Set on slopes by Lake Geneva, Lausanne is a laidback and liveable city. The views of the lake and dramatic peaks of the Alps are simply stunning, especially from Sauvabelin Tower in the northern woods.
Surrounded by vineyards, this is an outdoor lifestyle city great for sports including sailing, cycling and hiking. In fact, many international sporting governing bodies and the International Olympic Committee are based here. There is also an excellent Olympic Museum. In winter, Lausanne skiing options include the Jura Mountains to the north-west, and the Valais canton south-west of the lake.
By the lake (Lac Léman in French) is the Ouchy port area, home to many of the Lausanne hotels and restaurants. To the north is the Flon district, known for its lively nightlife popular with students.
The cobbled Old Town – the Cité – is a Swiss Heritage Site on a hill at the city’s highest point. It houses the castle and Lausanne Museum, both watched over by the multi-spired Notre-Dame cathedral. At the foot of the hill are 3 squares with markets, one of which – Place Riponne – is on the Metro.
This is the world’s smallest city with a Metro, an indicator of the wonderfully efficient Swiss transport system, meaning that Geneva Airport (the closest to Lausanne) is easily reachable.

We really enjoyed visiting the old town starting from the Cathedral, which although its undergoing restoration you can still go inside. The walk from the cobbled streets outside the Cathedral down to the train station is worth it, but you'll need comfy shoes to navigate the steep descent to Lausanne Station. The lakeside is a must see including the Olympic museum.

Try to avoid staying over on Sunday.
Try to avoid staying over on Sunday. All the shops are closed after 6 pm to 6.30 pm from Monday to Saturday and close on Sunday. So we feel wasted 1 day on Lausanne as it is Sunday. We only can walk around visit Churches and window shops on Sunday.

Lausanne is a fantastic city.
Lausanne is a fantastic city. The lake is simply stunning and if you are a tourist I think staying by the lake is possibly better than being in the city as it is so beautiful and changes all the time. The city has some nice upmarket shops and some lovely restaurants. There is a great metro service to get you up and down the hill and most hotels give you a free pass for this. There are lots of young people in Lausanne and all the restaurants and bars are very busy. We visited Montreux by train and Gruyeres by bus and Evian les Bains across the lake by boat.

I traveled to other places in France a Switzerland.
I traveled to other places in France a Switzerland. The train station is just 3 stops away from the hotel. The hotel is just above the metro station. When you arrive using the metro, you must take the elevator to floor E1. The hotel is just in front of the elevators to the left. Very well located! In Lausanne, we enjoyed the lake walk, the Olympic museum, the Place du Palau, the wood stairs. Just walking the city is relaxing. The cafes, the restaurants and shops are first class. We stayed 12 days and 11 nights. We wanted to stay longer. We love Switzerland ❤️

We used Lausanne as a base to explore around the East Lake, something it is well suited for due to the good rail service and the easy access to boats at Ouchy. We didn't explore all of Lausanne by any means but the area from the studio towards the castle and the walk down to Ouchy were very pleasant. Lausanne is very hilly so use of the metro (M2 for us) was almost essential.

Lausanne was a very nice place for my first time alone.
Lausanne was a very nice place for my first time alone. The architecture is amazing. I really liked hearing the bell it was quite nice; it felt like going back in time. The food there was amazing and everyone is very helpful. So definitely go there for a vacation.
It’s not as bad as I was expecting after reading some of the reviews, so in a sense we were “pleasantly surprised”, but it’s definitely overpriced for what you get (even for Switzerland)!
Positive points:
+ the bed is comfortable
+ the temperature is nice and cosy
+ reception staff is friendly
+ location is perfect, the hotel is in a very central neighbourhood but the street is quiet
+ you get free transportation everywhere in Lausanne (bus, metro..) and discounts in museums, although I think every hotel in Lausanne offers this.
Hotel Bellerive is an exceptional place to stay. Location is perfect.. 20min walk or 10mins by bus (the transport day pass given by the hotel was very useful).. rooms were clean and a good size, the nights stay was quiet (although we were the ones with a crying baby 🙁)...my partner also took advantage of the steam room and sauna available. but most of all the staff were amazing! So friendly and helpful! Thank You Hotel Bellerive for a great stay in Lausanne. I would highly recommend the place!
I loved the style of this hotel, and the staff was really nice. We felt welcomed. Also, once arrived we had a bit of waiting time, and the staff offered us a drink 😁 Breakfast was amazing and the room had a nice style, furniture and accessories. I've been in other Marriott hotels, but I liked this more than others – it is more modern, uses concrete, wood, fabric and colors around the building.
I look forward to visiting Lausanne and this place again.
Hotel is out of the city but very practical. We went by car, parked in the underground garage (discounted price) and used the free subway card to ride into the city. Subway station is underneath the parking (P+R Vennes), and in about 20' we were at Lausanne-Ouchy.
Entrance to the Aquarium just opposite the hotel reception.
Staff was friendly, rooms were modern and clean, breakfast had a fair variety of choices.
Very friendly receptionist ladies, checking in and out went very smoothly.
Good price/quality ratio
The room is very nice and clean, OK size for Switzerland, it was nicely prepared with the baby cot as we were brining our one year old son.
The view to the lake is very nice, overlooking the promenade.
We managed to find street parking nearby, which was practical too.
The price was very affordable for the rooms with common bathrooms and toilets on the floor. Other than those shared amenities, this was an authentic hotel experience. The location is great, right in downtown Lausanne and very close to a metro station and other key downtown resources.
No surprise, no high expectations, this is a nice Ibis hotel, well located for my needs on this trip. Staff is friendly and flexible. I have a very uncomplicated check-in and check out.
Room was spacious enough for me to sleep and work. Bed comfortable and minimum amenities.
This hotel has a fantastic location on the lake at Ouchy so there was a beautiful view from the windows. Our room was very comfortable and we slept really well. Breakfast was nice. The staff was friendly. Very clean. Free pass for the metro is a bonus too.
Hotel is close to the lake, we came in Lausanne on a Sunday therefore everything was closed but we enjoyed spending the day by Geneva Lake. The room was spacious and clean as well. Staff are friendly and wished we could’ve stayed longer.
The hotel is nice enough, but very expensive for what you get. Almost €300 for a night without breakfast and a very average room - maybe it’s just because everything in Switzerland is expensive. nothing wrong, just feels more like €150.
HOTEL IS LOCATED IN center of the Lausanne
The staff spoke English really good all of them and really
Respected the consumers
Check in was quick and good same thing check out quick.
It's really clean and nice rooms
Shower is the best
Good breakfasts. Nice staff. Location perfect. Opposite to railway station, good connections with Geneva airport. Very close to metro station. The price for the hotel includes also the ticket for metro/bus/train through Lausanne.
Location is perfect. Good relationship quality price, considering that hotels in Lausanne are expensive. Very clean. Kind staff, who are the waiters of the downstairs restaurant. Nice pedestrian area.
