We travelled the ring road around Iceland during May 2024 and this was our favourite hotel. We stayed 3 nights which is perfect for exploring the area. Close to Forest Lagoon, great for day trips to Húsavik, Dettifoss, Myvatn, etc. Lovely large, clean room with amazing views.

Bright, cozy rooms with comfy beds, amazing water pressure in the shower. The finishes are starting to show wear but the place is clean and otherwise modern so no complants. Excellent breakfast.

Okay....I always read any negative reviews for hotels we book in order to get an overall view, & so many negative reviews are based on one-off experiences that may be unlikely to occur with anyone else....& such might be our case. So take this review with that in mind. First....the hotel is outside of Akureyri, but if you're looking at this you already know that. And it's less than ten minutes to drive, so it's fine. But the location is picturesque & very quiet, which was fantastic. Now...we stayed here in the 'off-season' so there was no staff there when we arrived & we couldn't find that they'd emailed us a PIN to enter the property (which may be the fault of the Bookings site rather than the hotel, we don't know). So it took a phone call to enter the property...& because it was the off-season (& as Australians we didn't really think this part through) the bar wasn't open for operation, & I was REALLY looking forward to having a beer whist gazing out at the amazing landscape. Sadly, that didn't happen...but that's not really the hotel's fault, just something to be aware of. Then we needed a PIN for our room, which also wasn't supplied in advance, so we had to call the proprietors & the girl on the phone wasn't totally sure how to use the room's PIN pad, so it took a bit of time to get into our room. And then our room was, surprisingly, very hot. Too hot, far too hot to sleep, believe it or not. I even went around the unoccupied bar area & turned down all the heating in an attempt to cool things down (the heater in our room wasn't on) but it didn't seem to have any affect. We called the proprietors again (no staff were onsite at all) & they were admittedly very helpful & apologetic. The manager (I think...?) came out personally to help us & he was very friendly, doing what he could for us.

Great parking availability and location. Close to excellent restaurants and bars (like R5). Very cool decor and facilities, which were clean and comfy. The staff very very friendly and the breakfast was a great way to start the day.

Location was excellent with great views across the fjord. Able to walk down to the fjord shoreline from the hotel. The viewing tower also provided great views of the surrounding area. (Weather was good). Facilities for recreation were good. Food choice at breakfast was good. WiFi signal was good.
This hotel is on Akureyri’s main street, Hafnarstraeti, less than 2 km from Akureyri Airport. It offers en-suite guest rooms, free parking and views of the Eyjafjörður fjord. Husavík is 90 km away.
Nice place to stay while visiting sites in North Iceland.
Nice place to stay while visiting sites in North Iceland. We were able to see the Northern lights while there in early October, but our lodging was slightly out of the main city lights. Nice restaurants and easy to walk around. Botanical garden was a very nice place.

Great place for a day trip, or two.
Great place for a day trip, or two. Limited eating options (compared to Reykjavik). The lagoons (Forest lagoon / Myvatn) are worth a visit. There are of course also some nearby waterfalls. There's a fantastic petting zoo which is definitely not to be missed.

Nice small city . Surprisingly bug infested in late summer.
Nice small city . Surprisingly bug infested in late summer. Wonderful sights nearby. Very few free parking lots . Dettifoss was awe inspiring. There are steam venting sites worth visiting. There are crevasses separating American and European plates you can walk across caves and crevasses where Game of Thrones was filmed . Restaurant 23 is a great fish restaurant

Akureyri is a beautiful little town in N. Iceland.
Akureyri is a beautiful little town in N. Iceland. Super picturesque, at the base of a fjord. We booked a whale watching tour with Keli Sea Tours and saw humpback whales.
Everything is walkable and there are some great restaurants, especially Strikið, where I had the best piece of salmon I have ever eaten.
The botanical garden is free and beautiful. The kids loved the little Christmas house on the edge of town.
If you are driving the ring road, you must stop here!

