The location was very difficult to find, we were travelling from Cuenca and the roads were completely blocked with landslides. We thought we were booking a place in Alausi, but it is located in Huigra.

Perfect stay on the way to Alausi. Very friendly owners. Both dinner and breakfast freshly prepared - it was just delicious.
Whole hotel area is wonderful, just some bungalows in beautiful garden, perfect place for evening relax.
They've got small shop - beer and some basic products are available.
I loved the restaurante in town. EL Mesón del Tren!
I loved the restaurante in town. EL Mesón del Tren! The owners Lorena & Diego were attentive, friendly, and spent time with us during dinner. Lorena cooked for us a great meal as we requested!
It's an old Spanish style restaurante that takes your breath away and the Food is incredible!
Alausi can be a bit of a maze to drive around. But the second day, we were pro's!!!

It's a nice little town with a nice spirit .
It's a nice little town with a nice spirit . Hiking is great along the nariz del diablo train route - great views. Here you can also see a lot of indigenous ecuatorian people, especially on sundays at the indigenous market. If you want to sleep make sure you pick the right hotel because dogs and roosters are really loud here late at the night and early in the morning and many hotels have no soundproofing at all.

Alausi is a very safe and small town. You can easily walk everywhere in the main town. There are ATMs and lots of restaurants. Two to three days is a good time to explore the town and take the train ride.

Authentic town with cobblestone streets, lots of small restaurants nestled in the mountains. Large indigenous population with artisans and local fare. We were there for the Devils Nose Train ride which did not disappoint. Lots of hiking options for mountain views. Breathtaking scenery.

Alausi is a very peaceful, friendly little town.
Alausi is a very peaceful, friendly little town. The focus is the old train parked in town, ready for its regular trips up to El Nariz del Diablo. The streets are all up and down, except for the main treelined boulevard. There are a number of beautifully painted murals around town. We enjoyed grilled meat from the street vendors, as well as a delicious meal in restaurant Tikal. Alausi is a worthwhile destination, even without going on the train.

I spent two nights in Aluasi-- including Sunday, which was "Market Day". It was very un-touristy! Most tourists come just for a day to take the train and leave! The atmosphere in the city is very authentic and exciting! Lots of cheap vegetable, fruit and bread (and other consumer goods) all around the city. The old market and new market are both interesting, and you get a real look at life in the city! The city is very walkable!
I was better then expected. Simple rooms but spacious. Breakfast was ok. Parking our car was super....inside the premises. The hotel was top central located. Just in the middle of the main street. The famous Nariz del Diablo train wasn't running but stille we had a good day in Alausi walking the streets and a part of the railroad. It was just a stop on our way south but liked it. No tourists and only local indigenas !
Room was clean and bed was good. Location is good too, although Alausí center is so small that every hostal"s location is good... staff was friendly and ok. Kitchen was good and you could make your own food there. However there wasn't some basic things like water heater and wine bottle opener. I had to get my bottle opened in cafe nearby.

Great place to stay while exploring Alausí. The owner Marco is awesome and wants to ensure that you have a great experience. The hike to Nariz del Diablo is a worthwhile experience.
This is the cleanest and most comfortable hostel I've stayed at in Ecuador. Highly recommend if you come to Alausí!
We loved Alausi! It’s a beautiful town and well worth a visit even without the train operating. The hotel staff are incredibly helpful and professional and served the best breakfast we’ve had yet at a hotel in Ecuador. We like places with character and this hotel has it. Highly recommended.
This is THE place to stay in Alausi! A hidden gem. 3 blocks up hill from the hubbub of the town’s main drag. Immaculately clean, tastefully designed euro modern, great views, wonderful staff….and their cafe across the quiet street is the nicest place to eat in town!
Nice, large rooms and the hotel is right in the middle of Alausi.
Staff is kind and helpful but some speak only Spanish so communication can be a bit challenging. However they are keen to assist and managed to arrange a transfer to the Nariz del Diablo viewpoint.
Charming, modern, tastefully designed rooms with nice wood and tile finishes. Very helpful staff. Quiet and comfortable. Hotel's cafe across the quiet street is the nicest, cleanest place to eat in Alausi. I will definitely stay here again upon visiting Alausi!
A very clean hotel and very friendly staff/family that run it.
Room was comfortable and clean. Relatively new and well thought out. The room had great storage space!
Good location in town and easy to get around.
Hostel and rooms has been clean and well maintained; modern bathrooms; comfortable mattresses;
the City Alausi itself. It's really a nice and quiet place and definitly worth it to spend a few days.
10 minutes walk to the center of Alausi!
Awesome spot and unique views of the surrounding Andeans mountains!
Staff was super helpful!
Beautiful short hike around the farm!
Great place!
Super clean, super friendly and helpful staff, large room, fresh towels daily, and the best breakfast I've had in Ecuador. Thank you Marco for making our time in Alausí so great!!
A very clean and hotel with an excellent view. There is secure and everything is within easy walking distance. My room was comfortable with good hot water.
