Historic Hobart, with its convict past, was often referred to as Australia’s neglected backwater. How times have changed as its temperate climate, quiet lifestyle and fabulous food and markets make it a revitalising tourist destination along the Derwent River in Tasmania.
The city’s significant maritime history begins at Constitution Dock, situated along the waterfront and facing the beautiful harbour. Nearby Battery Point and affluent Sandy Bay feature Georgian and Victorian architecture and the first settler’s cottages in Australia’s 2nd oldest city.
Escape to a memorable view of Hobart town from the snow-covered Mount Wellington or get close up and personal in the city’s quaint streets. Hobart comes alive during the colourful Salamanca Market, held every Saturday morning, where you can bag a bargain or sample mouth-watering produce such as local wines and cheeses.
Cascade Brewery and Cadbury’s Chocolates have tours of these Tasmanian icons or visit Wrest Point Casino, a popular event and entertainment centre.
The annual Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race in December and Tulip Festival in the Royal Botanical Gardens swells the population in this small capital city. Make sure you check Booking.com ahead of time for your colonial cottage, cosy B&B or waterfront apartment.

Hobart is an incredible city for its size, jamb packed with incredible food, beautiful architecture, spectacular markets and harbour. It's a short drive to Huon Valley and the incredible apple orchards.
Mt Wellington is a spectacle and a great location for beautiful photos.
It's a city that should be on your list to visit.

Hobart is a nice city for around one day.
Hobart is a nice city for around one day. I was here cause I had a tour planned departing from Hobart. The city itself is not that exciting so one day is more than enough to see the city centre. Of course, if you want to visit the MONA museum or hike up Mt Wellington you need some more days. My tour guide also said that there are a lot of nice vineyards/wineries in the surrounding area so have a look for that if that is something you like!

I really enjoyed this city but I am more of a small town vibe. Bumi coffee's sambal chilli scrambled eggs was the highlight! Sadly did witness/experienced 3 incidences of potential racism towards Asians though...

Richmond was worth a look at the convict bridge and quirky shops. The old jail was interesting. Salmon ponds were good and lunch of pancakes there was delicious! Russell falls was very pretty. Needed more than a day to see all that Hobart has to offer.

Hobart was full of interesting buildings and places to visit, particularly Constitution Dock (Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race) and MONA. It was a good place to take day trips to Bruny Island or Port Arthur and other notable places. The Salamanca Markets is a must. I was surprised at how hilly it is.

MONA was an amazing experience.
MONA was an amazing experience. Great ferry ride, interesting and sometimes challenging exhibits and meal, wait staff and entertainment at Farro restaurant were incredible.
Bus trip to MT Wellington a must also especially on a beautiful day.
The walk from the Distillery via the Women's factory and beside the river back into town was beautiful.
absolutely beautiful hotel with very spacious room and exceptional layout. They paid attention to every detail of the room, used fritz hansen for chair and dyson lamp. they do not skimp ! Feels truly luxurious. And these days, space is truly a luxury rarely afforded for travelers. Very friendly check in staff and all staff in general. complimentary valet parking too. i wish we had more time to spend at this hotel. I sincerely hope the hotel would expand to other cities in the world. I would stay at any of their hotels in a heartbeat.
The room was large and comfy with a view over Princes Park. The bathroom was large including a spa bath and separate shower. All amenities were well placed and functional for a self contained apartment. I really enjoyed the fact that each apartment had it's own split system air con and and opening sliding door for fresh air. The location was excellent being within walking distance to the CBD, Salamanca Markets, Battery Point wharfs and beyond. The staff were lovely and always ready to assist or recommend places to go.
This apartment hotel was closely situated to the Hobart waterfront in walking distance to that, the many cafes, restaurants, bars and the CBD. The room was a good size with everything you need, including a kitchenette area, good sized comfy bed, washing machine and available parking (for $10 per night).
We were met at reception and the staff were very friendly and personable - always great at the start of a holiday.
The apartment was beautifully presented, had all the amenities we needed and the extra towels were great. It was warm and comfortable in the middle of winter. Fitted a family of 4 very easily. It was a relaxing 'home' to come back to after a day out with everyone having their own space to retreat to. Located within easy walking distance to Hobart CBD and waterfront. Our family would happily stay here again.
Phenomenal experience - rare to find service that has the ‘wow factor’ these days. Everything you would expect for a luxury hotel and more. To our delight, a highly recommended restaurant and bar were located right here in the hotel. The French bakery opposite was exquisite and a few steps away from the bustling Salamanca area. Car parking underneath so perfect for those heading in/out of Hobart.
Easy booking and confirmation.
It's very close to the city centre and beside an entrance to a beach for a beautiful walk in winter.
We are a family of 5 adults and 2 children and we find the 2 bedroom apartment spacious, very clean and with comfortable beds. The kitchen was well equipped and had everything that we needed.
Host is very nice and friendly. Thank you, Ted
Convenient location - close to shops and an easy walk to Salamanca market and Elizabeth street (main street). The apartment had everything except a broom to clean up after. I would definitely recommend Bay Hotels to couples or singles who are looking for a budget friendly accomodation in Hobart.
Ps. They have the most comfiest bed too 😊
The location of The Old Woolstore Apartment Hotel is perfect - right in Hobart and in walking distance to shops and Constitution Dock. Woolworths was 8 minutes away by foot too. Our apartment was well equipped with everything we needed, with a laundry. it was clean and comfortable. We would definitely stay here again.
It was new, clean and quiet, very contemporary with a cool vibe, good food and good service. Sagar greeted us enthusiastically and gave us a lot of information about the surrounding area and made reservations for wonderful restaurants on the waterfront. The hotel was in a great location. Highly recommend it!!
We loved staying in a historic hotel that has been renovated tastefully to match its heritage. The location was perfect to explore Hobart by foot, The staff were without exception friendly and helpful. The bar was lovely place to relax and have a drink and the pianist/singer on Saturday was a bonus.
Modern airy, well lit self contained apartment in great clean condition. Owners supplied absolutely everything you could ever need for your stay, even some complimentary chocolates. Good location in Hobart. Secure parking included. Many thanks.
Beautiful heritage building, refurbished common areas, clean, comfortable spacious hotel suits.
Well valued breakfast & free coffee in the dining room! All staff were very friendly and helpful, Highly recommend Rydges Hobart.
