like cruises. He offers free transfers from the airport, and you can rent a scooter at the accomodation! We really liked it, so easy! You don't have to worry and just chill and enjoy your stay! I really reccomand this place it's a very good value for money!

AustraliaOur room wasn't exactly sparkling, no attention to detail here. Most kitchen ware was worn out and dirty, a front glass door that gave you a workout to open & close, broken shower head which management fixed the following day a lot of ant's nests inside the unit and on veranda, the BBQ was filthy and unusable. The towels are not washed properly and had a stinking foul smell after the 1st time of being used. OH I just loved the 2 teaspoons of old milk powder supplied that congealed to glug for your morning coffee. This resort has no undercover sitting area for shelter (yes it rains in the tropics) so if your flight does not line up with a 12 noon check in and 10am check out you're on your own. We arrived at 6am at airport was finally picked up by host about 9.30 we were then asked to leave the property and come back at 12 noon for check-in. Departure was the same check out at 10am with flights at 4.40pm it was raining and told to leave property until transfer time. Didn't find the hosts very welcoming or organized, regarding check in, check out and transfers back to airport. If these things wouldn't bother you, you will love it here and quite cost effective compared to other resorts in Aitutaki.
Set on a lovely little beach on a small channel overlooking Aitutaki private resort, swim right out the front door, unlimited use of kayaks. Quite area, had new beach loungers. We stayed in unit 1 it had a new comfy bed with clean bedding, aircon also worked well. They also offer car and scooter hire on site. A few cafes close by. Breakfast at Koru Cafe was good. The boat shed for a drink was ok but wouldn't eat there again. Excellent food, drinks and the best hospitality next door at the Aitutaki Village resort, they made us feel so welcome and booked lagoon cruise for us. Gave us milk .. The hosts and staff absolutely outstanding and friendly. This resort is undergoing renovations however don't be deterred by this, still the best in the area by far. This area is far away from the rest of the island you need to hire a car or bike to get supplies or sightseeing

AustraliaIt was disgustingly dirty. There were piles of dust sitting in the mug, bowl, plates, wardrobe, and on the window blinds and fly screens... even after I'd spent an hour cleaning this tiny room, I was coughing while trying to sleep. Flyscreen also broken off from window. There was a squashed dead cockroach in the bedsheets. Toilet seat dirty, broken and disconnected from toilet bowl. Pedestal fan old and making extremely loud grating noise. Owner tightened a screw, but it was still noisy and precariously working. When I suggested swapping it for a fan from one of the vacant rooms he said "there's nothing wrong with that fan" and acted like he'd done me the greatest favour...the opposite of customer service. Not a good feeling, I would have left but for the waste of time when I only had 1 day, so I cleaned it myself and enjoyed the island, but I would not want to support this careless owner nor subject myself to disgusting, unhygienic accommodation again. (Previous reviews that this place was clean might be due to a "hard working" employee the owner mentioned, who is no longer there).
Loved the location, the outdoors, and use of kayaks.

United StatesMake sure you get the travelers insurance (I thought I did but was wrong). Our flight to Aitutaki was delayed a day due to weather and we still had to pay for the night we were not there :( The staff was not available very often to ask questions or use their kayaks. There are no stores nearby so you have to rent a car or scooter to get supplies. The rooms were very basic, ours were not facing the lagoon.
The property is in a beautiful location, right on the lagoon. There are a couple of delicious restaurants and a bakery within walking distance. We were able to rent a car for $80 a day to explore the island (and there are motorbikes for rental as well)

New ZealandThere was no milk for having a cup of tea and coffee. The milk powder provided was spoilt and we had the hassle of going out to the shops to buy our milk. We were told off for keeping the air conditioning and fan on when we were not in the room which made our stay very uncomfortable which resulted in us spending our time elsewhere. We are in the middle of summer and not having the comforts of an air conditioning is a big No No due to health issues. Had we known about this condition we would have never booked this place. Even if we had to go out for a short while we could not keep the AC on and disliked the atmosphere of returning to a hot as room which would take time to cool. This was not advertised in the property policies. Unprofessionally dressed man at Reception without a shirt. In the property description it is advertised as free pick up and drop off airport transfers but we were charged $20 per couple. Advertising is misleading.
The view to the lagoon was beautiful

SwitzerlandBugs. Inability to make an espresso with my small Italian coffeepot-no hot plate. Steve made me a coffee on a day when no restaurants were open. Bubbles Below had no diving possibilities for three weeks-no divers. Steve tried to get BB inspired to go out. I found it exhausting to have to beg.
Excellent location of barely discovered Aitutaki. Ora Kiana day trip snorkeling was excellent. Larger vessels do not have the maneuverability around the coral. Restaurants were all excellent. Day car rental was ok. private island resort had nice products to buy and upscale meals.

New ZealandMaintenance was poor, low quality appliances and everything seemed to be done as cheaply as possible. Scooters not serviced, as brakes hardly working. The host made us feel as if everything was too much trouble. There was no support upon arriving and a lack of information about activities in the community. On asking if they would replenish the shampoo, we were told repeatedly that they didn’t usually supply it, but had ordered it by mistake. This made us feel like we didn’t then want to ask to have tea or coffee replenished, and like a nuisance that we were staying there. As a hotel owner myself, I found there was a complete lack of service, which is very frustrating, as a guest, paying to stay there. We had spoken to others staying on the island and their experiences were completely different to ours
A nice location and setup around the pool.

New ZealandKnowledge of the water quality at the place and surrounding restaurants. We had bad stomachs most of the time even after being advised to boil the water. We drink rain water in NZ but use UVA filter to make it safe to drink. This should have been for the price we paid. The room could have been better equipped for self catering as well. For instance stovetop was mentioned which did not exist.
Pick up. Staff. Location & beach. Cleanliness of room.

New ZealandThe 'swimming' pool was green when I arrived and it was green when I left. Only then after 5 days was anyone seen to be trying to do anything to remedy it. Unusable. I rented a motorcycle for 24 hours on my first day and was surprised the tank was just half full. "Don't worry just fill to half when you are finished or if you can't get petrol I will do tomorrow" It was Sunday. I am familiar with semiautomatic motorcycles but not this brand so was unsure of the tank size so I took the staff members advice. By 11am the tank was in the red and I was looking for somewhere to fill up. No go. It's Sunday. I had no alternative than to go back to the hotel, noone there, and park the bike up for the remaining 21 hours of my hire. When I reported the situation to the staff member in the morning there was no empathy, no offer of a refund, no offer to complete the rental or even 6 hours now that fuel was available. "Half tank lasts me two and a half days". So it must have been my fault. Unhelpful.
Basic comfortable clean room met all the basics