We was looking for local food but no one. we could find only pizza, burger, fried chicken restaurant. And we was found food truck which owner is very rude, we not recommend there but anyway bakery at the corner was very good.
This lovely guesthouse is a gem. The rooms are clean, warm and cosy. But the best part of the stay is the lovely host Elisabeth. She offered to prepare us dinner, because the stay is away from any other restaurants. She allowed us access to the washer and drier, so we could clean and dry our bathing suits and towels. All the little handmade details, the selected decorations and dishes give this place a special soul. The breakfast was delicious also, with everything you could want. Would really recommend this stay.
Favourite hotel that I stayed in during my Iceland trip. Full length glass windows with views of mountains in the distance. 2 bedroom Suite – Master bedroom and smaller room with 2 single beds. Beds were so comfortable and quilt was fluffy and warm. Suite had private soaking tub overlooking snow capped mountains 😊
There was a kitchenette and barbeque grill – it would have been lovely to have a BBQ in the midst of this beautiful and tranquil surroundings. Hotel had a good buffet breakfast spread.
The location was walking distance to many shops and restaurants. The view from our room was the apartment building across the way plus a mini park with a slide- was fun if you like to people-watch. The bar/restaurant downstairs served a great breakfast with homemade eggs, bacon (was a bit too salty though!), melons/fruit, cereal, continental items, and many juices to choose from (plus coffee, etc.). Room had a tv, water kettle, and small refrigerator. There was a small kitchenette to use on our floor too!
- Location was perfect - managed to catch the northern lights. just on the outskirts of Akureyri, but no light pollution/noise
- The barman was exceptional. Answered any and all questions we had (even not about the hotel, about forecasts etc)
- Modern rooms (Netflix on the tv etc)
- Excellent breakfast buffet
- Free hot chocolates, tea, coffee on tap in the main area (open til 10, nice to sit in and relax, too). ask for milk if you need it
- great WiFi
- mini fridge in the room
the larger room was very comfortable . THE ONLY issue we had was the noise from the bar and it's patrons until 4am! my son and daughter in laws room was on the 2nd floor and at thr front of the hotel. they got absolutely NO sleep the 2nights we were there. if you stay there pay the extra money for the larger rooms on the 3rdfloor. it was near some very good restaurants.
We loved our stay at Sveinbjarnargerdi: the room was spacious and clean; the breakfast buffet was tasty and divers; there was a beautiful view of the fjord form our room; the hotel is very close to Akureyri but in a very peaceful location; the owner was incredibly friendly. We would definitely recommend the place and stay there again.
The hotel is 3 min drive from the center and a bargain price to other places we stayed in. The staff was very accommodating after there was a mistake with the booking they even offered us free breakfast as a compensation. They have cottages however, we were in the hotel main building what was very clean.
This is an exceptional guesthouse, just outside Akureyri. The sharing bathrooms are clean and smell nice (the hot water in Iceland smells of sulfur, so this is quite a feat). And the breakfast was phenomenal. Akureyri, and this place, is a great base for exploring the northern parts of Iceland.
Location is great... a short walk to the town centre with lots of food. Windows overlook the water. Easy to spot from the main road. Breakfast is not included. Order directly from the restaurant. The waffles, skyr and salmon on toast were all delightful!
Beautiful hotel. Easy check in. Great location & easy parking. Wish we could’ve tried the restaurant & breakfast out but it was bank holiday. Not clear if the fridge drinks were included or not?
Need to fix the fan & mood lighting as it was flickering.
Comfortable beds, very good breakfast, very nice walking path to the shore, a lot of activities to do at the hotel, we tried: frisbee golf, table tennis, the hot tub, sightseeing tower.... Wonderful stay
Good place in the center of the city. All shops and restaurants - 5 minutes by walking. Rooms were clean, and it was very warm what is important in December. Breakfast is included but it is very basic.
I almost always stay at Icelandair hotel when I am in Akureyri so I like it really much. The rooms are really nice and comfy beds. The location is also good. Nice happy hour bar in the lobby.
The breakfast was not worth the price. I know this is a limited staff hotel but there could be more variety of food and coffee pods that work in the coffee machine in the dining are.
Conveniently located in the area full of shops and restaurants. Nice room, not very big but definitely ok for a short stay. Simple but good breakfast. Everything ok!
