This is a must-see, very beautiful town. It is close to the Altamira Caves, although we decided not to visit them. We ate in a little restaurant at the square and the food was incredible and very cheap. We got to Santillana del Mar by car and it was easy to find, parking is available and overnight parking was free.

Santillana del Mar is a well preserved historic town in beautiful setting. Lovely to walk the cobbled streets and soak in the ambiance of the old town. The Catholic Church was really interesting as was local museum- downside was no English signage in either.
Barely 2km from town is the astounding Cave of Altamira and museum. They have protected these prehistoric caves by building a museum containing an accurate replica of the caves and artwork. That alongside a fascinating exhibition of the era concerned made for a compelling visit. In high season, best to get there early as there are limited numbers going through the museum. Lovely walking through area and viewing (from distance) original cave entrance. Beautifully maintained and very helpful staff. Information in Spanish & English.
Multitude of cafe/restaurants in old town with great food

A delightful medieval town beautifully preserved.
A delightful medieval town beautifully preserved. Didn’t have time to explore much as we were walking the Camino, but could appreciate it all. Well worth a visit with lots of interesting shops and restaurants.

This place is unique, as are each of the houses / places to stay - so much character! The church of Santa Juliana is a gem, and the 12th century cloister is amazing. The village is a lovely blend of culture and country - incredible architecture and free-range chickens / horses. Altogether delightful!

Santillana del Mar is a beautiful village with some lovely buildings but is leaning towards being overly touristy and much of what was on sale was repetitive and not great quality.
However, it has a superb ceramics shop - if you are interested in lovely pieces then do visit ARPA.Also a lovely little leather goods sho[ and a couple of decent jewellers .

Santillana del mar is a pretty well preserved medieval/...
Santillana del mar is a pretty well preserved medieval/baroque town. Half a day is enough to walk round it and visit the monasteries. Not surprisingly, it is a popular tourist stop. Avoid eating on the main road, but there is a little gem of a restaurant just opposite the tourist info office.
A few km from the town is the Costa Quebrada, a stretch of beautiful rugged oastline well worth walking along. Finding it through tge suburban sprawl of western Santander can be tricky (ask at the tourist office for more info), but it is worth it!

The hosteria has an excellent location, on the main road into town 3 minutes from where the bus drops you in the city, minutes from everything but not in the tourist-overloaded center. (Note: google maps has location wrong if searching by address, but correct if searching by name). It was spotlessly clean, quiet at night, had a well-appointed room with a refrigerator with bottles of water, toiletries in the bathroom. No breakfast but owner told me of a delicious buffet breakfast 2 minutes away at Hotel La Casona de Revolgo.
Good location on the road close to the old town of Santillana del Mar, about 10 minutes walking, where you can find restaurants or you can drive about 8 km to Suances beach with many places to eat. There is a private parking at the hotel. Room was good at the ground floor with terrace, very quiet at night. Good A/C and wifi. There is an outdoor pool but with no shades. The breakfast was good. The hotel is about 2 km from Altamira Caves Museum.
Perfectly located in the center of Santillana, one of the most beautiful medieval towns. The room was very clean, quiet, had a bathtub that I used and was in the most charming hotel. The staff was incredibly helpful and nice. One of the best places for a great price - and it offered a continental breakfast buffet
Great location close to the centre of the beautiful village of Santillana del Mar.
Plenty of off street safe parking.
Lovely looking property with country views to the village.
Run by very friendly and helpful people.
Room was clean and comfortable with a great shower.
Would definitely stay again.

provided a free tour of town and the and the guide Luis was excellent.
It’s just a very lovely traditional house in a small village in attractive countryside and less than 15 mins easy walk into the very beautiful Santillana Del Mar. The hostess and her family are very nice people. Excellent value.
Great value hotel and half board very reasonable. Roof on my car was broken and the receptionist arranged for a tarpaulin and close parking to keep the car dry and safe overnight. Excellent service thank you.
It was enjoyable to stay near the historic old town of Santillana del Mar after the tour bus and all the tourist had left. The room was quaint and comfortable. We especially enjoyed sitting on the balcony.
We had a great time at this resort-style hotel, a short walk to the old town center. Room was very convenient. Pool and outside area were great. Breakfast was delicious. Highly recommended!
For us it was a lovely stay, a very interesting experience. You can walk to Santillana del Mar from the camping site, no need to drive. If you want to visit the cave, better drive the car.
This is a very comfortable, pleasant B&B.
About a 10min walk out of Santillana Del Mar.
Everything about our room was wonderful and the hostess very nice as was the breakfast provided.
We were in Santillana Del Mar to visit the nearby caves. The location was fantastic, just a sort drive away. We were also close enough to walk to town. Totally perfect!!
