Monreale is a city built on the side of the mountain, so be prepared to walk up hills and stairs! The big attraction there is the Duomo in the main square which is just beautiful in the inside as the artwork is done in gold! You will have to pay an entrance fee, but it is worth it. The streets can be a bit of challenge to navigate as there are street vendors, cars, vespas, bicycles and pedestrians all trying maneuver through the narrow streets. Monreale gives you a beautiful view of Palermo and the ocean.

We spent only an afternoon here, but so glad that we included it on our trip. The cathedral was the most beautiful we had seen on our trip to Italy - we also visited ones in Palermo, Cefalu, and Catania. There were several interesting restaurants on side streets near the town center and we found a lovely ceramic/mosaic shop just off the central square. Views were amazing and it was an easy car ride to the airport for our departure the next day.

Although you can get in the cathedral free to see the mosaics, I would suggest you get the inclusive tickets (€12) to see the Cloister, the Cathedral, the Sanctuary and get up to the roof for a fantastic view of the Cloister and the town.

For us the cathedral was the centrepiece, why we were there, and the 12th century mosaics were stunning. We also enjoyed seeing the cathedral packed with young, local families, after hundreds of years still a centre for the local community

The Duomo both inside and outside is spectacular.
The Duomo both inside and outside is spectacular. The small town itself is very picturesque as well, with some great little restaurants (e.g. Pepers and pizzeria Antica de Guillermo opposite the main entrance to the Duomo) and beautiful views of Palermo in the distance. It's a good place to stay as you avoid the pain of driving in the busy centre of Palermo. You can leave the car in Monreale and take a 20-minute bus ride into the centre for €1,40 one way. You get the bus tickets from any tobacconist.

The cathedral is breath-taking and worth a trip unto itself, but Monreale is also an ideal staging point for trips into nearby Palermo. We had great food and sight-seeing within Monreale itself and took advantage of a good bus system to spend a day in Palermo. It was easy to do and we enjoyed everything we did here.
The location is great for those who have a car since LA Casa Del Nonno is right on the border of Palermo and Monreale which makes it super convenient to get to wherever you need to be. It might be a bit more difficult for those without private means of transportation.
The staff are a very nice and generous. They were very hospitable and easy to get in contact with for any questions or concerns. The only concern we had was just with the stove as we were unfamiliar with how to get it to work and they quickly came by and showed us.
Situated just steps from Monreale Cathedral, very clean and extremely comfortable bed. Paola gave us very clear information how to go to Palermo by bus, ( which we preferred instead of driving in a very busy city). She also gave us very good advice to park our car at Parcheggio Comunale, which is very close to the property. We really enjoyed our stay and if we come back in the future we will not hesitate to stay again here.
We loved the location and the view! The hosts were very pleasant and were happy to arrange a taxi for us into Palermo. It is only a 20-minute walk into Monreale. The walk is along a road and the sidewalk does not cover the entire distance. It was fine for our family, but I would recommend anyone with small children take advantage of a taxi instead of walking. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay here again.
Exceptionally clean and the room smelled so fresh and sweet! There is attention to detail and no dust or anything found even on shelves. The host was friendly and breakfast DELICIOUS!!! Best cappuccino I have had in awhile. Plus it was a family room so we had enough room for all of us and we were all together. Very close to Monreale Duomo. Very easy to get to with secured parking.
The property is modern, small but very well organised, new furniture, placed at a few minutes walking distance from the center, but out of the buzz. Beds are comfortable and both the kitchen and the bathroom are equipped with anything you need. The owner is extremely nice, available and ready to help with any need, but also with hints on Monreale and the surroundings.
We were a little lost and suddenly I see a man waving at me from the street. That’s how we met Paolo. The room, hospitality, vista was terrific. The location was directly across from the Monreale cathedral. Breakfast!! Imagine being on a terrific terrace overlooking the countryside with delectable treats and fruit. What a gem of a place, with a terrific host.
The owners were a wonderful couple who provided dining and sightseeing suggestions and guidance everyday. Ample parking was a plus. Walking distance to Monreale Duomo, cafes and restaurants. Ample delicious breakfast. Wonderfully decorated house and rooms with beautiful garden and terraces. Stay here if Monreale is your destination.
La casa Rossa is amazing. Beautiful space, cozy, with nice decorated details and fantastic view. A warm welcome from Emanuella, and a lot of recommentations for the city and and restaurants. The rooms are very clean, comfortable, and well equipped. It was the best stay we had in Sicily.
The big advantage was self-check-in, arrival possible at any time. Accommodation is in the historic center, just a few meters from the Monreale Cathedral. Amazing rooms, helpful landlady who advised us and booked a place in an excellent restaurant.
The owner was really nice and helpful. We got many tips for great restaurants around the area. The location is fantastic, it takes just few minutes to get to the centrum of Monreale.
This hotel is very well located in the centre of Monreale. We were met by the owner who showed us our room and helped us park the car in the hotel car park which is 5 minutes away.
The location, below the cathedral of Monreale. The hosts, Elvira and Santoro, were exceptional and attentive..
The breakfast was very good and complete and the site very clean.
The property is in Monreale and close to the Cathedral. The owner was a delight and breakfast included homemade preserves (Apricot & Strawberry) and other local treats.
