Tavira is full of character and has an obvious love of its history and heritage. It offers the opportunity to have a beach holiday without it being forced upon you. Wander down all the back streets and find new places.
We mostly self-catered but there are many restaurants with differing cuisines. Take a punt - it will probably pay off. If you like octopus take a trip to Santa Luzia just 3km away. It is a charming fishing port and the octopus catching centre of Portugal

We've become familiar with Tavira after several visits over recent years. It is a lovely understated destination as a living, breathing 365 days a year town. Not at all touristy, though popular and busy, it's a great base for a sunshine and beach holiday as well as easy access to Spain and onwards. A wide spread of bars and restaurants gives plenty of choice for evening entertainment, and all within short walking distance.

Tavira is a little gem of a town. There are tons of things to see and explore. People are friendly, the food scene is beyond incredible and the city is completely walkable. If you're looking for a small, quite, charming town then Tavira is the place.

Tavira is a very relaxed and beautiful place to visit, the atmosphere was friendly and there were lots of restaurants for all budgets. We were there at the end of April and the temperature was ideal for us, in the low twenties. The beaches were easy to get to and huge so even in high season I think they would be fine. You are a short train ride from Faro and there are other lovely villages nearby to visit. Plenty of walks and bike tracks for the more active mostly all on the flat so not too energetic! This is a resort for couples and families rather than those looking for lively night life but for us that was a positive!

Tavira is definitely one of the most picturesque and unspoilt towns in the Algarve. So far, it has escaped the mass building of apartments that now plague other places. But, unless you have a car, I'd recommend staying in the centre! Local transport is not very convenient, though trains to other towns are good. There's lots going on, though perhaps more geared towards adults than youngsters! Plenty of restaurants and cafés and the Clube de Tavira is a good spot for some local jazz on a Thursday. Bear in mind it's not directly on the coast - you need to take ferries to the islands nearby, but that's fun if the weather's good. Not so much if it's wet and windy 🙄. Bike rental is another good option. Another plus is being so near Spain - a trip to Seville is only a couple of hours away! My tip - if you're not with a car, don't stay on the outskirts, unless you just want to be by the pool all day! It's a long and boring walk into town! Do visit the little olive producer just out of town. At time of my visit, nearly the whole town was undergoing roadworks which meant half the streets were closed to traffic and all the cobbles and paving were up, making for dusty and uneven surfaces. Just beware!

Nice town in a very concise area.
Nice town in a very concise area. Catching boat from the downtown dock is better value for the trip to visit the beautiful "Ilha de Tavira Beach" (Tavira Island Beach), worth spending time there. Don't drive into the city, either walk or catch a Uber. Too much traffic and the endless road construction works mess everything out. Look it up on Google before you head that way as there are many more activities you can enjoy.
The location was great for me.... quiet, but a nice 20mins walk to centre .... as I went in April , it wasn't too busy .... the pool was lovely.... unfortunately the cafe/bar was still being refurbished , but wasn't a problem ... supermarket close by.... I loved area as more the traditional Portugal ....
People very friendly and helpful .... my host helped me when issues arose, nothing was too much trouble .... can't wait to take my fiancé next time .....

Tavira House is a hidden gem in the picturesque town of Tavira. It is in a residential neighborhood yet very close to the riverfront, restaurants and sights. Our hostess Maria was engaging, helpful and friendly, in fact, she was the best hotelier we encountered on our 19 day trip to Portugal. Breakfast was delicious and abundant, so much more than a continental breakfast. It kept us full till dinner time.
Beautiful hotel in the center of Tavira. This place was just as nice as we expected. I booked it mainly because of the amazing rooftop pool area but actually the whole hotel was very stylish and new. The rooms are spacious and have very stylish decor. All in all the room was perfect and the rooftop a big bonus to spend some relaxing time in the afternoon.
I got the last room in the hotel in the worst location But it was still great and great value for money. The room was quiet and good size. It did have a balcony but faced the parking lot. Great rooftop restaurant with a great view of Tavira. Nice breakfast. Very nice front desk staff. I will stay here again when in Tavira.
The staff were friendly and incredibly helpful. The hotel decor was fresh and the room was a good size and spotlessly clean. Bed was big and comfortable. The breakfast was very tasty with a good selection. Not far from Tavira and nearby beaches by car. I was there for work and enjoyed my short stay.
Best accommodation in Tavira Portugal or anywhere…very cleaning and very very quiet, Comfortable bed, modern interior, good location close to bus and train station. has Netflix, fast internet. We enjoyed the upstairs terrace, with privacy and a cool breeze.
Highly recommended.
By far the nicest place we stayed in during our trip to Portugal. Clean and modern room with high ceilings, spacious bathroom, view of the plaza below. Lots of attention to detail, from the complimentary water bottle to the nice shower gel. Very good value for money too!
Very cozy and clean place. The location is very nice, extremely quiet and, at the same time, near the city center and main attractions. The staff was very friendly and helpful in providing guidance to visit the city. I definitely recommend for a get away in Portugal.
We loved the host... Good humor ..... Intelligent. Good wit.... A pleasure to talk with her during breakfast ..... And the BREAKFAST!!!! Out of this world!!!! And freshly squeezed orange juice..... Hard to find these days... even in Spain or Portugal.....
We were traveling from Spain to Portugal and stayed overnight here and were delighted! Such friendly service, a beautiful and relaxed place with very comfortable rooms and an excellent atmosphere place to unwind. Highly recommendable!!
We enjoyed getting the ferry to the island to enjoy the beautiful beaches. Breakfast was adequate with plenty of choices. Pool bar was great, good cocktails and snacks. Hotel in quiet location away from town.
The location is the best. Right on the river at the ferry landing to the island. The breakfast was the best of all the hotels we stayed in over the course of 16 days. Our room faced the river.
Lovely central location. Ferry for the island beach departs from
just outside the hotel and the old town and castle are only a short walk away . Good price and helpful reception staff.
my family loved staying at this quiet, clean boutique hotel. the rooms were very comfortable and clean. the staff was very friendly. the breakfast buffet was excellent.
Lovely breakfast! Best we had during our trip in Portugal. And the place is so quite and rustic! It's walkable to the centre but feels like the countryside.
We loved our stay here. The hotel is stylish and the attention to detail is second to none . The standard was high and the staff couldn’t do enough to help
Breakfast was nice, the upstairs lobby area was beautiful, covid safety standards were better than average for Portugal (checked our vaccination status)
