Dan Stam Hotel, hotel in Arusha

Located in Arusha, 7.2 miles from Uhuru monument, Dan Stam Hotel has accommodations with a garden, free private parking, a shared lounge and a bar.

The communication with the owner Yann before I arrived was so helpful. He exudes kindness and compassion. I did a last minute booking after my connecting flights were cancelled twice which resulted in spending a surprise day in Rwanda en route from South Africa. I arrived around 5am; no sleep for 72 hours. Yann allowed me to check in so early and at that obscene hour which I was incredibly grateful for. Thank you again, Yann. The place: you’re about a 25 minute drive from town (Arusha), located on a long dirt road. If you’re looking for peace, quiet, and tranquility, you will find it here. It’s a residential area on one side of the road (including Dan Stam), with rolling fields of green on the other as far as you can see of corn, black beans, and other produce. There are a couple schools on the same road. Locals sell their fruit and veg about a 10 minute walk from here: walk down the street toward the main road and make a left where you see a small yellow dwelling with a light blue gate— “Adela’s and Grandchildren Shop.” A bit down this road you will see people selling produce from blankets on the ground. Oh and fyi, there is no working ATM in the area so bring cash but I’d only carry a little with you. I’d also suggest using a crossbody bag. I felt safe here, but it is an impoverished area and foreigners appear to “have money.” So it’s best not to tempt potential thieves to snatch your bag which does happen on occasion. The rooms are spotless, spacious, and with hot showers that don’t run out. They do a beautiful, generous breakfast. The fresh squeezed passion fruit juice was a highlight. The prices for dinner are very reasonable; about the same as in town. You must try the Mtori soup (traditional Tanzanian banana stew). Velvety creamy, rich, and filling. Mmm. And with a side of Mchicha. 😉 Keep in mind friends, if you choose to pay for meals at the hotel with a credit card you will be charged a 5% additional fee.

Jonathan at the front desk was exceptionally helpful. Happy and the other staff were so friendly and kind. The airport shuttle is very convenient too. The rooms are nice and are a great value. the grounds were beautiful and had a pool and a nice playground for the little ones to play at. The restaurant has good food, and the free breakfast was great...they even made us "to-go" box breakfasts for our 4:30 am shuttle departure to the airport!

I attended a conference at the AICC and for convenience I ate my dinner at the Mount Meru Hotel. I enjoyed the safari to Tarangire Park and had a lovely goat and lamb BBQ at the local Kwa Mrombo (a street full of BBQ goat meat in Arusha).

Arusha is not a pleasant place, on the very dirty crowded streets there is non stop people grabbing and talking to you all wanting money, we had one person tell us about his mother in the hospital and wanted us to pay her bills. Arusha is a means to a safari and that is it.

    Arusha is a busy city.

Arusha is a busy city. I have visited old German Boma which was converted into Natural History Museum. Seen also Arusha Declaration Monument and Clocktower which they claim it’s located in the middle of Africa or let say in the middle between Cairo and Cape Town. They have some supermarkets like Shoppers Supermarket or AIM Mall on the way to Arusha Airport. East African Community HQ and Heritage Museum.

A typical African city, colorful with open local markets and malls, safe to walk around and very friendly people. Ideal location to start your safari because most safari organisers start safaris from there. I’ll definitely visit Arusha again.

    Great city to stay in.

Great city to stay in. Definitely the safari hub; at least four major safari destinations (Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Serengeti and Ngorongoro crater) within a day's drive. Lots of great (if sometimes challenging) hiking to be done in the foothills of Mount Meru and the Kilimanjaro (or climb the mountains if you feel like it). Easy access through Arusha (domestic) or Kilimanjaro (international) airports. Taxis are cheap, but make sure you agree on a price beforehand,

The rooms were spacious. The lounge area was perfect for reading and eating dinner even. The pool and garden area are lovely and spent an enjoyable afternoon relaxing around the pool area. The hotel is quiet and better than staying in the centre of Arusha where it can be quite noisy. The walk to the town Clocktower is about 20 minutes along a dusty, busy road, but definitely doable and nice not to have to rely on taxis. The staff were always ready to help. Never mind those fancy pricey hotels - the Tulia is just as good for less money.

Very good location off of Old Moshi Road at then intersection with the bypass. Quiet neighborhood. Best reached by car, but if you don’t have a vehicle, the security guard, Aymarni, is excellent!! He will run out to pick you up beers, eggs, sausages, whatever you need. The hot water is super hot and the beds are comfortable. Wifi is exceptional. Swiss standards, truly! I really enjoy USA River. Excellent location between Arusha, Kili Airport, and Moshi. Extra bonus: You have an excellent view of Mt Meru from the backyard.

It is a pleasure to stay here... An oasis of rest is the bustling area of Arusha... The luxury bungalows in the middle of the coffee-plantage and beautiful nature are stunning... The food in both the bistrot and the restaurant are great... and we were absolutely charmed by the social project Shanga.org that is hosted on the property, where disabled Tanzanians are working in creative sustainable jobs that are implemented in the hotel, for example all glasses are handblown bij Shanga! Big respect for the owners to implement this!

Great location, beautiful gardens, friendly staff (Sophia was particularly lovely, as was the friendly cleaner and the smart wait staff) world class Indian food - I eat a lot of Indian and this was definitely up there with the best!, and big rooms with comfy beds. Okay, it’s kinda like going back in time and the bathrooms are a little run down but it’s clean and this is Tanzania after all - I can’t imagine that Reno’s are in the budget!
