Great Location, everything was perfect. Very clean, a great place to stay before Camino. We were there earlier, message the receptionist, she shows up in 5 minutes, checked us in earlier so we got plenty time to enjoy SJPP. Thank you.

What a wonderful stay. right on the main street in St. Jean Pied de Port, a short block from the Pilgrim Office for the Camino Frances. Lovely, upbeat and attentive host; very comfy room, more than ample breakfast, part of which host bagged up for me to take; she also noted good restaurants and a bakery for provisions for my walk. An ideal start to the Camino! Catherine (sp?) so kindly offered to take my picture as I started out on my walk, a picture I now treasure.

The best stay of my camino so far. The ceremony with guided meditation and blessing for our journey was very special.

SJPDP is the traditional starting point for el Camino de Santiago's French route. You can feel all the positive energy and excitement from the Peregrinos at portas of their journey.
Although the first stage from SJPDP, crossing the Pyrenees to Spain, is challenging the journey and the satisfaction of completing it is multiple times more rewarding and will remain as a memorable experience!

There is surely more to do and see in Saint Jean-Pied-de-Port than we had time for. The Hotel Ramuntcho was perfect in every way. We were in town only for one night before beginning the Camino, and we would have been delighted to stay longer had time allowed.

We went to St Jean because it is the starting point of the French Camino. It is a charming place, lots of good places to stay and eat - though the prices in a cafe we stopped at are a lot higher than in nearby Spain! 5 Euros for a glass of wine compared with 1.5 Euros in Spain!

Well, we ate one of the restaurants where we could sit outside. Unfortunately I’ve forgotten the name of the restaurant. The food was good. The restaurant was quite busy. I gave the cashier €50 and was short changed €20. 🤨

Beautiful town at the start of the Camino frances.
Beautiful town at the start of the Camino frances. Not good for dairy and gluten allergy though and not every restaurant and bar proprietor is friendly. Hardly anything provided in any language other than french. Looking forward to crossing into Spain.

The host made a wonderful breakfast with a croissant, nice baguette bread and on the second day she even had homemade yoghurt.
The room had everything I needed including a hairdryer and a warm blanket and was super quiet. I also especially liked that if I closed the outside shudder it was completely dark in the room something I often miss in hotels.
The bed & breakfast is a little outside of the town, 1o min approx. I liked that and had no trouble going back and forth. I enjoyed that it was so quiet.
The hosts were fantastic.
They were very kind and organised the accommodation very well.
They provided lockers for boots and rucksacks- no rucksacks in the dormitory- which makes complete sense- things are tidy and nobody is taking up too much space.
The dormitory was not too crowded and the beds were comfortable.
Shower areas are clean and ample.
The sleeping area was quiet from 9.00-9.30.
The dormitory overlooks quite a busy place but it was quiet when I visited.
It's best. The staff and owner are very friendly and attentive! The bed is also on the first floor, and there are curtains so that each person can get enough rest. Clean and good service!
The train from Bayonne to Saint-Jean was delayed and cut off, but he recommended accommodations in Bayonne, and even found a windbreaker jacket that I had left at a wine bar in Saint-Jean and sent it to Donkey! thank you so much!
The hosts were charming and engaging. We immediately felt like we were friends visiting their home. After arriving from the USA, we were so grateful for the cozy and homey feel at Gite Bidean. Communal dinner is not to be missed. Pascal explanation of the first stage of the Camino Frances was well thought out and appreciated.
The hostelier was very friendly & welcoming on arrival. I was made to feel comfortable even though I was nervous about starting the Camino Frances the next day. Also, one of my Camino family members ended up being in that same room that night & now I've got a brother for life 💖
The albergue is beautiful, the host is great, there are shelves and outlets for each bed, the bathrooms are clean, breakfast was simple but nice, and you’re already 1km into your Camino!
