As summer approaches, LGBTQ+ communities and allies all over the world prepare to celebrate diversity, freedom, and love in all its forms during Pride Month. The U.S. holds a key place in the historical Gay Rights movement – and today, cities across the country host exciting programs of events to honor their unique histories.
We’ve compiled a list of the biggest Pride parades in the U.S., as well as LGBTQ+ friendly activities and a selection of Travel Proud hotels. There’s no place more fitting to kick off your Pride experience than New York. The LGBTQ+ rights movement and global Pride parades have their roots at 51 and 53 Christopher St in NYC’s Greenwich Village – the location of the Stonewall Inn.
The city’s parade began in 1970 to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. Since then, New York has become home to one of the biggest Pride parades in the world, attracting over two million people to join in the celebrations of freedom and love.
This year’s theme is “For All of Us” and centers on the continued importance of events like Pride and creating safe spaces where people can celebrate love in all forms.
The parade will start on 26th St and 5th Avenue in the Flatiron District, winding its way through Manhattan’s streets before culminating in a massive party in Greenwich.
While you’re in town, stop by the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center (SNMVC) at Stonewall’s original site – where you can learn more about the history of the community.

San Francisco is widely considered one of the world’s most welcoming cities – and its annual Pride parade is no exception. This year's theme is “Resistance in Action” – highlighting the importance of community solidarity, participation, and advocacy.
The parade will start on Embarcadero and Market Street working its way through to the Civic Center Plaza, where you can join in the celebrations afterward. Don’t worry if you miss the parade – San Francisco hosts enticing events throughout the whole of Pride Month, including film festivals and marches. Be sure not to miss the 25th anniversary of the Fresh Meat Festival – featuring a variety of LGBTQ+ performances.
For those wanting to explore after the celebrations, San Fran’s Castro is renowned for being a hub of LGBTQ+ culture and history. The neighborhood features iconic rainbow crossroads, a variety of bars, and restaurants and the Castro Theater – a landmark of LGBTQ+ movements and a symbol of liberation. Breeze through the Windy City

As Chicago, Illinois is the informal capital of the Midwest, expectations for Pride Month are high. The city has been a haven for LGBTQ+ inclusivity and activism for many years and hosted one of the world’s first Pride marches.
This year’s theme is “Free to Be Proud” and marks the 55th Pride parade since the first march in 1970 – a year after the events of Stonewall. Attendees are encouraged to express themselves and share what freedom means to them.
Follow the dazzling parade – known for being one of the largest Pride parades in the U.S. – as it winds its way from West Sheridan and Broadway, continuing south to Halsted. It then heads east along Belmont to Broadway and south to its endpoint at Diversey.
If you’ve already committed your June 28 to one of the numerous U.S. cities holding their parades the same day, consider visiting the Windy City a week earlier to attend the Pride festival on June 21–22. The street festival will host three stages, a beautiful lineup, drag acts, dance exhibitions, guest speakers, a pet parade, and dozens of food stalls showing off the city’s renowned culinary culture.

Boston occupies a notable spot in the U.S.’ LGBTQ+ history. The city is home to the renowned legal advocacy NPO, GLAD – a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the rights of the LGBTQ+ community. Massachusetts also became the first U.S. state to legalize same-sex marriage in 2004, 11 years before it became law nationwide.
The city is kicking off Pride Month celebrations with its annual parade – which starts at 11:00 am in Copley Square and will paint the streets in color as it winds down to Boston Common. The celebrations don’t end after the parade, with an all-ages concert and festival – featuring DJs and performers running from 12:00 pm–6:00 pm. If you’re not ready for the celebrations to end, the nearby City Hall Plaza hosts a block party where the dancing and entertainment continues.
While you're in the city you can also immerse yourself in the LGBTQ+ community in the neighborhoods of South End and Jamaica Plain, where you’ll find a variety of bars, lounges, and nightclubs to dance your heart out. Come daytime, trace the footsteps of Boston’s revolutionaries with a private Freedom Trail walking tour or go behind the scenes at one of the country's most treasured baseball stadiums – Fenway Park.

Next up on our list of the biggest Pride celebrations in the U.S., we have the largest Pride parade in Washington in none other than the Emerald City of Seattle. The pioneering 1974 event featured dress-up, a roller-skating sing-along, and a 200-strong street dance.
To honor the brave LGBTQ+ folk of years past, a significantly larger crowd of over 300,000 will take over Downtown this year – led by the first-ever NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) LGBTQ Chair, Deaunte Damper, as grand marshal.
This year’s parade will see activists, allies, drag queen royalty, and dancers light up the streets, starting in Downtown Seattle at 4th and Union and ending at 2nd and Denny Way.
Afterward, you can make your way to PrideFest at Seattle Center to continue the celebrations. This free event is held from 12:00 pm–8:00 pm and offers a variety of live entertainment across multiple stages, food, and drink stalls and family-friendly activities.
After the festivities, why not enjoy some downtime with a coffee tour that features neighborhoods like Capitol Hill, a hub for the community? Stride with Pride in LA

Los Angeles is another U.S. destination that has a strong LGBTQ+ history – with the Black Cat Tavern in Silver Lake being the site of the first documented LGBTQ+ civil rights demonstration. Following this, the city held the first permitted Pride parade in 1970, which saw over 1,000 attendees marching along Hollywood Boulevard.
Since then, LA has been known for hosting one of the biggest Pride parades in the U.S. attracting thousands of visitors per year. This year is the 56th annual LA Pride Parade and will see an array of colorful floats, marchers, bands, and dancers take to the streets and follow in the footsteps of their predecessors.
Starting at 11:00, this year's parade, themed “Rise with Pride!’”, will follow a route beginning and ending on Sunset Boulevard. It will travel along Highland, Hollywood Boulevard, and Cahuenga Boulevard.
After the parade, you can continue the celebrations at Pride Village – complete with live performances, bars, giveaways, food trucks, and stalls. For those wanting to dance into the night, Santa Monica Boulevard is the place to be – known for its vibrant LGBTQ+ nightlife scene featuring DJs, drag shows, and themed parties.

Starting in the 50s and 60s, the city’s Montrose neighborhood became a central location for the LGBTQ+ community, with a growing number of LGBTQ+ -friendly businesses establishing themselves there.
This year marks the 48th annual Pride parade, which will see Houston City Hall become a hub of Pride celebration from 11:00 am. There will be a variety of performances across various stages, DJ sets, drag acts, immersive experiences, foam parties, a Kids Zone, and a host of food and drink vendors.
Although the party doesn’t stop at City Hall, many local LGBTQ+ venues like Rich’s Houston and The Eagle Houston host after parties, where you can continue to dance the night away.
Once the celebrations have ended, delve deeper into the iconic Montrose neighborhood with a food tour, browse the vintage stores, or enjoy the good weather in Menil Park.

Like many other cities with a rich LGBTQ history, Denver had its own version of Stonewall in 1973. Following this, the city held its first Pride event in 1975, a small demonstration held in Cheesman Park. Over 50 years later, the event is now attended by more than 500,000 people.
This year marks the 52nd year for the city's festival and its parade, which will be held on 16th Street from Arapahoe to Broadway. The event starts with its iconic parade featuring colorful floats, performers, and allies marching down the street to celebrate love and resilience. Following the parade, you can enjoy live performances, drag shows, comedy acts, the Gayborhood Market, and food and drink stalls.
If you want to get involved in the festivities earlier, there’s a Pride 5K which takes place on 27 June at 9:00 am – with tickets ranging from $40–$50. Proceeds go toward programs and resources that support the LGBTQ+ community – tutus, glitter, and color are encouraged.
