Caminha, a fortified border town located at the mouth of the river Minho, where several battles were fought between Portugal and Spain, now has much more friendly relations with its neighbor , it is a nice place to stay a few days to discover the area, unfortunately the ferry that connects the two banks of the river, is out of service.

I have been taking holidays in Caminha for over 30 years so it is one of my favourite spots. The town is small and everything is in walking distance, packed with enough restaurant choices to keep you satisfied and very well fed. Around it there's plenty interesting things to see and places to visit, also more restaurants with more excellent food to enjoy. The proximity with Spain is also a bonus.

Great little town with a lots of culture and tradition.
Great little town with a lots of culture and tradition. As a pilgrim, there were not so many places to stay, but I met some lovely people there. I loved walking along the river Minho, beautiful landscape, fascinating architecture. It's a quiet town that is located on the riverbank of Rio Minho and you can cross the river by ferry to Spain.

CAMINHA is a very attractive little town especially the old centre which has a lovely bustling square !
Many decent reasonably priced restaurants.
There are lovely clean beaches & super views across the River Minho to Spain !
Ideally located for walking on the beautiful unspoilt Serra da Arga or along the coastline.
Easy to nip across to Spain on the cheap ferry.
Good train service to other interesting places.
This is the one of the best albergues during my Camino de Santiago!! Thanks Vani! Everything is very nice, thoughtful, everything is done with care for the guests. Amazing atmosphere. And dinner was great (thanks Victor). And I even regretted that I would not stay here for another day. Almost in the center, 5 mins walking to the place of departure of boats to Spain. I'll be back hopefully
The hostess (Vani) was amazing. My wife had a mix-up with her luggage with the Camino Facil people (they didn't pick up her luggage, as planned). When Vani learned of the problem, she swung into action and arranged luggage transport immediately (late in the day) from Portugal to Spain, and at a nominal fee. She went above and beyond to be helpful to us.
It was in the middle of Caminha. Very easy to find and accessible.
The hostess was very helpful, warm, and kind. Communication was easy.
A special mention is the bed -- it was truly amazing! We traveled for 12 days in Spain and Portugal, and this was easily the best nights sleep I had the entire time. I wish I had such a bed at home.
Perfect host- positive, very professional and helpful. You have salt bath for tired feet, cooking supplies like soy sauce and garlic, even through I was afraid of staying in 20-bed room, it's designed in a way that gives you privacy, bathroom is sparkly clean- I recommend this place for everyone!!
The apartment is beautiful, bright, spacious, and inviting! It is along the Camino route, a block from the water, and close to cafes, bars, and restaurants. The owners are warm, welcoming, very responsive, and kind! The bedrooms are beautiful and the dining / living room spacious and comfy.
Needed a break from the camino, and this was perfect. Amazing spa and massage for my wife. And the food and wine was amazing. As a chef myself, I will steal the caramel fondant. The waiters maybe not so professional, but sweet and helpful. And great feedback from reception 👍
Susana and Andres welcomed us into their home like we were family! The Villa was spectacular with incredible period detail down to the light switches! The breakfast was amazing! One of the best accommodations on the Coastal Caminha!!!
Really nice and clean accomodation with spa. Just 5 minutes walk to boat to Spannish side. Restaurants were just in front of hotel. It was possible to have Breakfast sooner (7am) which was perfect for Pilgrims. Really recommend it.
Very inviting place, short walk to Center of town me to ferry across to Portugal.
Host was very accommodating with early check-in and easy to communicate with as we arrived.
Two beautiful modern bathrooms!
Had a restful stay.
We were just passing through and didn't have time to visit the spa but we hope to return. It was spacious, great location, beautiful room, great shower, amazing breakfast buffet.
