During this self-guided audio tour, you'll have the opportunity to drive around Lake Tahoe, visit scenic vistas and learn about the lake’s Gilded Age. You’ll stop by historic mansions, including Vikingsholm – a 1929 Scandinavian-style castle – and Thunderbird Lodge, a 1936 lakefront complex where millionaire George Whittell Jr. lived with his pet elephant.
As you make your way around the lake, you'll also encounter stunning parks, including Emerald Bay, and several hiking trails, such as Eagle Falls trailhead and Rubicon Trail. After booking the tour, you will receive the audio guide app and password from the tour provider. To access the audio guide, please download the app, enter the password and download the tour.
Once you've downloaded the app and the tour on your phone, you can use it any day and anytime. The tour never expires, so you can use it over multiple days and even reuse it. Previewing the tour before the date of travel is highly recommended.
To begin the tour, please go to the Tahoe South Visitor Center and launch the audio guide. Please note that once you've downloaded the tour, it will work offline without an active internet or cellular connection. Please make sure that you're using it on a GPS-enabled device.
It is recommended to purchase one tour for the entire vehicle. The app can be connected to car speakers through your phone.
