A popular quiz question is: what’s the capital of Australia? If you answered Sydney or Melbourne then it’s time to discover the real answer – Canberra. With Parliament House at its core, Canberra fans out across both sides of Lake Burley Griffin to reveal a diverse mix of museums, restaurants and bars filled with curious tourists, political persons and public servants.
Canberra was created as a solution to Australia’s 2 largest cities squabbling over the right to become the national capital. The Limestone Plains region in New South Wales was chosen as the site for present day Canberra. It was a good choice for nature lovers as it is surrounded by bushland, mountain ranges and, more recently, wineries.
The National Gallery, National Museum and National Library of Australia highlight Canberra’s cultural riches. Other notable institutions to visit are the High Court of Australia and the National Film and Sound Archive that stockpiles a collection of Australia’s early radio, television and film history.
The military also plays a significant role here with many training facilities for the army such as the Australian Defence Force Academy. An unforgettable experience is attending the Anzac Day Dawn service at The Australian War Memorial.
Australia’s cultural capital with a political punch has many hotels, motels and apartments on Booking.com for that city trip, business jaunt or family holiday.

We have been to Canberra many times and enjoyed such things as the War Memorial, Questacon, old and new Parluament Houses, the National Gallery, the High Court and the National Museum.
Two places we visited this time were the National Arboretum and the Canberra Botanic Gardens. Both were excellent, especially the Arboretum where the bonsai collection and the Village Centre were outstanding.

We went to The National Arboretum in Canberra it was quite good it look like it is still new it's well plan and plenty of walks and trials. Canberra Central is there main shopping hub with lots of shops and restaurants well worth a look. The market over the weekends also great. We went to Enlighten bit like Vivid in Sydney was good, has it every year in March we were lucky to see it, the lights were beautifully lit up at night. The local people are friendly and helpful if you're lost. It's Meter parking you have to paid sometimes it can be hard to find parking around the streets. Weather nice and cool.

Lots of green spaces.
Lots of green spaces. More green space than road i would say.
It was a bit hard to go to places due to limited public transport options.
So It was lots of walking and ubers for me. I would not drive as the roads seemed a bit confusing.
I stayed near the parliament because had an appoitment at embassy otherwise would recommend staying in a more populated commercial area.
Visited:
War Memorial
Australian National Gallery
Parliament
Overall stay was good but I dont think I would have done much staying for more than 2 days.

Hadn't been to Canberra for 38 years.
Hadn't been to Canberra for 38 years. Had forgotten what it was like. Still like a big country town as you can see open hillside from the city.
Lots to see and do. Nice retaurants and pubs.
Only a 3 days visit as part of larger road trip with friends. Did the classics - new and old parliament house. National Gallery, Portrait Gallery. National Museuam. Strolled the parks and city. Got lucky with being in town on Multicultural Weekend. Lots of street action.
Plan to return in near future and see some more. Might not wait another 38 years.

We were fortunate to be in Canberra during the Food and Cultural Festival - by chance. Free trams and a great variety of food. We discovered - disabled parking is free everywhere. There is so much to see. We only visited the Sound and Film Archives, the War Memorial, and the National Museum of Australia on this visit.
Big comfy bed, excellent hot shower and the complimentary mini-bar all went down a real treat. Great block out curtains kept the room dark; one time we didn't even realise it was a sunny morning. The staff who came to make up our room and re-fill the mini-bar were very courteous and great to deal with (whereas the staff during check-in appeared distracted).
The hotel is in a very convenient location to Canberra's night-time venues with a short walk to restaurants or a bit further to the theatre and museum/gallery.
Excellent value for money. Surprisingly large and well appointed one bedroom apartment - we were expecting a hotel room but this was almost bigger than our apartment at home. Our stay was only a night but this would be a great longer term option, kitchenette even had an induction stove top. Clean. Comfy bed. Nice amenities in kitchen and shower. Modern fittings, smart lighting, good aircon, TVs in lounge area AND in bedroom. Compares very favourably to other places in Canberra at same price point.
I was VERY close to the bus stop from and to the airport.
I was close to shops (to buy food) and the War Memorial & Lake Burley Griffin (the reasons for my visit to Canberra).
The room had everything I needed, including coffee and extra toiletries. Also the heating made it extremely comfortable on the cold nights.
I could leave my case safely at the hotel before and after check-in & check-out times.
The staff were friendly, courteous and helpful.
3 bedroom apartment suitable for our needs. Family of 3 adults, 2 children and 1 infant. Location excellent with lots of good eating places and shops within walking distance. Also easy walk to lake & parliamentary circle attractions.
Appreciative that the bed configuration was set-up as per request, and non-standard.
TVs in 2 of the bedrooms appreciated although they were cheap and the sound very poor.
The hotel is centrally located on Northbourne Avenue, so it depends on what you intend to do when you are in Canberra. This is a basic hotel if you want somewhere to sleep and shower and to eat simply. It is probably suitable for families, and the hotel does have a bar, gym and pool. Our room was quiet, and we heard no traffic noise.
I stay at the Mecure Canberra regularly when visiting Govt clients nearby. I know what to expect here. While the property is rather tired and could do with a refurb, the rooms are spacious with room to work of an evening. Pricing can vary greatly as with all Canberra hotels depending on what is going that week so book early.
My stay at Village Hostels Canberra was fantastic. The dorms were clean and comfy, and the communal areas were welcoming. The location was convenient, and the price was right. Highly recommended for a hassle-free stay in the city.
Very nice hotel at a good price on this occasion. Just a 1 night visit, we didn't eat the hotel but the veggie menus looked great! Usually this hotel is booked out when we are in Canberra.
Such a great location for Canberra. Easy to get around walking to Canberra Centre for food, or simply catching public transport.
Stayed with friends and it was the perfect sized apartment
Full buffet breakfast being included in the price. The hotel bathrooms were very modern and great lighting. Overall a very lovely stay. Would recommend to others if visiting Canberra.
Great place to rest your head whilst staying in Canberra. Only stayed one night but the room and private bathroom were super clean and comfortable! Would 100% recommend
This is a hotel that stands apart from all others in Canberra. Location, heritage architecture, history and comfort are superior and carefully maintained.
I am a return guest, I visit Canberra frequently and the East Hotel is my choice for its location and the comfortable beds. The rooms are also very quiet.
